Stuart Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Lambert told the truth. It's as simple as that. What a refreshing change at Blackburn Rovers. The truth is no good to Rovers if we now only get half of 'the Rhodes money'. Sometimes keeping one's council is far better.Did you ever read Ferguson raging on United's website when he didn't get Shearer, or any other player (in or out)? No but you can bet there were smashed dinner sets all over the shop.

Veevs Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 You have to wonder now whether players like Tom Laurence would have been persuaded to stay etc. if Rhodes was not on his way out/ players lined up to replace etc. This will have HUGE knock on developments for the team etc. as i'm sure we will realise over the next few months. I wonder who we might have seen at Ewood had this been signed sealed etc.? I bet Lambert is not a happy chappy right now as i'm sure a lot of behind the scenes plans have now been scuppered. I think Tom was gone either way, with Jackson, Graham and Watt arriving. Yeah its sad in some ways we may not get to see who PL had lined up, I imagine allot of work had already been done setting up potential deals, but PL has been around long enough to have contingency plans and may like many of us feel the new additions already in will compliment Rhodes style of play.
Dean Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Absolutely gutted. I think our ability to push for promotion next season rests on selling him and fixing the midfield. Hoping that this doesn't push us back into an embargo. Probably means we'll struggle to turn Watt's loan into a permanent deal if he succeeds as well.
cop Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 “This is the third window now where he has wanted to go and we felt it was right to give him that opportunity." Basically reading between the lines, I think Lambert is saying... Someone, please, take him off our hands! We've been trying hard enough without advertising that fact to get the highest price. Blackburn can't drop him, he wants to play and he needs to be in the shop window. But at the same time, Lambert will be wanting to to gel his new team together. The only option really, assuming nothing will happen tomorrow, is an emergency loan with the option to buy at the end of the season or a pre-contract deal... ...but he'll only be able to go to a Championship club though - Boro might even suggest taking him on loan and part pay his wages while Rhoads' agent gets his act together... thats even better for them. Part of me wonders that the lifting of the embargo was to do with a Rhodes sale - and an agreement was made with that promise.

Of course Ferguson was upset. Openly and rightly said Jack Walker was responsible.
Pedro Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Majority I know in real life are gutted it's fallen through. We will have most certainly lost out on some players tomorrow. Very true. We'll get to find out in 12months time that someone worth millions and banging them in was on the verge of signing for next to nowt but it all fell through. We aren't a lucky team in the slightest. I have a massive dislike for volcanoes for what one did to us.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Players want out of clubs all the time. You may see it in the red tops but you don't read about it on club websites. It's called professional football because it's a job, there is no loyalty in football. Meanwhile, despite 'wanting out' Rhodes has got his head down every week. What do you expect Lambert to say? He's just said that Rhodes has wanted out for three windows. Which we all know. At no point has he criticised JR personally. The issue here is with JR. He's created the problem. PL is fully entitled to leave him out based on JR's determination to play elsewhere. Really don't know how to feel about this. Pleased that we have a decent goal scorer on the books but frustrated that PL won't be able to spend significant money on players that we clearly need.
Alex Rover Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 and anyway how come an agent (his) has so much power. JR has his head screwed on, if I wanted to push the deal through I'd have sacked him or at least told him to compromise and make it happen. Surely he wouldn't have been financially down I doubt, I understand they'd have met his wages but it was the add-ons they objected to.
Veevs Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Not a bad option now. Get a loan fee and his wages off the books and then sell him in the summer Bloomin horrific option by any standards, I don't like Russian Roulette, if he goes out and fails (can happen to any player) then we have really alienated him this time and reduced his value considerably.
VinjayV4 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Very true. I have a massive dislike for volcanoes for what one did to us. That volcano story is a myth (for sake of a good headline) all it did was prevent a meeting. Club wouldn't have paid the fee. If Rhodes is sold quickly in the summer for the same fee its pretty much a non issue.
Stuart Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Of course Ferguson was upset. Openly and rightly said Jack Walker was responsible. Oh. Have you got the link to the statement on United's club website?
Blueboy Downunder Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 what am i missing here ?? i have heard all over the media, twitter, facebook, tv and radio that personal terms between Jordan and boro where agreed upon yesterday. obviously i don't know what it actually was that has scuppered the deal and we can speculate as much as we want, just like i am gonna do now....IMO boro and steve gibson agreed to the personal terms yesterday but last night or this morning, boro have been doing there sums and calculated exactly what it will cost them going forward and at the last minute have suddenly got cold feet and called the deal off. no idea if this is the case. bearing in mind that boro are in a very healthy position in the league, there is still the prospect of them screwing up and not getting to the premier league which would make JR and the financial package a big white elephant.

Correct, Boro have cocked up on their homework, there is even a family connection which should have sorted it all out prior FFS
Andy Kennedys Hairdo Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Funny how this site is such a microcosm of the fan base. Most of the rest are so happy he's staying. Actually, that would be interesting to see. Obviously, the people on here are only able to voice their own opinions and anything they do post shouldn't be seen as representative of the fan base as a whole. Time for a poll ? Personally, I was devastated when Simon Barker moved to QPR but the club seems to have done pretty well without him despite my reservations at the time.

I wasn't expecting him to say anything officially. But you've summed up the problem we now have with your last paragraph. You are pleased that we have a decent goalscorer on the books but unless Lambert now swallows his pride (and loses face) we won't be playing him. Meanwhile we won't be getting any funds from a sale any time soon - not at the values currently talked about. I'm a huge fan of Lambert (and Rhodes) but he's cut off his nose to spite his face over this.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I have no problems with Rhodes staying when we are in a dubious league position...pair him up with Watt and let them get on with it! ATTACK!
VinjayV4 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Oh. Have you got the link to the statement on United's club website? I never visit their website and why would it still be on there? The quote is on here check August 11th, http://www.wsc.co.uk/the-archive/14-Diary/6728-august-1996 I guess there is a big question over whether Rhodes will play this Saturday.
philipl Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Well I am not getting my hopes up but I will be delighted if Jordan Rhodes is still a Rovers player on Wednesday morning. I understand his wages and the new players do not bust the FFP for us and next summer we can spend what we want. Rhodes has to get 20+ again now whether he goes in the summer or not. Finally there are players around him who will make him look the player he truly is.

Not yet he hasn't Stuart, put him on the bench and use him as required, like the last 15 mins against Boro, JR scores when he wants remember, lets find out how true that is
Husky Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 "Boro have cancelled the move". Maybe they actually looked at some full game footage rather than just the highlights? 9 million would have been a good deal.
yoda Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I have no problems with Rhodes staying when we are in a dubious league position...pair him up with Watt and let them get on with it! ATTACK! exactly

He is the one who has made this situation very difficult for all parties. I don't think Rhodes will feature heavily over the next month or two. And quite frankly he doesn't deserve to.
Backroom DE. Posted January 31, 2016 Backroom Posted January 31, 2016 From what I've read, it seems terms were agreed and then Boro cancelled the deal afterwards? If true then I don't know if Rhodes or his agent can be blamed. If Boro had said no at the negotiating table then maybe something could have been done, rather than agreeing and then backing out afterwards. Seems a little cowardly to me.
