Thanks to Koi and Ben-2000 for this idea.......

We need to improve the atmosphere at Ewood. Having been to a number of away games the last couple of seasons I have been mighty impressed by the variety of flags at a number of grounds.

So what I was thinking was we raise money via this MB for up to 6 individualised flags on poles (with images of greats such as Garner, and some imaginative logos etc).

I am willing to start this off with a £50 donation. Is anyone willing to:

1. Set up a donation page

2. Design some flags

3. Identify a supplier

I am sure that the Club will supply storage between games.

Any takers.....or is this just barmy?

I'm sure something like (maybe not an actual) justgiving page could be set up easily? Money can easily be transferred via paypal or online transfer I suspect. I'd be more than happy to make a contribution as well. Great idea! :rover:

Good idea. When sourcing flags you need to make sure that they meet current fire safety regulations or you won't get them into grounds.

This is something that the.club will probably help with, both with the safety regs and with storage.

Although the stand looks bare in the link added above it's actually rammed with them now, plus ones on poles, a big one that gets passed around before the game. I'm sure other fans have done the same. I do remember the critical thing with the Wigan effort was to get the club and stadium staff on board before they did anything.

We raised the prospect of new flags at a recent Fans Forum and Alan Myers was quite keen so I think we will be pushing at an open door, especially if we are offering help with funding.

Does anyone have an email address for Alan Myers please?

I am happy to do the initial liaison (and more than hay to piggy back on what the FF have already done on this) but I am not doing everything hence the request for:

1. Someone to set up a donation page

2. Someone to do some designs

Thanks (not biting on the Rhodes comment 😩)

Might be better the financial part of this being done /organised/verified via private messages as it is a world wide public forum? and just the details put on here when sorted . Anybody know what percentage sites like gofundme take from the donations?

Re designs if people put forward idea's / designs etc I'm sure there are a couple of people on here who can sort them out to make them print ready etc once people decide which they want

Re the design PB- there's a site (Barmy Flags) where a lot of club flags are made- http://www.barmyflags.co.uk/ where you can get a simple design etc. I've seen some great Rovers ones recently, (Mill Hill New Order/Blackburn Spezials etc).

Can just remember those Centenary Flags that used to be tied on the perimeter fence. Probably wouldn't pass fire regs now. Has anyone got pics of them?

I would like this 'fund' to be wider in its scope after this. Maybe 2 years ago I was advocating scarves to be given out to everybody that wanted them at a specific match,to follow the great Clubs who all wave their scarves at the same time.

And then I see that one of the little Clubs in the Cup did exactly the same thing(vs Liverpool?) and it looked good then. I was keen to super-donate/sponsor then but just needed to actually be in Lancashire more often.

Want us to be more like the other team in Hamburg.....St Pauli.

How much was the JW flag Ben?

Another idea I have is to have flags based on super fans, such as:

- An orange Abbey flag

- a royal blue Thenodrog flag

- a Gav flag (petite but wholesome)

- a Chaddy flag with him holding hands with GB

- a Yoda flag with a Chinese takeaway menu

St Pauli are brilliant.....I wish!

Let's take it one step at a time....flags.....scarves.....maybe but a new player or two for PL

It was done via a company called Service Graphics based in Skelmersdale... the cost was by far the best quoted... £180.00.

They don't do poles though and that had to be bought seperately (didn't cost much at-all). It is an extendable "poly-carbon" (I think) pole which is the only type the club will allow.

I think the first step would be to get feedback from Myers on what he/the club would think is feasible. There's obviously issues of covering sponsors so ideas will be needed for locating the more permanent flags that aren't on poles. It'd be nice to decorate the ironwork down the sides of the stands and possibly hang from the top of the stands.

There is also the netted segreagation area in the Darwen End... and due to reduced numbers of fans in there I'm sure they could net off the first 3 rows like they do when away fans get the full stand. It's unreserved seating so won't affect anybody's ST seat, also the front rows are least popular in any case.

I have emailed Alan Myers. There has been a positive upturn in Rovers Comms and marketing in the last few months so I expect to hear from him soonish.

Alternatively try LTalbot@rovers.co.uk if the other one won't work. She will make sure it gets to Myers and Cheston.

I think Im right in saying a few years ago that after discussing it with the Fans Forum, in an attempt to improve the look of the ground a bit, the Club funded one of those huge roll out flags that you pass overhead across the length of the stand. Pretty expensive.

Unfortunately because it involves a huge amount of work setting up, about half an hour before and after, I think I'm also right in saying that people quickly tired of it and its currently in storage at Ewood I believe.

The moral of this is any flags need to be extremely easy to put up and take down.
