jim mk2 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Problem for Rhodes is Lambert doesn't appear to want him and he could find himself on the bench from now on as Lambert reshapes the side. Jordan Rhodes' £11m move to Middlesbrough has fallen through. Fee was all agreed but understand deal collapsed over personal terms. #rovers Rhodes really is on a good screw at Ewood if Boro won't match it.

Guest Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Not sure how I feel about all this..was kinda set of him going and rebuilding..feeling concerned about how this affects the progression of the team. Also why feel sorry for him? He wanted out..he's very good at playing the nice lad. My thoughts, too. If he's reportedly saying we're a great club, why leave? If Rhodes doesn't leave in this window, Lambert will have a bit of a problem on his hands. I'm sure Lambert is no pushover, and he'll stamp whatever authority on the team he wants (and he already has). To keep Rhodes' value, I reckon Lambert will be reluctantly playing him so that he can obtain similar funds from his sale in summer. I liked what I heard about yesterday's performance, but if Rhodes is back, we may be back to revolving around one player again.
tomphil Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I wouldn't be surprised if this was Gibson's doing for the way in which Venky's have dealt with them in the past? Partly for sure although maybe they were hoping Rhodes would agree on a big pay cut once they'd got him to the table. Said it a thousand times but no Champ club will pay what he gets at Ewood, baring maybe a relegated one with parachute money to blow on a bid to get back up.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Rhodes will knuckle down and work. He won't sulk. Similar thing happened last year too. Did you read Lambert's comments after the match? Going to be difficult for Rhodes to "knuckle down and work" no matter what he says.
garnersfags Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Boro have released statement that following discussions, terms have not been agreed.
Guest Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Rhodes really is on a good screw at Ewood if Boro won't match it. Reports suggest he's on £40K p/w (plus whatever else). Credit to nicko and that dodgy FL72 website for actually being right first?
Hasta Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I'm surprised Boro can't afford him. After all, they bring 20,000 fans to Ewood every year so they must be a huge club.

I agree - but if he's been unable to agree terms then he has gone down significantly in my opinion. I could live with him going to Middlesbrough for footballing reasons - he would have a realistic shot at promotion and PL football with them. If he couldn't sacrifice a little bit of money to get that, then we know he's really in it for the money. Perhaps there's numerous things going on which caused the deal to collapse - guess we'll have to wait for more details to filter through.
Speedie Dived Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Could Rovers report Boro for their behaviour over this Rhodes bid??? For not wanting to pay an amount they considered excessive? That's funniest thing I read on here for a long time.
Stuart Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I think Gibson has panicked after seeing how we played at Oxford and how we changed the style without JRSurely there's a but more to player recruitment than that. Wonder what this issue is though?Fee agreed Medical complete Personal terms done (?) Tick all those boxes and somebody somewhere has reneged on a deal. Wonder if he doesn't have the £9m cash or doesn't want to spend it all now. Dirty trick if that's the case.
jim mk2 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Any link to Boro messageboard ? They must be in meltdown
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Why? His wages would pay the wages of two or maybe even three good loan players. Now that's gone to pay to probably keep someone on the bench.
Backroom Tom Posted January 31, 2016 Author Backroom Posted January 31, 2016 Could Rovers report Boro for their behaviour over this Rhodes bid??? You can imagine how that would go 'Boro are being mean to us please help'
Stuart Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 For not wanting to pay an amount they considered excessive? That's funniest thing I read on here for a long time. If they consider it excessive then they shouldn't have agreed it in the first place. Like chaddy, that's the behaviour I'd take issue with.

I posted earlier that I thought that may be the case, pretty sure that would be a deal breaker for the V's. Boro suggesting it is personal terms though, can't believe that though as they would have been sorted before medicals etc
Blue blood Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Odd situation not sure our hand hasn't been weakened in future dealings for Rhodes as now people known we're willing to sell. Happy he's staying as even if it were right for him to go - which I'm sceptical on - the timing was very wrong. Oh and I bet wages was the stumbling block.
Guest Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 "The club can confirm that we have held talks with Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes over the weekend but have failed to agree terms." That statement suggests it's nothing to do with the fee, but the player's wage demands.
arbitro Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Boro have released statement that following discussions, terms have not been agreed. I read that as personal terms not agreed but the fee has.
Stuart Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 £45k pwk I think it is.Agent getting greedy? Or citing the new Sky deal.Next season will probably see wages at the most obscene level ever.
Speedie Dived Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 If they consider it excessive then they shouldn't have agreed it in the first place. Like chaddy, that's the behaviour I'd take issue with. It appears it's added extras they were unaware about. Good luck going to the FA with that one.
yoda Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 You can imagine how that would go 'Boro are being mean to us please help' Anything is possible in Chaddy world, Vinjay will be blaming the Trust any minute now
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 It could still be back on tomorrow or tonight! That's not much good to us is it ?
