Not lived in the area for 20 odd years and tbh haven't thought about PNE since then. I can honestly say I have never met a PNE fan since I worked there in the late 80s. It was a funny place though I always thought. The people in the office I worked in generally did support PNE plus AN other team from the North West. I'm not just saying that, it was true. Personally I have no feelings one way or the other about them and am looking forward to the game.

'It was then that I knew that the "all Manchester United fans come from the South" retort was just a myth'

The stuff of legends one might say - or at least those that have spent any amount of time in Preston. For what you say is correct - those big Premier league teams playing on those big screens in those Preston pubs brought goal celebrations from the locals that I hadn't seen since Michael Owen scored against Argentina back in World Cup 1998.

It seriously has to be experienced to be believed. But it is completely true. I rather suspect the majority of Plastic Prestoners coming to this game are looking for an 8am pub opening as they desperately need the alcohol to try and mask a secret admiration for a team that long adorned those aforementioned big screens and to help create (in their minds at least) some kind of false rivalry.

Whereas in the cold light of day I rather suspect that most of them will be much more bothered about the possibility of Man United not making 4th place than a defeat at Ewood.

3-1 Rovers it is! :brfc: :tu:.... and a few nervous hours for those thousands of away fans awaiting the Man City and WHam results.

A win would be a minor tonic for the continued horror and uncertainty of the Venky's reign. Surely we're better than PNE? All our internationals came back sound and the likes of Graham have had time to nurse their injuries. I hope we smash 'em and send their 7000 fans home with their tails between their legs. C'mon the Rovers.

Aggh! I forgot about Hanley's suspension. Duffy and Ward, then. Should be enough!

Have a soft spot for Preston given family connections with the place so for me, this is just another Championship game.

Sadly, I think they are going to do us by the odd goal to round off a miserable week for Rovers' fans. Sadly, I really fear the cracks appearing in key things Rovers are about to become chasms.

it's good to see the doom and gloom merc is back. :-)

It's the day before the game and, despite being busy on the messageboard this aft, there has not been a post on this thread for 4 hours.

Meanwhile, over on PNobE-online, they've just started their 13th thread on the game.

It's a cup final for one side !

That's because the over zealous mod deleted 'em, when me and Gav were reminding the Nobbers of our play off adventures and crowds in the 80's.

2 - 0 Rovers (Graham, Watt)

Biggest crowd of the season 20,137.

Aside from the two ex Rovers in their team I would struggle to name any more (although to be fair most Nobbers could say the same about us). Anything less than a win will disappoint me and a Burnley like performance with the same intensity and pressing should see us over the line. I hope the nasty small man syndrome sufferer gets sent off because he got away with murder in November.

The referee today has a tendency to be lenient which might help them more than us.

Apparently we have to applaud that girl who took an overdose today. I don't mean to be insensitive, but why the hell should I?

As tragic as it is, it's nowt to do with football or Rovers. A minutes silence pre-match should be the only tribute used and used for deceased former players only.

There's a tribute every other match these days. There is a time and a place for these things and it's not during a match at Ewood Park.

Just read on their forum that Blacburn is already taken.

The Postal Order is a sea of vomit and the windows of MacDonalds were smashed using the heads of Rovers fans.

Hoping for three nil, with the third coming from Duffy followed by a swan dive into the back row of the Blackburn end.

How good would that be?

He'd have to leap like a salmon at Stainforth Force on Jump Sunday to pull that off! Bring it on Scruffy!!

Just for the record I hope someone 'does' Garner at some stage, that little **** deserves a set of studs down the calf, I'd take a sending off late on for that.
