[Archived] English Squad - Summer 2016

First time turkey scored against England in their history. Surprising stat. Even San Marino took the lead against us after 8 seconds in 93/94 ish.

Stuart Ripley's one and only cap I think.

I've not seen anything tonight to change my mind about England. Needs someone in central defence to take control of things. Too much uncertainty in there. We're not a bad side all told. But still think we're short of being good enough to win it. Be surprised if we make it far into the latter stages.

Do think Alli has got it all though. Terrific player.

Fair play to Turkey, really played for the win. On balance unlucky to lose.

As for England really confirmed what we already know. Decent attacking players, but seriously lacking in quality in defence. Also concerning that despite having decent technical players on the pitch we really struggled to hold onto the ball.

I get the feeling we will go for a very attacking 442 diamond to make the most of Vardy, Kane, Rooney, Alli and Wilshire. However while we might get away with it against Turkey better teams will punish our lack of defensive shape.

@#/? sake the negative crap comes back about England on this forum despite the fact we won, some great forward play at times, defence is suspect yes but hart IS a top keeper, I'm just glad the game is over because the Turks are a bunch of filthy animals, its not about performances at this stage, its about game time, we had a great pre world cup and where did we end up? Out in the group stage, get a grip ffs

The attendance for "non league finals day" (fa trophy/fa vase) at Wembley was 46,781 and the attendance for England vs turkey was 44,866. Technically the non league job had 4 teams worth of fans but it's ridiculous more people were watching a non league football event on the same day as were watching the national team.

With luck he will be jailed for inciting religious hatred before Euro 2016 even kicks off.

We went to the Etihad yesterday. One thing which surprised me was the significant ethnic diversity of the crowd. Far more home fans clearly from other ethnic groups supporting England. Excellent to see and experience.

Yes, some of their tackles were appalling, if it was a competitive game they would have been down to ten men

Some of their tackles were a bit heavy but to be honest we need competitive games to prep for the Euros. 90 minutes of strolling round the pitch is not much use. I'd rather all our warm up games are as competitive as the Turks made it. Roy has some big choices to make in terms of XI, formation and tactics.
