[Archived] Rhodes To Boro

Rhodes has gone.

He is history, another ex-player.

Let's move on.

Exactly my sentiments. Too many PL attackers on this MB......give the guy some time, your love in with GB lasted 3 long years, with PL we have had 3 short months.

As someone who defended Bowyer I made a prediction that I would be defending Lambert to those hailing him as the second coming a short while ago.

I am very impressed with the leadership that PL has shown over this weekend. He made a the toughest call we have and it wasn't for cash, (as we didn't spend it) it was for the betterment of our football club/team.

I must admit that I am slowly warming to Lambert. He clearly has a plan is prepared to make the key decisions that need to be made for the good of the club. In this respect he rather reminds me of Gordon Lee, who endured a tough few months at the start of his time in charge, got rid of popular and key players in Field and Garbutt, and rebuilt the following summer and won promotion. Lambert clearly believes that the club is better off with the money for Rhodes and played hardball to make sure the move happened which is a sign that the guy has the full backing of the owners and that this is a guy who clearly knows what he needs to do to take the club forward.

In relation to the other posts about the current strikers stats.

According to Wiki, Charlie Austin left Burnley after scoring 45 Goals in 90 games between 2010 - 2013

Goals in all Competitions from 2010 - 2013

Danny Ings - 6 goals (for Burnley)

Sam Vokes - 12 goals (for Wolves, Leeds (loan), Sheff Utd (loan), Norwich (loan), Brighton (loan) and Burnley).

After the sale of Austin, the prolific goalscorer in a mediocre Championship team

Goals in all Competitions 2013-14 season

Danny Ings - 26 goals

Sam Vokes - 21 goals

Im not posting this to be provocative or anything, just pointing out that the other players stepped up and won promotion without the 'star player'. Blackburn can do this too, probably.

I believe the same, problem is with our run of fixtures we are likely to drop into the bottom 3 at some point (with a game or two in hand) at that point panic could set in leading to another sacking or worse momentum could drag us into a spin we can't get out of.

If we can get to summer in this league I think things will be looking up

We need to stick with the current management team whatever happens in the rest of the season. We've invested too much in them to change again. Don't forget Lambert may be the man in the hot seat but 90 % of Rovers fans would have taken either of the other two members of the team when it was plain to see that Bowyer was on the way out. Most of our previously well thought of managers didn't make an immediate impact.

Jim Smith, Gordon Lee, Howard Kendall, all did poorly at first in the lower leagues but came good eventually. Even Souey and Mark Hughes struggled at first.

Only Don Mackay and Kenny Dalglish and the much derided Sam Allardyce had an immediate impact.

I see quite a lot of similarities in Souey and Lambert's start at the club. Souey clearly couldn't get the players he took on to work how he wanted and made it perfectly clear to them that they weren't good enough. Even in his second season it wasn't the best start and it only really started happening when Hughes came in. I'm confident he knows what he's doing.

Thanks Jordan!

As said by Dunny (and many on here) I think its a good deal all round.

Good money for us, good move for him.

That said, I stand by my thoughts that he won't be anywhere near as prolific in the Premier League as he has been in the Football League. I've often said to mates who don't see Rhodes week in week out that his ability is thus.

Pace - Below Average

Strength - Below Average

Work Rate - Average

Hold up/Link up Play - Average

Heading (attacking positions) - A little above Average

Finishing ability - World Class

Unfortunately for Rhodes the modern day Premier League striker needs to be above average at all facets of the game.

