Backroom DE. Posted February 6, 2016 Backroom Posted February 6, 2016 Weak in the full back positions and centre midfield. If we get better than a 0-0 here I'll be impressed.
den Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 4-5-1 or to be precise 4-4-1-1. Suggests that Lambert doesn't see the outdated straight 4-4-2 as the way forward (thankfully).

davulsukur Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Interesting starting 11. No wingers at all.
pick32 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Steele Marshall ward Hanley spurr Evans Lenihan akpan Gomez Watt Graham According to the LET 4-3-2-1 (Christmas tree formation)
AJW Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Weird how we all see it differently ... I thought it looked more like a 4-4-2 diamond formation
mustard Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Really hope we sign a new LB when the loan window opens. Would rather see Henley in there than Spurr.
Dean Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Leicester are blowing the 4-4-2 myth out the water and Watford. It's a very modern take on it though, nothing like the straight lines of 10 years ago. You only have to look at the wingers for evidence. Left footed Mahrez on the right, right footed Albrighton on the left. This messageboard would be in uproar if we did that.

Left footed Mahrez on the right, right footed Albrighton on the left. This messageboard would be in uproar if we did that. It's making a comeback because of the two holding midfielders. Teams are realising you just go over the top of them, can't go through them. Love two up top, old school.
Stuart Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Really hope we sign a new LB when the loan window opens. Would rather see Henley in there than Spurr.Looking at the LT view of the formation of like us to have much quicker full backs but I wouldn't put a right back at left back.Other than that, an interesting front 3. Looks like a target man to knock down for Gomez and Watt.

Speedie Dived Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Wouldn't old school be 5 up top with 3 defenders? That's old old school.

Love two up top, old school. Yeah, there is a trend developing for anti-possession tactics. Not sure about "old school" though, still uses inverted wingers and holding midfielders. It only works with fast, busy strikers as well - i.e not Jordan Rhodes! Like Leicester and Watford. Can't do it with traditional wingers and number nines

Neal Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Interesting team selection. Obviously hoping that we can keep it compact and hard to break down and hoping Gomez, Watt and Graham can do something. Big game for Watt today with that formation, will be looking at his movement to make something happen. Think it's fair Ward gets another start.
davulsukur Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Weird how we all see it differently ... I thought it looked more like a 4-4-2 diamond formation I initially thought a diamond as well.
RevidgeBlue Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Interesting formation, I've thought for a long while that we can ill afford 2 wingers (Conway and Marshall) contributing the square root of bugger all whilst we struggle in the middle of the park, but GB persisted with that formation come what may. Let's see if it works. Would be a lot more confident with that formation and he who shall not be named up top though.
G Somerset Rover Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Be interested to see how Gomez does in this advanced role. To my knowledge he's not played that role before. Big game for the midfield trio of Lenihan, Evans and Akpan.
den Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 You mean the one Leicester play? I Dont know how Leicester play Rev.
Dean Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 You mean the one Leicester play? Nope. Correctly used the qualifier "straight".
RevidgeBlue Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I Dont know how Leicester play Rev. How convenient.
chaddyrovers Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 From Wheelock Looks like a midfield diamond for #rovers; Corry Evans at the base, Jordi Gomez at the tip. From Rovers twitter Rovers look to have lined up with a diamond midfield, with Evans at the base, Akpan and Lenihan in the centre and Gomez at the top. 0-0
