Absolutely brilliant

H-Division all got married and had kids about 1985 so no chance of them turning up and the Toolbar  never existed, so no chance of them turning out either, no wonder they're disappointed.

250 handed in the blob shop on a Tuesday afternoon, poor sods, I couldn't think of anything worse! imagine the toilets

They spent a days leading up to game ringing up the The station pub and beehive pubs threatening the locals which was amusing, it was like going back to the 80's all over again.

Funny thing is the local mob was quite active at the time, but just never bothered with Preston that night.

Our mob (Me the Mrs and brother in law) drank out of the way before the game at deepdale before Christmas, no PNE to be seen, we Made our way into town, loads of police and Blackburn but no PNE, arrived at the ground same time as the police escort of Blackburn lads who were stood in the middle of the road, police with batons drawn and PNE not wanting to know, Preston must have been avoiding Blackburn and our mob like the plague that day, they just didn't want to know

From what I remember being in the paper I think they got a bit of a warm welcome at a pub somewhere. So much so that a few van loads went back a few weeks later to even the score -- when Rovers were away somewhere. That might have been the league game years later though.

The lad who wrote that sounds like one of those who would end up getting a taxi to the wrong venue for a pre arranged rumble, not on purpose of course

Probably a generation thing as the younger guys I've come across don't seem bitter but like Burnley their peers spout to them tales of bulldust and myths. Some of them are bound to end up buying into it whereas from our end they're just irrelevant probably to anyone who doesn't live in the border areas.

Read the first post from today.

As said before, strange, strange bunch.

Lol. What a numpty. Still it does get you in the mood for writing fiction I suppose.

21st November 2016 - PRESTON AWAY (The truth, the whole truth and maybe some slightly exaggerated truth)

Tickets had been selling well long before Bowyer departed and Lambert had arrived. Once PL was confirmed, the remainder sold out in a matter of days. Over 5000 of the blue army travelling west to face Nob End. We met at the Postal order around about 9.30am. There were 5 of us in our group. By 9.30am the police had entered the pub and rumours were rife of searches at Blackburn station and of fans being forced into a cordon once arriving at the other side. Not us. Our day was all about taking down Preston and taking down Preston good. We were getting a taxi cab !

The taxi dropped us off near the university just after lunch and the five of us strolled brash as we liked up Friargate. We weren't behind no police lines here. We were walking through the heart of Nob End territory and no-one was going to stop us. First we popped into O'Neills hoping to see other likeminded Blues but no. The place was dripping with Preston. We played it quite cool stood at the bar but they knew who we were. You could tell by the look in their eye, they knew. One student type with a fruit cider came up to me at the bar and I got into a conversation about Derek Shaw with him. I knew I was outing myself and my gang but I also knew my gang had my back. Strangely this guy and myself both agreed that Shaw was a bit of a snake and talked sensibly for a while before we decided to make our exit.

Next was the Lamb and Packet. This was a little quieter than O'Neills but this looked more local. Their eyes set upon us as soon as we walked in the door. However I wasn't playing games in here. A couple of us grabbed the only available table whilst the rest went over to the bar. No sooner had they got there when I shouted across "Dave, have you got the tickets? It's a long way back to Blackburn if you haven't". Silence. Probably because everyone was watching the United game but silence never the less. We had a couple of pints in there. It was clear that we were top dogs in this gaff. We even braved the pisser in singles. That's how hard we were.

Finally we crossed to the Adelphi. Close to 2pm, this place was much busier. Again the 5 of us walked in, pushed our way to the front of the bar and got a few refreshers in. We'd been in quite a while talking openly about Rovers with no bother. Surely word had got around that we were outside the cordon, free from the escort and bringing it. But nothing. We'd just started to think this was a cakewalk when we froze. We finally heard it. The Preston roar. The Nobbers Noise. It seemed like there was eruption everywhere. We turned and braced ourselves for the charge. We were ready. 5 hardy souls waiting for it.

But it didn't come. It turned out all of the Lillywhites were cheering because Man United had scored. Ecstatic they were. What a strange bunch.

Victorious, we left the pub and headed to the ground to see the mighty Rovers win. As far as I can remember about the game, some Nobber turned it in his own net and then Jordan decided that he wanted to. It was the first away game we had won that wasn't at Elland Road since the previous March, which tells you how poor Preston were. What a day.

So that's basically like a tale from any big following going to any local game and I don't remember any 'show' from Preston in their town centre when we've been over there. From what I remember the Blob shop was always where away fans gathered in town anyway and the so called firms he's quoted are from a book about hooligans from the 60's and 70's I think. What a plant pot.

Also if there was never any action with Rovers then why did these older lads have a score to settle ? Typical plastic hooligan nonsense.

Perhaps he wants an audition for Eastenders

Great post Hasta! Went to Preston away. My two kids, my mate and his two kids. Parked on a working men's club 100 yards from the ground. Went in. Had a pint. Half Rovers / half Preston inside. Afterwards I got back in my car and drove everyone home. There was absolutely zero bother, in fact we were made very welcome. Just how it should be.

That's chapter 7 in my book. Working title - "Nothing happened, again".

Or...

"So I turned up in Preston, six of us, all ready for the off. We had four Youth in tow. All a bit lively. I told em to curb it, turn it down you slags I shouted. They just giggled. We went straight to their club, where all their old boys are. Nothing. Not even a sneer. We paid a pound each in, nothing for the Youth. Wouldn't dare ask the three girls. The boy just gave him a stare and a well hard smile. We took the place over, one other geezer won the pre match raffle. We were taking massive liberties."

I know there have been mutterings about the police changing the kick-off time for this game. BUT I heard this game was actually brought forward to give all the plastic Prestoners plenty of time to get settled in the pub for Liverpool Tottenham (1730).

One of the few games ive seen at ewood was pne in a night cup game.Enjoyed a few beers in the pub by the bridge and left in plenty of time for the game.

Walked into a big melee outside and took a cowards hit to the back of my head.Being a 18 stone kiwi i did not take kindly to this and proceeded to give the coward a taste of a dunedun medicine.

Low and behold the police turn up and arrest me.At the police station i showed my passport and gave my side of the story which was backed up by a fellow rovers fan.Give the police there due they let me go and gave me a lift back to the game.

Funny thing was i was staying in preston and on the train home was a sheepish coward.

Because of our mates group dynamic of Preston and rovers fans doing hospitality. Has anybody been before? In which case does anyone know hospitality kicks off if match starts at 12.30 - rovers haven't even sent details/tickets yet!

Before I go on too much of a rant and call us a shambles and tin pot club another thing post venkys we have let standards plummet on it may be separate from the club but thoroughly poor show with less than a week to go.

I have been to quite a few matches home and away with hospitality packages and nearly all are done through a sports managment group and the club gets a payment from them and they handle the tickets we usualy get them the week of the match.

Not lived in the area for 20 odd years and tbh haven't thought about PNE since then. I can honestly say I have never met a PNE fan since I worked there in the late 80s. It was a funny place though I always thought. The people in the office I worked in generally did support PNE plus AN other team from the North West. I'm not just saying that, it was true. Personally I have no feelings one way or the other about them and am looking forward to the game.

I thought they hated Blackpool anyway, don't know how they have the energy to bother hating anyone else with the same venom.
