bubblerrovers Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Can't someone see if the club would allow buckets for donations around the ground for the Huddersfield game, surely a few thousand would be raised easy and enough cash for flags to fill the ground
Ben-2000 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 2 so far. Another £80 in the pot would enable a third to be made. In addition to this there is the existing large JW Flag so we will have at least 3 in total and at a push hopefully 4. Following feedback on both here and Social Media the 2 new designs are as follows: The motto Small Town... Big History with every major trophy we have won and year it was won (we have dropped the image of buildings to focus more on the silverware). The other is a blue and white halved background with a large Lancs rose in the centre, accompanied by Blackburn Rovers FC... Pride of Lancashire. The existing JW one I mentioned has probably been seen my most.... Blue background with Jack proudly holding up the PL trophy.
MCMC1875 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I don't think we should be boasting about being a 'small town club' or a 'family club' for that matter (what is a 'family club' anyway? Always strikes me as an embarrassing label coined by clubs with a small fan base). We've been around for 130 years or so and its been good until the 'big clubs' ruined it post Sky TV. With easy travel, clubs nowadays are more regionally based rather than town (or city) based.
adsfortheblues Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Blue and white flag, with walker and shearer in black and white lifting the trophy, with the following song; Late in May back in 95, Redknapp scored, but the Mancs still cried, what a feeling what a night, CHAMPIONS
VinjayV4 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (what is a 'family club' anyway? Well its certainly not Rovers these days. I fully believe its the "family feeling" and being "nice" that let the sharks in without detection. I hope that term is never used again and even with new ownership it should be a more hardened, ruthless club.
Ben-2000 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Donations still coming in - upto £420.00 now. There will be a surplus in funds & we will see what else we can do with the remaining total when the 2 big flags have been ordered. Possibly a couple of smaller basic one's to compliment what will be there already!
J*B Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Can we negotiate with this guy Ben? There seems very little point in having cash left over, especially if people have donated. I'm assuming he/she can chuck in a really basic flag considering we have some cash left over and we've already had 3 flags off him. 2 good flags at £180 each gives us a surplus of £60 left over. Can he make us a really basic, letter based - "Thanks Jack" flag for 60 quid?
perthblue02 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Just basic flags (blue and white halves, Checks etc) always look good amongst statement flags and should be easy and cheapish to pick up
Ben-2000 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Yes, I'm sure something can be sorted with the remaining... one way or another it will all go towards flags
Neal Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Made a small donation myself but will donate further on pay day. The motto Small Town... Big History with every major trophy we have won and year it was won (we have dropped the image of buildings to focus more on the silverware). Good idea. Can you imagine a relatively thin and long banner saying: MOST SUCCESSFUL TOWN CLUB IN THE WORLD cup cup cup cup cup cup cup cup cup cup cup cup Needs to go on a stand fascia like Tottenham's messages. We have 12 Cups, next town Club has only 5. We are 12th in English League, with Wolves and Forest just above us(they are Cities) Love this idea.
mhead Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Yes ....what about my idea guys. Give more money to the 80 quid we have left over. OR tell me how much extra you need, get permission for hanging it on the Jack Walker Stand and let me see it every time I take my seat on the Riverside!! MAKE ME HAPPY! MOST SUCCESSFUL TOWN CLUB IN THE WORLD Campaign
Mike Graham Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 I wonder which away clubs will allow Rovers fans to take these flags to their grounds next season?
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I'd say keep the fundraising going. There's no point in ending it now just when the club has got on board and the success of the campaign so far is starting to filter through to the wider fanbase. Let fans see the first few flags and you'll get loads more money donated. Enough to cover the ground like at Man U and Chelsea. I'd keep plugging the donation page on here (and everywhere else its being mentioned) too. Makes it easier to get the impulsive donations if the site address is right there easy to find.
Baz Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I'd say keep the fundraising going. I agree, Ben - can you alter the fundraising page, so the target is higher? otherwise people may not donate.
Claytons Left Boot Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 A few points. Do we know yet where the flags are to be placed? What size are they? If you look at the photo in koi's post (second post on page one) the flags at Wigan Warriors are along the top of the South Stand near the walkway/gantry. There are 22 of them - I counted them at the last home game. There is also a We Are Wigan banner summat like 15ft x 3ft. Without looking at a photo of the Blackburn End, I'm not sure we have a similar gantry or if ours can be put up there, although it would be pretty cool if they could. How about asking fans if they could donate their own flags to the cause? There must be loads stored away in folks houses. I have a Darwen Blues flag of St George that I would happily donate together with a Norwegian flag with BRFC on it. They are both around 6ft x 6ft. I remember an absolutely massive flag in Ankara that may have had Great Harwood on it - it was huge and surely there are others that could be donated. I am certainly past the age where I want to lug flags around, especially to away games!
Ben-2000 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 £455. A third large flag not so far off at this rate! Yes - I think it's probably a good idea to keep it going
Ben-2000 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 As stated earlier in this thread... The fundraiser etc has not been set up by me but I said I would help out where I can, that has included keeping you guys updated. The plan as I understand it is to have these flags on poles so they are waved/held up in amongst the crowd. As it is looking like more flags will be purchased we could look at doing future one's to be hung up. Someone has suggested elsewhere draping them from the empty Darwen End upper over the home section. I would certainly be willing to help facilitate this if people want there's hanging up. It would probably need 4 or 5 to fill that half of the stand.
Ben-2000 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Sadly this particular fundraiser will have to end tomorrow to allow time for the funds to be transferred over from Crowdfunding. This is to be sure that everything is done in time for the Huddersfield game. However having a more permanent page with easier withdrawal access is an option, perhaps a PayPal account. Will post details when that has been done. I think this is something people would like to see as an ongoing project, sounds like a good idea to me!
No Nay Never Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 This one seems to be popular... was posted on a Rovers Facebook page following suggestions. Any thoughts? That is brilliant
VinjayV4 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I can't send pms on here anymore (mainly my own fault) so... Thought about donating but decided to save the money for something else Rovers related. There's already a Jack flag so its probably slightly pointless to have another even if it said "think BIG". Though as Robert Coar said in 2000 no amount of tributes could ever do justice to Jack's achievements. Apart from the "small town" reference all good though! Thought my FUP suggestion (for first use at Forest for obvious reasons) was good too though there's nothing else I particularly want to see on a flag. Not something people would go for anyway... Sure there will be other crowdfunds in the future where I can contribute something more meaningful.
Mike Graham Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 I have one of the "Legends" t-shirts from 3 or 4 years ago with a brilliant iconic outline of Simon Garner on it scoring for Rovers. That design would make a great flag.
