[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

Apologies if this has been discussed, I've only looked back 3 or 4 pages, but what's the clever money saying about the fee?

9 million seemed to be the story but Robbie Savage saying 13 million?

I'm slightly disappointed if it's 9, although I accept his recent form hasn't helped inflate the fee.

Whereas 13 million leaves me feeling like we have done good business as we have held on to him at least a season longer than we might have done.

Wasn't it 9 (guaranteed) + 2 (promotion) + 2 (performance related)?

Cheeky buggers, it's not like any of the others have done anything to justify their salary over the last few seasons.

It's a good job the rest of the 92-96 squad didn't get upset about Shearer's wage. And they WERE pulling their weight.

Gary Bowyer is on Talksport talking about Rhodes in a bit. Apparently.

I understand the point you are making Rev, but Shearer's salary wouldn't have been that out of kilter with those of many of his colleagues in the way that Rhodes' is. There will always be a highest paid player in any squad and Shearer probably was ours while he was here, but Rhodes is/was on much more than the next highest paid player at Ewood. That can't be healthy.

Remember my son being the same when we sold his favorite player Chris Price.

Lambert and the players have a big responsability to give that lad a new hero or two.

Anyone else not think this is totally crass, Daily Mail-type 'journalism'?. Call me a wooly liberal but that kid has no idea his genuine upset is being broadcast to countless strangers on the internet. For shame on his parents for thinking it's 'funny' too.

Yup, was going to post something similar myself. Exploiting your own kid for internet lulz.

Hardly journalism, just the social engineering networking era.

Welcome to 2016.

Well I've read every page though I must admit skimming the last few. I can't recall the last time Jordan Rhodes receiving the ball gave me any sense of anticipation or excitement.

He scores goals when others create chances for him but doesn't contribute much to the overall team performances.

Hopefully this means we will look like we have 11 on the pitch for 90 minutes. Hoofing the ball forward for it to bounce of Rhodes and back to the opposition has gone on for far, far too long.

Thing is, Paul, we've brought in the kind of players that would provide the kind of service he thrives on then sold him.

Talk about bait and switch!

Still, once the ink is dry, we move forward with those players still wearing the blue and white halves but let's not pretend Rhodes wasn't a brilliant player for this club.

That's fair. I don't get this one thing or the other polarisation. He is a brilliant finisher but limited in some respects from what I saw of him live. He was great for us but the time is right for Rhodes and, more importantly us, for him to move on.

I believe in Lambert and believe the transfer activity the Rhodes fee will allow will ultimately make us stronger.

I think the important point is we move forward. Rhodes was a good player for us in the early part of his time here but the last 12 months have been nothing more than average - which in our team is pretty good!!

I don't think brilliant is a word I'd use to describe JR, his all round game is too limited to earn that accolade. I'm going to be very interested to see how he performs at Boro - I think new club bounce will work for him, he had become stale st Ewood. If Boro are promoted his PL performances will be even more interesting

I think that's a harsh post. To call him average just because of one better than average half season is a poor do.

Still, it's all about opinions.
