Unless Lambert was a last desperate roll of the dice to try and get in the play offs this season and it's accepted that's failed.

As JH says all the lads on loan go back at the end of the season leaving us with nowt. So I agree with him I can't see how it can be said the squad is shaping up nicely.

How I see it bringing in Lambert and co was the last roll of the dice to save us from relegation. If you think the manager and squad we had in October was going anywhere other than down you must be a supreme optimist. The jury is out at the moment but I think we have a pretty good chance of staying up. If we do in my opinion it will be a result. Next season is a long way off.

If this transfer is so public then why can't the breakdown in all monies paid out to who and how much from this sale be made public ?

Football clubs and players dont want these things in the public domain. I can totally fans wanting to know but players/agents/Clubs are entitled to privacy

It says to me, I'd loved to have carried on playing for Blackburn Rovers but they at the club wanted or needed the money for me.

I think Rhodes may have agreed to stay at Rovers for another pay rise. Its how they kept him happy last time he wanted away, by extending his contract. If he hasn't wanted away for the last three windows then Lambert has lied but it was in the public domain about the last two.

I know people won't agree (especially if he scores on Saturday and Middlesbrough win) but in a strange way perhaps its good he can play. If Rovers win then how better to send out the "moving on" and "no individual is bigger" message? If Rovers made no attempt to block him from playing then Lambert could use that message to the players.

You can blame me now if he scores a hattrick. ;)

I think all things in football particularly transfer dealings and club ownership should be made more transparent. No need for it not to be but in reality it's covered up for a reason.

Didn`t Mike Newell want to do that when he was at luton and never got another job!

Does anybody know if Boro have paid in full for Rhodes? I know the vast majority of deals are paid in instalments, I'm just curious as if it is in instalments that could rule out Venkys selling him as part of an exit plan as the rest of the payments would come to BRFC not them.

One single payment including the promotion kicker of £2m (if they go up) on 1 July then another £2m if they are still in the Prem on 1 July 2017 I believe.

FFP works on a cash basis so this clears all the income into next year's FFP calculation.

It was not needed for this year's calculations- appears Rovers have done exceptionally well in January's trading and there is headroom for more loanees without needing the Rhodes transfer money... gives us an idea of how exceptionally onerous his wage must have been.

Let`s hope not, would love to see us pasting Boro.

I think somebody has already mentioned the conflict of interest but whilst 3 points for us may be valuable towards avoiding a relegation fight, 3 points for them may be worth £2m to us.

Even worse though, presumably, if they don't go up this season then we could miss out on £4m - unless we get £2m for them going up next season.

Still, if we somehow managed to go on some incredible run - very likely now we'd jettisoned our Achilles heel - that will be a drop in the ocean compared to the PL money...! :rover:

I vote let him play. He might create the same one plan only,in the Boro side, as he may have done in the Rovers. You never know we might knick something.

I imagine he'll benefit from being surrounded by significantly better players. Rather than being relied upon to win matches entirely, he'll just be relied upon to score the chances created by Boro's creative types. As we've sold our creative players (before bringing in Gomez and Watt, anyhow), here he was either required to create his own chances or feed on some pretty meagre scraps. He'd probably still have hit 20 goals if he'd stayed on for the rest of the season, but with nobody else contributing that would not have been enough. It's possible Watt, Graham and Gomez could have contributed to the overall tally, but we'll never know.

Until James Vardy got a payrise this week, he was on the same as Rhodes! Puts it in perspective I think.

Rev, re your earlier post, whatever special expertise is required to sell players that other clubs want, I'm not convinced that Shaw had it! It makes much more sense to believe that Venky's adviser has made certain recommendations which resulted in GB and Co leaving and now Shaw.

Surely its all about getting the Club back on the up again? Whether its with the intention of selling it on when it gets there, I couldn't say but I'm encouraged either way.

Yes and that's why it should be made compulsory to disclose dealings or if not all the details just what the agents and whoever else gets. We already have it of sorts with clubs having to show their annual agents payment, why not to who and when as well ?

It has crossed my mind that some of our players, jealous or perhaps disgruntled regarding the sheer size of Rhodes' salary compared to their own, may have been deliberately sabotaging his performances for some time. This would explain the bizarre sight of the ball being continually pummelled two yards above his head by our centre halves.

It would also explain Lambert 's apparent desire to get shut. It would be natural for a manager of Lambert 's character to weed out anyone affecting group harmony, and, let's face it, any of us who have spent any time in the presence of pampered young footballers can easily see players whispering amongst themselves.

It would account also for the excellent performance against an Oxford side who, having beaten a premiership team in the previous round and with a manager hellbent on revenge were roundly thrashed.

I bought a couple of tickets today for Boro this weekend, entirely based on the above theory and with expectation that our boys will unleash hell!

Then again, we might meekly surrender and lose 4-0...

A lot will depend on how much pace they have in the side - unless they have somebody who can break with pace, teams will be able to push a high line and compress the play. Even for better players - it can prove difficult for a passing team when space is constrained and they are under pressure as soon as they receive the ball. This was often an issue for us - we had limited pace in the team - none up front - so the opposition could play a high line.

I think the centre halves launching it above his head was more a mixture of lack of ball-playing quality, and midfielders being invisible than a purposeful exercise. The commentators at Charlton suggested Wards distribution from the back was a noticeable improvement.

Anyway enjoy your day out in Boro, the locals are usually pretty friendly to be fair. Some nice pubs in Thirsk too, as the ground is a fair way from town.
