[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

I like my job but if someone offered me more money and a chance to be higher up the ladder i would go and have a talk see what we can agree. doesn't mean i don't like the company i work for, and all my adoring fans!

I work in the real world unfortunately not on the Fantasy Island that is the football world. I know that any jobs I went for I had to keep quiet about. If word got out you'd been somewhere for an interview you'd be on your way before too long.

So he just wandered up there to see what a s-- thole Middlesborough really is.

No he went up there after the clubs agreed a fee, it's unbelievable that Boro did not know what JR or his agents wanted prior, especially with the family connection.

Gibson is either trying it on or he has not got the £9 million up front, or just maybe he is still @#/? off with his previous attempt

We need to remember here Lambert's comments a week or two ago about doing limited, sensible business in January with a view to a major overhaul in the summer and signing some 'big hitters'. He was clearly under the impression when making those comments that there would be significant resources at his disposal. Now he would have been premature and fairly naive to promise an overhaul in the summer if that could only happen IF a club made a decent bid for Rhodes and IF Rhodes agreed to the move. Too many ifs, buts and maybes there. What IF Rhodes had broke his leg at Charlton last week? No money for Rovers for a very long time.

As for this theory that the only chance we have of spending money and strengthening seriously is by selling Rhodes asap, then I'd like to draw people's attentions to Middlesbrough. A prime example of a club no bigger than ours with similar revenues who have managed to ride roughshod over FFP rules and have spent huge sums of money over the last 3 years and were very close to a deal worth in excess of £10 million for a player many on here seem to now consider inferior to Simeon Jackson!

Rhodes has shown repeatedly that despite relentless speculation in the media, that he is a professional and will give it his all. We need him to because we're in a relegation dogfight and as per 3 seasons ago his contribution COULD be the difference between us being in League One and the Championship next season.

As impressed as I was with our performance as a team yesterday, I'm going to wait a few weeks before hailing a great new system that will see all our problems solved. We beat Oxford United of the 4th division with a pretty much full strength side. If we do the same to Middlesbrough on Saturday then perhaps I'll start to come round to the idea that Rhodes isn't needed and we can progress in the league without relying on him, but in the likely event we struggle for points over the next few weeks whilst facing some of the better teams in this league we are going to need all the quality we can get, including the help of our top scorer.

Bravo sir!

how can he keep it quiet, wasn't it blackburns website that said he's gone for talks?? any boss knows theres a chance anyone can leave for a better job, people are going over the top saying he wants to leave so what he's still going to play football like he has done last 18months! its a blessing in disguise, we finally have a descent strike force to see us out of the relegation scrap!

So JR having tried to get out of the club that is paying him handsomely for the last few transfer windows then goes and fecks the club over by demanding too much from his suitors.

Thanks Jordan, thanks a lot.

The reports I've seen suggests Boro accepted Jordan's terms initially, only to back out afterwards. Not sure if you can blame him for that.

That statement the club has put out is disgraceful.

Lambert has made it clear Rhodes is not part of his plans and has chucked a number of digs in his comments.

Lets be under no illusion, Under Lambert the football has been dross and if anything has been a number of steps behind what Bowyer produced.

For a number of windows, the message of "we need to rebuild" has been over used. Exactly how many times do we need to rebuild this squad?

The truth is, Rovers for a number of windows have played the numbers game and have brought in a number of players which are poor and straight off the bottom shelf.

In Rhodes they have a player, who im pretty sure without we would of been relegated.

The player wanting to move on is natural, he wants to play at the highest level, at rovers this is never going to happen.

Yesterday we beat a league 2 team 3-0 convincingly, but lets not be under any illusions. Our league form and performances have been attrocious.

The money from Rhodes deal is being muted as a way to rebuild squad? This works if we actually bring in players who will reignite the supporter base

Crowds continue to fall and we are a team who are showing relegation form.

That is not the case. When a player is transferred the contract with the selling club automatically comes to an end. If the player has officially put in a transfer request he forfeits the right to a signing on fee

Doesn't work like that I am afraid. If a player doesn't submit a transfer request then their contract has to be paid up by selling club, usually an agreement is come to.

If they submit a transfer request then they waive this right.

A signing on fee is to do with the buying club.

I had resigned myself to Jordan leaving so this has been a bit of a shock. The announcement on the Boro website provides no clue as to which side of the table it broke down from and all we have are rumours and speculation.

As I have long believed Gibson to be a jumped up summat I am chosing to blame him until proven otherwise. Its payback for messing with him last year or he's thick and can't do his sums.

