That's one way of looking at it :)

Glaringly obvious now that Gibson didn't have the £9 million up front

Well he tried all sorts last time but he's finally pulled it off by the looks of it. Maybe clever stuff from him if he's seen us go out and commit to signings then pull the plug or maybe he's just bottled it then been talked around by new terms from our lot. Must be one or t'other.

@Northern_Rover we apparently asked for it in summer so it appears in next seasons accounts so will count towards

next seasons FFP not this season which enables us to spend in summer and ensure no embargo on Jan 2018.

Looks like that guy who came over from India is still pulling the strings

That sounds like a loan deal with an agreement to sign. Something Boro were originally after. Some wool being pulled over our eyes here I wonder ?

We were never going to spend £13m today so getting it in summer makes no difference. Particularly if it helps us avoid more issues with FFP.

Just get it done!

I really can't understand this. We are giving one of our best players to Boro until the end of the season. We want paying - by way of loan fee if necessary.

It seems some just want to see the back of him regardless!

Beating Oxford has gone to people's heads.

Who says it's a loan? My understanding is that it's a £9m fee + £2m if they get promoted and a further £2m if they stay up. So it's either £9m or £11m in the Summer and then maybe another £2m in 2017. As long as there is a proper contract whether he fails or not would not be Rovers' problem. Delaying the fee makes sense to me if it delays any future FFP issue, given that there is no point in trying to spend £11m in the next 5 hours.

So just to get this right, we're basically signing over our leading goalscorer to a rival at the 11th hour for nothing, with money promised in the summer and a bit more IF they go up and stay up?

This really feels like a con job to me. I could just about accept selling Rhodes if the money was immediately put to use by bringing in one or two quality players, but to not receive any money until the summer and rely on cheapie loans for the remainder of this season makes a mockery of the whole process. I really hope rumours about French 2nd division players and Jay Simpson amount to nothing, because if they are serious candidates to replace a player of Rhodes' ability we might as well give up now.

I'll just remind everyone once again that time is not on our side. We can't put our feet up and look forward to the summer to spend money. We're in a relegation dogfight, haven't won since early December and look set to lose Rhodes, Olsson and Lawrence without properly replacing any of them.

Leaving it until the summer will very quickly see a diminshed transfer fund and it will mean nothing if we're a League One side by then.

Kamy saying on Twitter all of the money will be paid during the summer.

If true, I guess that means best we can hope for this window is another loan. Gulp.

Or we can sign someone and also agree to pay in the summer, when our money comes in.
