Makes sense to me

Get guaranteed cash in summer get players in on deals like Watt with a permanent deal in summer.

Great thinking

Doesn't make much sense to me.

Yes it's a better deal than the previous one with add ons IF all goes to plan but aren't both clubs taking a colossal punt on Boro actually getting promoted? How are they going to be able to afford to pay 13m up front if they lose form and just miss out on promotion?

Worse case scenario: We go down without Rhodes goals and they miss out and can't afford to pay us.

The trouble is, we're dealing with a Club who can't really afford him and who are trying to do it on the never never.

So just to get this right, we're basically signing over our leading goalscorer to a rival at the 11th hour for nothing, with money promised in the summer and a bit more IF they go up and stay up?

This really feels like a con job to me. I could just about accept selling Rhodes if the money was immediately put to use by bringing in one or two quality players, but to not receive any money until the summer and rely on cheapie loans for the remainder of this season makes a mockery of the whole process. I really hope rumours about French 2nd division players and Jay Simpson amount to nothing, because if they are serious candidates to replace a player of Rhodes' ability we might as well give up now.

I'll just remind everyone once again that time is not on our side. We can't put our feet up and look forward to the summer to spend money. We're in a relegation dogfight, haven't won since early December and look set to lose Rhodes, Olsson and Lawrence without properly replacing any of them.

Leaving it until the summer will very quickly see a diminshed transfer fund and it will mean nothing if we're a League One side by then.

After the way they have acted would anyone really trust Gibson and Boro with a deal like that ? What if he flops up there or they miss out on promotion, they're really going to want to pay up then.

Something strange is going on here more than likely a cover up to the fact it's a loan deal contracted to buy at the end. Just like Boro were actually offering in the past.

Imagine the uproar if its announced as a loan deal.

I'm just thinking similar here. If Gibson told Shelfy loan with a view to a permanent 13mill if Boro go up. Shelfy says yes, and Boro don't go up and they send him back.

It seems some just want to see the back of him regardless!

Beating Oxford has gone to people's heads.

I think people just want an end to this whole saga, Stu.

Rhodes has no long-term future here. The player wants out, the manager wants him out, we need money to rebuild. It makes sense for all parties involved.

What if we get to the summer and 'Boro's interest has gone cold? What if he gets a serious injury? Are we just supposed to bob along with this luxury player we can't afford and do another patch-up job with freebies and bargain bucket signings? For all the talk of Rhodes being our superstar, there's only 'Boro & Hull who have made offers for him. I wouldn't be so sure of someone else paying top dollar for him in the summer.

Few questions:

1) Is there less money to pay Huddersfield if the deal is in another seasons time? i.e after so many seasons at Blackburn signing on fee reduced.

2) Does getting money in next years budget guarantee we don't fall back under embargo (if so good idea)

3) Would this deal have not gone through unless Borough pay in summer (if so good idea)

4) Does this mean Venkys won't pull out before get Rhodes money in summer (if so erm bad idea??)

etc etc.

so many scenarios we don't understand but they asked for a reason for payments to be in summer etc....logic suggests if you ask for something you want something....so therefore we presume this is good business to get money in summer??

I don't think this getting all the fee in the summer is true. Most deals these days are done in stages, so a part fee now with the rest over say a year or even longer would be the norm. We shouldn't be held to ransom anyway.

We should also have had some sort of contingency plan in place. It would have been nice to sign a decent midfielder (which technically could still happen before 11pm) by extending bank facilities prior to the bulk of the monies coming in in the summer, if that is the case.

After the farce of yesterday, and Rovers playing hardball then the onus should be on the player not Rovers to seal it. If they will loan us a decent player until the end of the season, perhaps, that'd be worth a look but we have to get something and, after they reneged on the deal already done yesterday, I'm sorry but their promises and IOUs aren't worth @#/?.

If the money isn't paid until the summer surely Venkys could put the cash forward. Or take out a loan and for those worried about Middlesbrough not paying up (which they will) that would be for the high courts to deal with. Not to mention they have some valuable playing assets...

Though of course there is the timing issue with deadlines...