Anyway it aint over til the fat lady sings - I'll let that be Shaw.

EDIT: just read the Rovers statement. Not a good call to directly blame Jordan (even if it was him/his agent) when he himself says that personal terms were agreed. That puts the Fans against Jordan and he's to blame for all that happens if he stays, for the rest of this Season. I thought PL was better than that. What a mess but we've had so many so it's just another.

Slightly different take on it , in this North East paper

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/14243071.Middlesbrough_pull_out_of_Jordan_Rhodes_deal___but_it_could_yet_be_resurrected_before_the_transfer_deadline/

Boro were prepared to honour the terms of Rhodes’ Blackburn contract, which is understood to have included a significant bonus in the event of promotion.

However, Rhodes’ negotiating team are believed to have demanded additional bonuses clauses and incentive-based payments which would have potentially taken the deal above Boro’s current wage ceiling.

I'd start Graham and Watt. In fact I wouldn't even put Rhodes on the bench. He's made his bed. I'm hoping Lambert is on the phone now telling him to turn around on the A1 because there is no place for him at Rovers.

I agree with that.

Let's not forget that Rhodes wanted out. He went public with his views in the summer

That statement is stupidity. Whatever people say, Rhodes is by far our best player and a makes our team much stronger.

Something like, Rhodes asked to leave, he failed to agree terms so we welcome him back.

And, even being there yesterday where Jackson did ok, next week we must start Rhodes and Watt.

How is Rhodes our best player? surely that's what you are basing that on.

For me, I think Hanley is our best player by far. bring more qualities to the team

Madness. What message does that send to the guys who played yesterday ? " We're all equal guys but some are more equal than others ? ".

Exactly. Rhodes wanted to leave on Friday and the team performed well on Saturday

If Lambert does that then he deserves sacking.

Lambert deserves sacking? for what?

Lambert is doing his job and wants to get this team back to the Premier League and the team is more important than any one player is

What don't you understand about Lambert not wanting him? We want the money.

Lambert's comments he has made since the end of the Oxford game have been clear and simple to understand. he wants the money to improve the team overall and strengthen other areas of the team and think Rhodes should have been sold before

A bit early to be sticking the boot in Glen, PL has only been here 5 minutes and hasn't had one full window yet

Lambert's statement today, particularly the last sentence, seems a pretty clear indication that Rhodes won't be walking back into the team anytime soon and is likely to be spending time on the bench, although I doubt he'll be in the squad for the trip to Middlesbrough. Sadly, it completely scuppers Lambert's plans to rebuild the squad to mount a promotion challenge whilst remaining within the FFP rules. It really is a no win situation for the club. Stuck with a player who wants to be elsewhere and who doesn't feature in the manager's plans for the future.

Like I said before Rhodes doesn't suit Lambert's tactics and style of play.

He wanted the money to rebuild the squad. that's what is most important to him.

I wouldn't be surprise if Rhodes is sold by tomorrow deadline

What are you trying to say that we have to pay up Jordan's contract as we accepted a bid?

I am personally excited by Watt and hopefully a few more like him will bring much needed quality to the team.

if Rhodes stays then a front 3 of Graham/Rhodes/Watt has a mixture of pace/hold up play and goals!

Yeah, that's how every transfer in football works. Usually an agreement is come to though, never paid in full.

Why do you think clubs want players to submit transfer requests?

Somebody is trying it on alright. Either individually or in concert.

As people at the game yesterday said Watt wasn't that quick, I'm not sure where the pace is coming from.

Glen, lets give Lambert time to build his squad. surely we should trust Lambert and back him. Rhodes doesn't suit Lambert's style of play or Tactics at all

we have a manager who has promotion on his cv

Plus lets not forgot that Rhodes has wanting out for 18 months.

It's not disgraceful at all. Manager doesn't fancy player and wants to sell.

One of the reasons we have been signing cheap low players is because of the embargo due to the contracts handed out to Rhodes et al. Our good friend Shebby again.

That's IF Lambert will play Rhodes. This is where he could have helped himself by being more diplomatic.

He could have suggested that we welcome Jordan back (publicly) whilst rollicking Rhodes and his agent privately. Perhaps he is trying to keep his other targets sweet.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile going back into FFP in the Summer IF it means bringing in, for instance, McGeady and McCormack? Then selling Rhodes in the Summer - might but a rocket up his agent that means his client would be on the bench and watching his gravy train disappear.

Having come to terms with the fact that Rhodes was going and hopeful that Lambert had a plan it has been a real bummer all this.
