[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

He surely has to go back tomorrow and agree to Boros terms for his and Rovers sake. How can PL build a team around a player who wants to leave?

It seems clear Lambert is not planning to build around Rhodes, he just wants him gone. What that means for the next six months, assuming Jordan isn't sold by the time the window closes, is anyone's guess.

What a strange situation, I wonder what on earth is going through Jordans mind right now.

Lambert won't build a team around Rhodes full stop Baz. I'm pretty sure he doesn't rate him.

Big worry, his value could slash but also Beranhio has more or less been frozen out for 6 months and still appears to have retained his value.

Him returning and blocking the manager's plans is the worst case scenario for us.

It's about us improving our team, if we have to lose a million on Rhodes to do that then so be it.

He has said we should have sold him 3 windows ago, he clearly doesn't rate him. Throw in Mani's info and the picture is clear.

Why should we take a hit because a player wants to leave the club ? I don't get that, if he wants to leave let him lose a million.

I suppose the difference there is that WBA haven't been coming out and saying they need to sell Berahino and are desperate for him to be gone. Quite the opposite.

20 goals a season from this guy. These people are like golddust.

I can't get my head around some of these comments.

The challenge for PL is to create the openings for him...............something we have failed to do this season.

Yes he will have to adjust his plans but surely a guy of his qualities can adapt to a changed scenario.

Because if we have three players lined up for tomorrow and we cannot get them in we become weaker. It's also partly our fault for offering him a stupidly big initial contract.

And technically he doesn't want to leave, if we accept a big we still have to pay up Rhodes' deal. That only becomes void if he hands in a transfer request.

Nah,

Boro cocked this up by not doing their homework

In the Premier League they are. Not true of the Championship though. At the half way stage of the season, nine players are half way to that total.

And in either case, the fewest amount of goals scored by a promoted club last season was 88. So in the grand scheme of things, 20 isn't that much.

No point building your team around someone who scores 20 goals a season if it massively restricts the ability of the rest of the team to contribute the other 70 required.

Having been thoroughly professional with his comments yesterday, Lambert has let his emotions rule today. He's hung the player out to dry by confirming him wanting out so frequently. The only saving grace, ironically, is Rhodes' professionalism.

On another note, my lad was delighted when he heard the news this afternoon so not everyone will have the knives out.

Breaking news: Stuart's lad loves Jordan Rhodes!

I bet he also blames Jason Lowe for all the evil in the world

I don't think there is any way back for Rhodes following Lambert's statement.

Seemingly, he's wanted away for three windows, gets the opportunity with a club that seems destined for the PL and then, IMV, his agents have blown it through their greed. Let's face it, M'boro must have had a bloody good heads-up on what the financial package would be through Uncle Steve.

All my sympathy lies with Rovers and Lambert. I have none for Rhodes.

If I was Rhodes, I would be engaging the sharpest solicitor and accountant immediately.

Yeah i agree, 99% of time then wages are sorted out before a bid is put in. One of the parties has change their minds or is trying it on.

There is even a family connection, this has gone wrong at the Boro end, no doubt about it, Gibson got the freights I would wager

Didn't we fail to win a game this season until Rhodes returned from injury? Not sure he's holding many of the current lot back, they're just crap.

He certainly doesn't seem to fit into Lambert's style of play, though, which probably makes it best for all parties if he moves on.

" Technically he doesn't want to leave " ? Are you having a laugh ? Did he sleepwalk from Oxford to Middlesborough ?

Yeah, they are. There is only Conway I would keep from our current midfielders, and even then I'd want him as cover for two better wingers.

You can't blame Lambert at all. Every man and his dog has known that Rhodes has wanted away for ages.

I have always been in the keep Rhodes camp but further comments from Lambert reveal that we just may have to rebuild by utilising the money from any possible sale of him.

As usual, we continue to be kept totally in the dark from the loons in Pune. We now know from PL's comments that, for the time being at least, any team rebuilding will only happen from existing player sales.
