ewood111 Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Relegation squad indeed. And what usually happens when a club in 18th sells their top scorer and doesn't replace him? Depends if we reinvest the money. With it being so late in the window, I doubt we'll have much chance to do anything. If we can get one or two decent midfielders in, we'll be fine. If we take the money and do nothing, it'll be disastrous. A lot depends on whether any of the new strikers can step up and score some goals - only time will tell.
gumboots Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I hope he breaks both legs. I'm not bitter.have to admit that was my first nasty thought too.I immediately felt guilty as it's not something you want to happen to any pro sportsman, but still .....
Al Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I hope he breaks both legs. I'm not bitter. Sorry but I can't wish him any ill. He's been a model pro whilst he was here.
Amo Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 You don't if you're only looking to come in mid table. You do generally if you're looking to win promotion imo. I can name several promoted teams that didn't have a Rhodes in their side, Rev. Case in point, Hull City won automatic promotion in 12/13 with fewer goals than any other team in the top half. Their top scorer was Robert Koren on 10. The lesson we need to learn is that if you play as a unit, are organised defensively, and spread the goals across the squad, you don't need to have a prolific strike-force. Our squad is poor and we're going to be thin on numbers in the summer if we release the deadwood. What's the point of having a luxury striker like Rhodes when the rest of the team needs an overhaul? If Venky's can't put their hand in their pocket due to FFP or whatever, where's the money coming from? All great teams defend from the front. Rhodes was a tremendous goalscorer but nothing stuck with him up front. He didn't work the channels, he couldn't hold it up, he doesn't win headers, he doesn't harry defenders, he doesn't outpace anyone. The modern striker needs to do more than just stick it in the onion bag. Problem is the team looks pretty awful even with the new signings. Midfield is terrible, defence is better but still suspect, depth to the squad is depressing. Had Rhodes been sold at the end of the season is feel differently. Time to rebuild and all that. I agree that the timing isn't ideal, but why delay the inevitable? Lambert might be able to make some shrewd acquisitions ahead of schedule. Ironically, if we could find someone like Alan Judge and use the money to rebuild other key areas of the team, we would be stronger for selling Rhodes.
yoda Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 If he fails the medical, would he get back in the team
ABBEY Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I hope he breaks both legs. I'm not bitter.Wow.. Words for once fail me they really do
FGS5635 Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Wow.. Words for once fail me they really do It appears that for once your caps lock failed you also
FGS5635 Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I'd imagine we get more cash from an add on if boro go up. So lets hope he scores plenty
tomphil Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Totally agree that he can be a decent player on his day, but those days are far too rare. We desperately need a good central midfielder. ...It pains me to say it, but maybe we've been missing Lowe in CM this season? I'm no Lowe rater but not a hater either, good squad man. I'd be interested to see what he can do under Lamberto and it would now be safe in the knowledge that if he didn't do the business he'd be out, unlike previous times. Hanley has been in the team on merit this season so if Lowe earns it as well no probs.
pick32 Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Have they announced it yet? Think he will have to take a pay cut to go.
Bucksrover Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Have they announced it yet? Think he will have to take a pay cut to go.Thought downing went there on 50k+ a week?!Coming round to accepting Rhodes going now. A player who wants to leave, biggest wage on the books, chunk of cash coming in, chance to attack with pace. Just want the deal done quickly now. Trust Lambert to make changes work for us.
booth Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 At least a virus next week.. I dont know why, if they play him it'll be effectively ten men won't it?
bluefred Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 By all accounts today's game we seemed more balanced without him , so may be he better get signed for boro we have moved on . I can't remember the last time we won 0-3 away from home

I can't remember the last time we won 0-3 away from home Steady on it was Oxford. If they can reproduce that week in week out against championship opposition, fair enough but we ve already had one false dawn this season when we beat the nobbers. Not knocking it as the result was the exact opposite of what I was expecting.
ABBEY Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Careful Rev .. You can only post if you see the fairiesin boots in your garden

Hasta Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 On radio Lancs, Lambert said rovers needs rebuilding and that they should have sold Rhodes "a couple of years ago". Very evasive on whether he will get the funds but I got the feeling he had authorised the transfer judging by the interview.
mustard Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Certainly needed that win today to lift a bit of the doom and gloom over Rhodes leaving. Hope we can reinvest at least a sizeable chunk of the funds.
