[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

Correct- I only hope we haven't got into FFP difficulty because we had pre-spent the Rhodes cash.

It was a Shebby deal

Have now seen the Oxford game and my reaction apart from delight at the win was at last a shape and performance in which Rhodes would have thrived- first one this season.

Little did I think I would log onto BRFCS and read all this!

Would be my worry as well given the timing of the Watt transfer, with the delays signing him I do wonder if it was only done under the assumption that the Rhodes deal was pretty much done. The rules do change in the summer considerably but until then I imagine we have to run a very tight ship to stay within the regulations.

And like you I think Rhodes would of thrived in a match like the Oxford game, so maybe if it falls through having the like of Jackson and Watt around Rhodes will be exactly what he needs.

I'm the Boro chairman. See a player who is desperate to leave and his club are equally keen to let go.

Deadline for the deal in the offing. I've got both the player and the other club in my pocket. I pull the plug and blame the player's agent thereby making it doubly difficult for him to return and the club to take him back.

Then, I play my best card. OK, we will take you but let's restructure the deal. Then at least you are out of there, can play next year in the Prem and the selling club get a return. I also by-the-by I save myself a few million squids.

What d'ya say, Jordan?

Now factor in Venkys.

Them vs Gibson is like the proverbial irresistible force meets immovable object.

Having been thoroughly professional with his comments yesterday, Lambert has let his emotions rule today. He's hung the player out to dry by confirming him wanting out so frequently. The only saving grace, ironically, is Rhodes' professionalism.

On another note, my lad was delighted when he heard the news this afternoon so not everyone will have the knives out.

Lambert told the truth. It's as simple as that. What a refreshing change at Blackburn Rovers.

But we all know that JR wants out. He came out with a statement last summer saying that he wanted to go to Boro.

PL is saying nothing that we don't already know. Don't think his comments change the situation.

Rhodes is the one who needs to build the bridges.

That statement is stupidity. Whatever people say, Rhodes is by far our best player and a makes our team much stronger.

Serious question...have you ever watched Rhodes play football?

Something like, Rhodes asked to leave, he failed to agree terms so we welcome him back.

Sorry? We're Blackburn Rovers mate. We've bought and sold several far better players than Rhodes. If he wants to go, as far as I'm concerned the answer is 'ta ra and don't come back!

And, even being there yesterday where Jackson did ok, next week we must start Rhodes and Watt.

No way!!! Walk away from our club seeking glory and more money and we welcome you back with open arms?

Haha amazing opinions in football aren't they!?

You have to wonder now whether players like Tom Laurence would have been persuaded to stay etc. if Rhodes was not on his way out/ players lined up to replace etc.

This will have HUGE knock on developments for the team etc. as i'm sure we will realise over the next few months.

I wonder who we might have seen at Ewood had this been signed sealed etc.?

I bet Lambert is not a happy chappy right now as i'm sure a lot of behind the scenes plans have now been scuppered.

Hands up those who wanted Laurence to stay. Sorry Mum you can't vote.

Anyone think we may end up loaning him out, if nobody else offers cash ?

Even to get some of his wages banked?

Me.

JR's agent, if you want my man to secure promotion, pay the price

Not a bad option now. Get a loan fee and his wages off the books and then sell him in the summer

The suggestion in Lambert's comments is that he can't rebuild the team until Rhodes is sold - even if true, is it necessary to make that public?

I've been on Team Lambert since he arrived, but IMO he should have held fire and waited until the deal was concluded before commenting.

Hopefully the deal is resurrected somehow, or another club makes a bid.

Agreed.

Never get so far into something you can't get yourself out of.

Been a bit of silly billy if he's boxed himself - and all the other parties - in there.

I'd have personally liked to have seen him replaced though!!!

Guess this isn't likely to happen now........

Whether people wanted him to stay/or not isn't really the issue. There may well have been a player lined up with Rhodes cash etc who we will never see grace Ewood....who knows???

Knock on effects.....

No point lying though is there?

If the truth of the situation is that he has (to some extent) said that he wants out for over 12months and has been given his wish BUT through greed burnt his bridges, then why would any self respecting person say otherwise? We've had too many people scared of giving opinions or downright talking bullpoop in our recent past. I much prefer the, "I am the boss and you created this awkward, time-wasting situation" approach.

IMO the whole thing stinks - surely Rhodes agent had been talking to Boro for some time now - to pull at the 11th hour seems very fishy to me.

Agreed, I think there's more to this than meets the eye. It doesn't make much sense for Rhodes or his agent to make ridiculous demands and cause the transfer to break down - who wins in that situation?

Either Boro were offering him less than he's on here, or Gibson has had a change of heart and decided the agreed deal wasn't worth it. I'd be surprised if Rhodes was demanding stupid amounts, considering how difficult it's been for him to leave here over the past couple of seasons and knowing the club wants and expects him to go. You'd have thought he'd be very open to a reasonable offer.

Players want out of clubs all the time. You may see it in the red tops but you don't read about it on club websites. It's called professional football because it's a job, there is no loyalty in football. Meanwhile, despite 'wanting out' Rhodes has got his head down every week.

Not when the loaning club realise he's not actually that good and his value plummets. Having had time to think about this I really think we need this deal to go through as I don't think we get this sort of cash again.

For a minute there I thought you were talking about Tom Lawrence, which couldn't have been right, as he'd have to be persuading us as to why we should keep him. :)

Can't wait to see who this Laurence is, though, sounds like a world beater!
