Fans have to recognise that both parties, the club and player, want the sale.

This isn't about Rhodes wanting to leave, transfer requests or engineering a move to a another club. This is about Blackburn Rovers needing to sell, however the club wont go public with that, because that'll affect the players price.

This is the residue left from the Kean's days - signing a player on a stupidly-long contract, on stupidly-high wages and assuming promotion back to the Premier League will fix everything.

Jordan Rhodes is in a good place, he is guaranteed a high wage for another 3.5 years. The problem is, it that his career is likely to stagnate if he stays. He shouldn't be blamed for wanting to leave, because the club don't want him but they have to play him to keep his value. This isn't a player like Nathan Delfoneso, for example - who you can leave him to rot in the reserves - because he holds no value.

Other clubs will be monitoring this situation closely, if he doesn't go anywhere today, in the summer - his price will drop. Even if he doesn't find a new club, by this time next year, he'll be even cheaper.

He should sack his agent, a pay cut and a season in the Premier League (which is likely with Boro) could be a stepping stone to a further transfer to an established top flight club.

his Dad is his agent I believe...........................

Rhodes' legacy at Rovers has taken a bit of a hit in the last 24 hours. Whether it's him or his agent, he is looking more and more like your typical football mercenary. Moreover, this difficulty to agree terms has royally put a spanner in the works with regards to us bringing more players in!

So they've got 'poor' Jordan over a barrel now having slept on it.

As much as it pains me to say it, well played Gibson.

With more than a little help from Lambert. It's extremely bad form but sharp business practice I suppose.

Rhodes must wonder what the hell's going on. He's always performed and behaved impeccably now no -one really wants him. His proposed new employers won't pay him what he wants and Lambert has bolted the door firmly behind him.

Bizarre. Vital any reduction of the cost in the deal to Boro comes out of JR's pocket and not ours.

Nice to see Dunny has a sense of humour:

Let's "get realistic" it's going to happen.....that's "realistic" not "get real" for those of you that read headlines 👍🏻😉

so Gibson has virtually played Rhodes, and pulled a fast one on him?

or vice versa. Either Rhodes has gone back to Gibson with his tail between his legs (helped in no small part by Lambert's lack of a 'welcome back' no doubt), or Gibson has panicked and has agreed to pay him what he wants.

I think Lambo needs to plan as if Rhodes IS leaving. Boro or another club will take him today. We can't be left with our pants down here.

Hasn't he already? loan agreed with price to make permanent for Watt, maybe the same with Graham, plus Jackson on a fixed period loan. might not be world beaters, but will do a job, Lambert is hopefully looking at full-backs and midfielders with any wages freed up by the Rhodes deal.

Lambert did go public with this yesterday?

Thats why it was a keany statement as somebody (I think it was Glenn) suggested yesterday. I was surprised by the remarks made by the manager, but I think that was more of a dig at Middlesbrough, that this deal been going on for a while now and it'd fallen through for some unknown reason.

However, I think a lot of it was self-preservation by the football club, for example using the term 'reluctantly' in the statement that announced he was speaking with Boro... but then releasing the next statement saying the player has been looking to leave. The last thing they want is further backlash from the fans for looking like they are failing to keep star players, so countering that by demonstrating that they are ultimately in control of the situation.

But thats not worked out

something like that, but either way, he is going. The quicker, the better, so that we can move along and find a few players to come in.

It's all a bit strange really. As you say, our first club statement suggested we were "reluctantly" allowing JR to speak to Boro, then Lambert comes out with two separate quotes on Saturday and Sunday suggesting we are more than happy to get rid and should have done so a while ago. Obviously Saturday's comments were made under the assumption the deal would definitely go through, whilst Sunday's were in anger and frustration, but either way it paints a confusing picture.
