Nick Robinson in Sunderland: "Many people come out to vote for the first time since 1983 and voting Leave because they want to kick the Establishment".

Very odd concept - the way to kick the Establishment and the Elite is to vote Labour.

What was Nissans stance on the referendum vote? Did the local population in Sunderland go against their stance? Nissan is a huge employer in that area.

That's the daft thing - "they kick the Establsihment" by voting Leave and then lose their jobs as Nissan move to Poland.

How weird it would be to leave the EU because it rained...

Would be typically English..

Actually Nissan wrote to all of its employees urging them to vote remain.. never tell a Brit what to do, always will end in suffering.

Really really getting sick of hearing Labour politicians ranting about it being all about the conservatives and how it is their fault..... Labour wanted Remain and it is typically labour areas voting leave.

Lots of talk of protest votes, due to Tories hitting the poorest especially in the North.

Pity they didn't vote in the general election, the Tories never made a secret of what they'd do!

Pound has just fallen off a cliff. Its going to get much much worse in the coming days.

If the UK is serious about the EU then the @#/? should join the Euro and stop making it an expensive pain in the ass for us travellers. The @#/? @#/?!

No surprise to hear Milliband trying (ridiculously I might add) to somehow transform a decision about EU membership into an anti-Conservative government vote. And equally unsurprising to hear the BBC gobble it up like the biased bunch of ingrates they are.

People care about immigration! Does that have to be nailed to the fat heads of the Labour political elite and lefty media before they acknowledge it's the case? It's practically comical hearing the BBC coverage team scrabble for alternatives such as "people are angry with their lives" and other patronising rubbish.

I can only assume there is no stomach or backbone amongst the political left for confronting the admittedly thorny issue of immigration and so there will be a continuing hemorraging of voters, particularly in the north of England. So it's a case of pretend it isn't real and maybe eventually it won't be.

Fine I guess, if that's the approach. Just makes for surreal viewing watching some complex hastily-produce social commentary about Newcastle and Sunderland instead of just saying maybe Corbyn's pee'd people off royally with his no-immigration cap proclamation.

Exactly. Where were all these "anti-Establishment" voters last May ? Voting Tory last May and then voting Leave because you want to kick the elite must be the height of hypocrisy.

Cameron was stupid to call this referendum because the issues are at stake are too difficult for most people to understand. He deserves to get kicked out whichever way the vote goes.

How would joining the single currency make it cheaper to travel? Surely we would be around a 25% worse off?

That was interesting what Alex Salmond just said that there was an option "to put a four county lock" on any result. So Eng, Sco, Wal and Nor Ire would all have to vote out. First time i have heard about that.

Now it looks like leave may sneak it they will change the rules.

Maybe a lot of those people DID vote Tory BECAUSE of the referendum promise?

Ie: vote Tory for a chance to vote out, then just vote Labour after that?

Are you purposely ignoring that the Labour party is being included in the "establishment" ? Ignoring people and issues is the problem and does not just apply to the Tories. The warning signs have been there even when your mates champagne Tony and Gordon the bankers friend were running the shop.

Because I seem to have spent thousands in currency fees/inter currency bank charges etc. during the last several years.

Typical soft bellied UK being all half-arsed about things. Either commit 100% or get the @#/? out the dilly dallying @#/?!

Don't be daft. The Conservative party is the party of the elite, the establishment, the company bosses, the wealthy.

Interesting that the 2 words I've not heard in the entire referendum campaign are:

Protest Vote

If we do leave, it shows just how out of touch politicians really are.

I'd like to see him try. There's an option to take himself, Sturgeon and the rest of their anti-English muppets back north of the border, and I'm starting to think it's a real shame that the Scots haven't already voted to do just that.

I've never been to a political rally but personally I'll turn into an activist overnight if Leave wins and some uppity dictator like Salmond attempts to deny democracy. And I'd hope 16 million people would join me.

So a mini EU then?

He did say it was an option that could have been applied before the referendum was called but Cameron rejected it.

In same boat really as have a place in Spain so always transferring money over. Single currency would make paying the mortgage on it very expensive if £1 - a euro. So leave and no worry about single euro although I'd then lose some of my current rights as an EU member!

Jesus. Why are people getting stressed here....only another 16 odd million needed. LOL!

Are you guys staying up for the whole thing? I'm bored already.

I can't watch anymore, don't think my nerves could take it. What will be will be but its going to be a tough few years for this country with a lot of people losing their jobs.

That's the way referenda are conducted here Perth.

To get it over the line it has to be a majority of voters in a majority of states. So if one state has a majority against, thats it, even though a majority of voters overall may have voted in the affirmative.

I hope all the Leavers realise that both factions of the Tory party have clearly stated that they will use Brexit as an excuse to impose even more of their socially and economically destructive austerity idelogy.

The pro-Remain chancellor Osborne has promised a "punishment budget" full of more austerity measures should the public dare to defy him and vote for Brexit.

Meanwhile the pro-Leave Tory MP Duncan Smith has said that even more savage Tory austerity is a "price worth paying" for Brexit - which is easy for him to say, because he clearly won't be the one paying that price.
