Financial Unfair Play (Fup)

Recommended Posts

Agreed. It appears that FUP rules are tackling annual club losses rather than overall debt. Probably to avoid upsetting Manchester United. I expect that leveraged buy-outs are perfectly legal so it would be difficult to outlaw.

I certainly agree that if a rich owner wants to pump his own money into a club, and not issue loans or mortgage any player contracts against future income then they should be allowed to. It's every football fan's dream that a Jack Walker rocks up - probably why everyone hates us.

Or anyone else since who's been the subject of a major takeover though too many fans play the "hate" card. United scoring a full scale victory with FUP would be their ultimate revenge over clubs like Rovers who have stood up to them. Every club should fight it but Rovers should be near the very top if not at the very top. I don't want to rant about Jack's wishes but there couldn't be the slightest justification to suggest he wouldn't be vehemently anti-FUP. In all fairness not like I had flowers flown to his gravesite and made a huge deal of it by plastering it all over a website for PR purposes.

Of course United complain about other clubs having benefactors yet whine when the Glazers milk them for profit.

No punches pulled with this headline...though it is a few months old...

Manchester United owners the Glazer family are 'the evil of football', say Sunday Supplement panel

Once again mentioning the bleaker prospects of Newcastle, Villa, Everton, etc in being taken over. Since the foundations of FUP were laid in 2009 its no wonder Anderson was hired (perhaps in 2009 and definitely in 2010) to seek buyers for Rovers. Of course Rothschild were appointed earlier and that didn't really seem to lead anywhere.

I know people might not like me dragging the thread up (though its not like I'm posting 10+ times a day in this thread) but FUP is nothing short of a cancer to football.

If this had happened in the early 90's hopefully Jack would have sued the hell out of them in the very highest supreme European courts. I wish Abramovich, Mansour, etc would team up and blow the crooked cretins apart.

WE HATE FUP, SAY WE HATE FUP!

Sounds like something the mafia would do. The authorities only apply FUP to clubs they know won't fight it, and don't want to really deal with basket case clubs like QPR.

There's different kinds of organised crime syndicates like the ones featured in this case...

Now that Platini has been exposed and deposed, maybe they will realise that FUP only benefits the big clubs and revise it, particularly below the top leagues.

Infantino wins FIFA election but at least he's out of UEFA. Hopefully he won't try and enforce some form of FIFA FUP. (Not that there hasn't been FUP aka general corruption at FIFA for years)

Why not just ignore FUP and build a super club in spite of the rules?

Nottingham Forest meet Football League to discuss FUP embargo

First article offers an interesting if somewhat unlikely way to combat FUP if it takes more time to collapse completely. The owner of Forest personally met up with the Football League whereas Rovers probably sent Derek Shaw...enough said. Galatasaray are also appealing their European suspension.

Extremely quiet week for FUP other than quotes from the Forest owner. If anyone intends to attend at least 1 away game between now and the end of the season Forest might be the best option. Seems like the perfect time for both fans to possibly take part in anti-FUP chants, etc considering both clubs have suffered because of it.

I wouldn't say we suffered because of fup, more like we suffered because of the total incompetence of our club's management who failed to either comply with it or get round it. I'm not a big fan of it as it just ended up giving big clubs a way of pulling up the ladder after themselves but in our case it probably saved us from more ridiculous spending by the idiots who run our club.

One of Lambert's other reported options in November, Queens Park Rangers have plans to slash their playing budget this summer. Considering what they have spent this may have been a decision taken even if FUP didn't exist.

Junior Hoilettt on £40k per week. I thought he was just about to sign his new contract for us, before that offer came along! Surely we didn't have someone telling the fans lies did we?

At Forest there is takeover interest from the owner of Olympiakos. Quite unexpected considering their FUP status.

Ahead of the City v PSG clash here's a story on how both clubs were almost "kicked out" of the CL in 2014 by FUP.
