Who would be in your top five strikers for Rovers in the last twenty years? We've had some good ones; and some dross too

1. Shearer

2. Bellamy

3. Cole

4. Jansen

5. Santa Cruz

Might be between Benny McCarthy and Santa Cruz for fifth but other than that you can probably close the thread having answered your own question (in the timeframe suggested).

Pongolle, a guy who made only 10 Apps on loan and scored the 1 goal, above Bellers, McCarthy and the Yak?

WTF?

He's a personal favourite. My whole family follow Liverpool so I watch alot of their games so I liked him before he joined us and that goal was a diving header was a beaut

Plus I did say my favorites not how good they are lol

Bellamy was pure class. Shearer was different gravy. The rest are not quite in the same league with the exception of potentially Santa Cruz (Cole was not at his best when he joined us but was phenomenal for Newcastle and the red scum).

I can't believe I can't squeeze Jansen in there. We have been blessed with some real quality strikers though.

Can't believe Speedie hasn't got a mention. Maybe not as technically gifted, but the impact he had in such a short Rovers career, was memorable.

Shearer

sutton

Jansen

Gallagher(no joke, he was real class in his final few seasons with us)

Bellamy, The Yak, Santa, Cole And Benni All had great 1st seasons for us

Gallacher or Gallagher (Kevin or Paul)?

Anyway:

Shearer

Jansen

Santa Cruz

McCarthy

Bellamy

Honourable mention for Cole (brought the best out of Jansen and Stead)

That was over 20 years ago, so he doesn't qualify.

Frighteningly it's nearer 30 years ago!

5. McCarthy/Santa Cruz (can't choose between them)

Honorary mentions to Newell, The Yak, and Cole.

And it would be remiss not to at least include Rhodes on the bench.

The top 5 more or less speak for themselves and I can't think that there would be too many deviations from it if you were around for all of the 20 year period, with maybe that 5th spot open to 3 or 4 players.

My list was based particularly on the question being framed as top strikers for Rovers, as opposed to stop strikers period (Cole would definitely have got in) or potential top strikers (Jansen might have got in).

As it is, I'd class Jansen as a bracket below Bellamy, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Sutton, Gallacher, Cole (who in turn were all a bracket below Shearer). Jansen for me ranks alongside Rhodes and possibly the Yak as good Championship season/pretty good PL season. Its miles easier scoring goals in the Championship so taking off the nostalgic specs, I don't rate Jansen massively for that. 2001/02 he scored 10 in 35 in the PL, compared to Cole with 9 in 15 that season. Know Jansen was a number 10 so its not all about scoring but whilst very good, for me he doesn't rank alongside the others in my top 5-7.
