[Archived] England 1966 World Cup Winners But Watt Benched

Recommended Posts

Whats(Watts)the connection? Attitude. Anyone who watched England win the 1966 World Cup on fuzzy black& white t.v.with Kenneth Wolstenholme commentating as I did,....will know England displayed massive incentive to win the World Cup. Alan Ball ran his socks off. Of course, most England players wouldnt need much incentive as they were playing in the most important match of their lives.

I know Lambert is a Scot(as is Watt) but one thing Lambert seems to require from his players is attitude. Hence Brown is regularly playing,in spite of never scoring(or even having a shot in anger). Tony Watt who has hit the ground running, scoring in the F.A.Cup isnt getting similar game time.....why? This lad has scored against Barcelona in the Champions League after all, something few footballers have on their c.v.

Previous managers have described issues with Watt in terms of fitness and attitude. Hes already been around quite a few clubs already for a young lad............apparently pencilled in as a £1.5 million signing from Charlton Athletic at end of the season, when his loan period expires.

Wasnt even brought on when we needed a goal, against Derby 1-0 down. Thoughts?

These lads have to prove themselves on the training ground before they get picked so presumably he doesn't look right or his attitude is wrong. If Lambert has seen something he doesn't like presumably Watt won't at the club very long. Either way, it is baffling because in theory he's got more potential than any of the other deadbeats we signed in January.

This guy is known for having fitness and attitude issues, the two no doubt go hand in hand, so it's no surprise when rumours of his lack of application start doing the rounds. Why bother with the goon in the first place, oh yeah we are desperate. I really hope it is a try before you buy and not a done deal by some agent and Shaw getting someone on our books AGAIN that no one else really wants or at least is prepared to invest any money in.

Strange that Lambert is leaving him benched after all the talking him up and us so desperate up front. Hope he's not dropped a clanger already.

If it's a loan with an option to buy, then surely it would be as easy as not taking up the option to buy if we didn't like what we saw? Maybe it isn't that easy, I don't work in football of course, but it sounds as though if we aren't happy, then we've no obligation!

Just think back to the Varney and DJ scenarios, both useless both hardly played yet both walked straight into a contract when their loan times were up. I still hope he comes good but he needs mins on the pitch otherwise it's pointless him even being here really.
