We may be seeing why he can't get a game at Sunderland and why there wasn't any major competition for his signature in January. We desperately need a creative player and he's had his moments, but over the course of the season I'm not sure we can afford a luxury player in the salary bracket Gomez will likely be a part of.

Sunderland letting him go in the situation they're in says a lot. He's the sort of player that will shine when other players have got the team on top in a game but he'll never get you on top himself.

At this moment, DE, I'm inclined to agree. I'm not writing the guy off, because I was drooling over his skills after his first run of games and I really hope he comes good again. However, (it might have been you who suggested it after the Ipswich game), someone like Charlie Adam would be mint. He can put it about and has a keen eye for a pass or dead ball. When the passes aren't coming off from him, he'll still get involved in the rough stuff.

We played a lot better after going down to 10. I honestly thought that we wouldn't have won without the red card.

We need the ability to change our approach without a sending off.

The fans' backing seemed to inspire the players in the last 30 mins, and then team and fans fed off each other til the 96th minute.

I'd rather go with a fortune favours the brave approach for the rest of the season.

I think you're right there, and over a 46 game slog where a lot of games are tightly contested that type of player will disappear too regularly to be useful. It's a shame because without him we likely lose or at best draw that game with the MK Dons. He has the ability, but appears to be let down by consistency.

I've not mentioned Adam, but you're right, that would be the ideal type of player. Unfortunately they're hard to come by and the vast majority are plying their trades in leagues above ours!

I am of course jubilant about our brilliant victory.

I am also thoroughly sick of Lambert's approach away from home.

With the possible exception of the Burnley game, we haven't played well in a single away game since the arrival of our management team.

We don't appear to have gone into any away fixture with the definite intention of really going for it.

I believe a more positive approach would have produced at least 6 more away points as our quality-lite, long ball, don't lose philosophy has abjectly failed to reap sufficient rewards.

I know we haven't had the personnel to play the same team every week but we could have chosen to play more of a passing, on the deck, patient style, rather than the aimless, clearing, punt it up approach.

Yes, I know, bad timing, but facts are facts, just ask the poor souls that have been to all 14 or 15 games.

Right, back to my celebrations.

Woo-hoo! Dufffffyyyyy!!!!

Preston game will be a cracker, esp without our captain.

COYB.

Middlesbrough was good. I don't think it's by design, I'm surprised you do

That was me (regarding Adam) I think, can't think of another player we could realistically get that I feel would improve us 100%... He would, he'd be safe money and exactly the sort of player we need.

It seems to me that Paul Lambert wants a team of real battlers, he probably, quite rightly imo, thinks it's the only way we will get out of this league.

Watching the young lads last night, the second half in particular, I'm pretty sure he's also had an effect on them too, they battled to the end, even

against obviously superior opposition.

I liked Lambert from day one, he's a winner !

Different kind of player but I'm still convinced that the out of contract Hoolahan is going to trap up here come the season end. He'll be ideal for that 'diamond tip' role for a season IMO.

If Norwich get relegated it wouldn't surprise me if they retain him, they can probably offer him a very nice deal for an extra year.

A mate has just sent me a link to the goal and celebration- http://www.snappytv.com/tc/1578619/717020

As for those splitting hairs, we won, you only get 3 points however they come! Get in there!!!!!!!

That's how to celebrate. :) Amazed by the negativity.

Down to 10, awful scrappy game and we steal it, with a belter from an unlikely scorer.

Away wins for us are as rare as rocking horse sh1t.

Everyone should enjoy it.

I agree about grafters getting you out of the league. You'd have to be a bloody good team to carry anybody who's not these days.

What a celebration! Think it's a joke that referee's yellow card players for showing a bit of passion.

Defo worth a yellow for dangerous play alone, imagine how much a flying 6'4" Irishman weighs, he could have killed the guys he landed on. :)