Favourite Rhodes memory - Hat-trick away at Huddersfield 2013/14 season

Favourite Rhodes goal - Peterborough (h) - 2012/13 season

FACTS

2012/13 Season

Goals - 27 in League, 1 in FA Cup

Goals against Premier League Clubs - 0 (game in FA Cup vs. Arsenal)

Record vs Former Club (Huddersfield Town) - Played 2 Scored 2

2013/14 Season

Goals - 25 in League

Goals against Premier League Clubs - 0 (game in FA Cup vs. Man City)

Record vs Former Club (Huddersfield Town) - Played 2 Scored 3

2014/15 Season

Goals - 21 in League

Goals against Premier League Clubs - 0 (2 games in FA Cup vs. Swansea and Liverpool)

**** NB Rhodes played the final 13 minutes at home to Swansea, was an unused sub at home to Stoke and away at Liverpool, played full 90 minutes at home to Liverpool. ****

Record vs. Former Club (Huddersfield Town) - Played 2 Scored 1 (missed penalty at home)

2015/16 Season

Goals - 10 in League, 1 in FA Cup

Goals against Premier League Clubs - 0 (no games so far in season)

Record vs. Former Club (Huddersfield Town) - Played 0 (injured)

Overall

Goals - 83 in League, 2 in FA Cup

Record vs. Premier League teams - Played 5, Goals 0

Record vs. Former Club - Played 6, Goals 6

Rhodes interview

"There's an overwhelming desire to have people who want you"

Referring to Lambert not wanting him? Could just as easily be him referring to Boro clearly wanting him quite desperately.

Rhodes should just take his wages at Boro and STFU - he was treated ok at Ewood and paid a King's ramson and no need to have a dig at anyone.

He was the one after a transfer out for ages - prick, and that comes from a previous Rhodes apologist.

Agreed. Posted it as I wasn't sure if I understood it correctly, but to insinuate he wasn't wanted at Ewood is a bit petty, especially considering the borderline hero worship the fans gave him.

He wanted to leave long before people entertained the idea of him leaving

It's pretty obvious Lambert didn't want him. Irrelevant now, he's gone. Lambert will thrive or die on that decision.

If any of the current squad do half as well for us us Rhodes has done in his time we'll be very pleased I'd have thought.

Apologies if it's been mentioned anywhere already but have the exact fee and payment terms been clarified?

Anyone worried the money will go amiss? Yeah definitely. If there's money to spend in the summer (allegedly) I really don't understand the indecent haste to shove Rhodes out of the door now when it's too late to reinvest the proceeds. Something doesn't add up.

Absolutely!

Honestly, why does anyone care what Rhodes says anymore? He's not a Rovers player now so I could not care less. If he wants to cry about not being wanted here then fine, whatever. He and Lambert have both taken some parting shots at each other, time for us all to move on and hope he doesn't replicate his knack of scoring against his former clubs on Saturday.

Shoved out of the door, or was it that, for the first time in a transfer window there wasn't anyone at the other side trying to keep it shut?

Previously there was a manager (sic... youth development coach) there who was frightened to death that without him he was doomed.

As long as Balaji has his £1million profit what does it matter what the exact terms were?

I think Rhodes was just referring to the Boro manager who's clearly wanted him for a while. Enough to persuade his chairman to keep after him and spend a fortune on him despite there being cheaper options. No big deal. Rhodes isn't the type to have digs but also if he had been miss treated he also seems the type who would be honest about it.

The witch hunt didn't take long to get started. Altogether on Saturday, Boooo....... :rover:

It must be worth a fiver on Hanley to be red carded on Saturday?

I was thinking that. Lambert needs to have a word with him. We don't want to be playing with ten up there or be missing our best player for three games.

I remember Fred Pickering ( who was a real centre forward ) coming back to Ewood a week or two back after his " big money "move to Everton. Him and Mike England had a ding dong battle all the game but they managed to stay on the pitch, just about.

Josh Bennett, 18, also allowed his high-rise flat to be used as a refuge for runaways, often plying them with alcohol

I for one certainly wont be booing Rhodes on Saturday.

Definitely not looking forward to him playing against us though!

I'm not a big fan of his but I can't see why he should be booed. He did his best for the club while he was here. When moves he wanted got knocked back in the past he got on with it. He never showed the club in a bad light. Ok he was a bit tardy in signing for ' Boro but that's football today.

I won't be booing him anyway.

I'm glad we are playing Boro on saturday, how many times over the years have you seen a player sign for a team then play his former employers quite soon after joining, and the former team goes and gets a result. That's how I'm going to look at it anyway rather than him marking his debut with a hat trick :glare:
