[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

The players reacted positively immediately to Sam's arrival. After a brief honeymoon period I'd say it has gone the other way with PL.

Understand and agree with your point about "lleadership" but "man management" is a a crucial part of modern management as well.

Well it may have gone the other way due to the players knowing their days are numbered, i suspect that only four players will be left at the start of next season who were here when Lambert arrived, so yes i am not surprised, hence getting in players he knows will respond, it happens but be sure Lambert will come out on top.

I know it was only Oxford but they were all for doing us over, from what i saw albeit on highlights we looked much more fluent, had pace, and put tackles in, not seen that for ages.

If the player wants to leave, I'm not so sure anyone with a bit of perspective could be desperate for this not to happen. No point keeping an unhappy camper, particularly with the amounts of money that will be freed up to allow Lambert to build what he wants in summer.

On another note, let's not forget that Graham and Watt are only on loan. If we want to keep them permanently, then that could be a large portion of the Rhodes money used up.

Is that meant to be an argument in favour of Rhodes being sold? I'd want much better than that coming in if Rhodes does go.

As regards to your first point I'd be delighted in footballing terms if Rhodes stayed but it would be a bit pointless if the manager refuses to play him.

Lambert putting all his efforts and energies into placating Rhodes will only serve to split the group as well, putting all your energy into the 'problem child' turns the good kids against you. Text book management stuff all this. He's clearly been reading Prof. John Oliver (leyland DAF) book.

Ah yes Leyland DAF, those bastions of industry

Rhodes had told Sky Sports News HQ he was "baffled and disappointed" by Middlesbrough's decision to withdraw from the deal.

The forward said he had passed a medical and agreed personal terms on a switch to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, but was informed on Sunday morning that Middlesbrough had cancelled the move.

Boro, however, claimed the deal broke down because they were unable to agree personal terms with Rhodes.

Rhodes a "problem child"? You'd think he was Leon Best the way people are going on.

You might be right and it might be a decision that will be the making of Lambert or one he will die by. Hope the others won't mind if they don't perform at any point as is their usual modus operandi and "the problem child" isn't there to bail them out with a goal or two though.

More idiotic behaviour from Lambert should a deal somewhere else not come off today. Still has to get the best out of him should he come back.

On the word of Nixon you castigate Lambert again. I get it, you don't like Lambert but don't use the oft failed word of a two bit hack as your ammunition. Every other media report tells us Rhodes was off to Middlesbrough at that time to resume talks.

Unless Venkys are willing to pump in £10m of capital into the club in summer for Lambert to get his own players in, I'm not sure where the funds are going to come from to spend on decent quality and stay out of another embargo. Selling Rhodes and using that money to mould Lambert's own team is surely the best way forward for next season.

I'm not sure where you're coming from when you say "is that meant to be an argument for selling Rhodes". Crossed wires, maybe...

How do we know he isn't? Surely Rhodes being treated as the prodigal son must have a negative effect at times? How would you feel if you turned up to work every day and no matter what you did it got overlooked in favour of someone who is seemingly beyond reproach no matter what they do?

Agree with that. I think that Steve Gibson saw an opportunity to save some money on the deal knowing that Rhodes wanted to leave Rovers and the Rovers are desperate for the money. I believe he intends or intended to shaft both parties and had every intention of resurrection the deal today to do so. However, he may have got caught out with the interest from Watford. If I were Rhodes, rather than travelling Northeast to Middlesbrough, I would be travelling Southeast to Watford leaving a not so very courteous Two word message for Mr Gibson where the second word is off.

The other thing - with parachute payments stopping - can we really afford to keep a player on such big wages ? £9m partly reinvested, partly towards running cost - with approx three decent players wages freed up. Whichever way you look at it Venky's are going to have to continue to cover some significant losses next year if we are to have a go at promotion.

Under John Oliver they became one of the leading manufacturers in the world. In fact I think they were the top truck manufacturer for several years.

The company I worked for supplied them, they also used to do some high precision machining for us, until I brought it back in house at approx' 50% less cost, yep leading truck mfg against Volvo, Mercedes, Man, don't think so.

The project meetings were like from the 50's. I used to go back to base and say to my Op's Director can I have the salary of 3 people please?

The amount of waste was also freightening,

It should have been compulsory for their managers to read "The machine that changed the world" they might still be British if they had.

Because I thought you implied the Rhodes money would be used up making Graham and Watt permanent. Apologies if that wasn't what you meant.

Gibson: "wait lets reject this deal, and force Rovers to lower the asking price"

Rovers: " crap, we need the money, lets lower the asking price, and get the deal done"

Gibson: " we did it, success"

is that how im seeing it?

Nothing stopping us selling him in summer if we are financially screwed then though is there?

A dangerous game for them to play with the V's.

Boro need to get this right, they already blew it last year when they couldn't score and missed out, they still cannot score this season and missing out on the EPL in the 2016/17 season could well be the end of their competitiveness.
