You both sound very despondent that we won. You'll both turn into haters if you're not careful.

Nearly as disappointed as you when Rhodes used to score den. , You've always had a completely irrational dislike of Rhodes imo because Venky's, who you also hate, paid the princely sum of 8m for him. The argument used to centre about how we'd never get our money back for him, then when that proved to be a fallacy it moved on to his alleged lack of ability.

We'll see if he's as poor as you reckon he is for his new Club so no doubt this debate will crop up again from time to time.. :D

As for the current crop, if we can win every week who cares which X! are out on the pitch but forgive me for exercising a little caution on the basis of one game against League 2 opposition.

On radio Lancs, Lambert said rovers needs rebuilding and that they should have sold Rhodes "a couple of years ago". Very evasive on whether he will get the funds but I got the feeling he had authorised the transfer judging by the interview.

Evasive is good. If he has got guarantees, no point in letting potential selling clubs know.

I also think this decision was probably required when Hull made their bid. I think Bowyer wanted the money then, as well.

The reason is that the whole team needs rebuilding after years of scatter gun/agent driven/ disconnected purchases. The manager must have the final say on transfers and that hasn't happened much, since the infestation. Even Rhodes, himself, was purchased against the "manager's" wishes.

Oh and re Coco, even a broken clock is right twice a day!

Wow, no love lost there then. Has the move been confirmed? Could be awkward if it broke down for any reason and he had to come back..

The argument was never about how much we could sell him for Rev, so you're not going to pull anything back with that one. It was about having a fortune riding on the back of a poor footballer, when there was no extra money available. It was madness.

Lambert's comments...the keyword seems to be TEAM.

“Jordan has been excellent for Blackburn, but the money is too good to turn down.” Lambert said following Rovers’ FA Cup win over oxford.

“The investment will help, the club has got to rebuild. We need a stronger team to be able to get out of this league.”

I'd say the key word excellent

Not surprised by Lambert's comments at all.

Lambert has recognised that we need a stronger all round team.

With the money we are getting he will be able to bring 3 or 4 quality signings to improve the all round team

That would mean GB did not do as good a job as 1st thought then

Na the key word was Rovers. And that's worth remembering. And rovers won today. So Jordan Rhodes can trundle off to Middlesbrough if he likes. Now he's gone I'd rather talk about players like Watt who want to be here.

Edit - that said I suppose it's fair to suggest I really chose the wrong thread to read. I never was the brightest sandwich in the toolbox.

This is ultimately what it's about. We need a better overall team and the only way to be able to do that in the near future was to sacrifice Rhodes it seems, providing that money goes towards new players.

Really sorry to see him go but I understand the reasons why, both from Lamberts point of view, and Rhodes himself who is now at a point where he really needs to kick on and get to the premier league. If we can use this as a starting point to build a much stronger team then we might see him up there, or pass him on his way back down hehehehe

For me it's not about like or dislike. I don't know anything about the bloke as a person so why should I dislike him. When he came from Huddersfield I'd only seen what most of us had seen on TV. Scoring plenty of goals. When I first saw him in the flesh I was surprised to see he was pretty one paced and seemed to lack a physical presence when jostling with defenders. He only seemed to come to life near the goal and didn't seem to have much of a playing rapport with teammates.

I thought " I hope he's having an off day because we've chucked mega bucks his way ".

I liked his demeanour and without a doubt he's a class finisher but in todays football with Christmas tree formations and pressing from the front I'm afraid that's not enough.

Looking at players in recent times who have taken their scoring records into the prem, they all have one thing in common; pace. Adobe, Ighalo, Grabban, Vardy. Add in they all work extremely hard leads me to think Rhodes will struggle. Rudy had more of the tools to succeed in the prem and it's fair to say he's not exactly ripping up any trees.

The premier league rightly or wrongly is currently obsessed with pressing high up the pitch. This only works when everyone is running themselves into the ground, as soon as someone drops off you can break the press and pick through a team with ease. Rhodes cannot play like this as he doesn't have the natural level of athleticism to do so.

All the top teams play that way. Makes a lot of sense to me. Defenders aren't normally the best passers of the ball so put them under pressure in the danger areas and get the ball back near your opponents goal.

great to see the love of Rovers carrying on in this young generation of glory hunting. Let's hope he gets a new hero indeed !

Apologies if this has been discussed, I've only looked back 3 or 4 pages, but what's the clever money saying about the fee?

9 million seemed to be the story but Robbie Savage saying 13 million?

I'm slightly disappointed if it's 9, although I accept his recent form hasn't helped inflate the fee.

Whereas 13 million leaves me feeling like we have done good business as we have held on to him at least a season longer than we might have done.

Also JR's salary was causing some problems with the squad

Cheeky buggers, it's not like any of the others have done anything to justify their salary over the last few seasons.

It's a good job the rest of the 92-96 squad didn't get upset about Shearer's wage. And they WERE pulling their weight.

Gary Bowyer is on Talksport talking about Rhodes in a bit. Apparently.
