[Archived] Season Ticket Prices 2016/17

Recommended Posts

As I've said before, there is a mock up in the board room of the "new" Riverside, shelved during JW's years as we couldn't fill what we had, even in the PL.

As for those that think it is ok to just move those of us in the FS on, without so much as a chat, is disgusting, and you should be ashamed.

It's a sign of the times. They are putting up prices, to watch an inferior product. I do not want to sit where they have ear marked. I don't want to sit in the JW stand at all.

They have lost 2 ST holders in one fell swoop. I'm doing an Abbey.....not going till they've gone.

The way they have done it is wrong - and a huge PR gaff - but even if they had spoken to you and explained the reasons for doing it - would it have made any difference to how you feel ?

I dont always attend, but when i do i find it a mind numbingly dull affair off the pitch, ;m in fsvour of anything that shakes things up a little, people are just stubborn and set in their ways.

People have given all sorts of legitimate reasons why they don't want to move and al you can come up with is that you want a change, although you never sit there anyway. Unbelievable!

Possibly not but with some people it might, especially if theyd invited them in early to look at what they envisaged and to try out the seats as happened at Perth glory. It's not what you do necessarily but how you make people feel that is important.

I would have had a damn sight more respect. As it is they have alienated a fan of 40 years. They can't explain it because the absolute bulls*it they have sent me is just that. The reason they are doing it is because our stay-away owners have overseen a train wreck in less than 6-years. That's the reason. Ruining the club, this is more of the same.

Anyway I've written very politely to Mr Cheston, telling him what i think of the plans, the lack of consultation, the emphasis on the global public over the loyal fans. I've admitted that I probably have no right to complain as I no longer sit there with my children but outlining my reasons for preferring to sit there. I don't know if I'll send it but just the writing of it makes me feel better.

Personally im in favour of these changes, i think a shuffling of the pack is long of due and also ive always found it strange that the tv gantry wasnt moved to the riverside long long ago.

Could you add more meat on these bones. Or are you being contrary, Mary.

It was the Frank Whittle Partnership from Preston who drew up the plans. They are doing the new stand at Accy and also designed Dumpdale.

I don't know the ins and outs to be honest but I know people who worked at MPM Adams / Capita Properties at the end of the 90's who told me that they had seen the 'finalised' plans (and that the river was problematic). Not sure how they came across them. Would love to know what the full scale of the redevelopment was to have been.

i was just giving my opinion as a non st holder that has no real preference to where i sit as long as it's relatively cheap, i totally get the reasons why some are unhappy, I hardly think it's the end of the world though either way.

Two alternate scenarios:

Appoint a respectable ambitious manager and allow him to bring in his own staff (or keep hold of the one we had until recently by operating professionally)

Let that man get on with the job to the best of his abilities by giving him control over football operations

Back that man with a reasonable Championship budget

If you are considering making changes to the season ticket arrangement at Ewood Park follow there are two ways of approaching it:

Plan A

  • In around January or February, write a letter to all affected season ticket holders in the Blackburn End Upper tier informing them that a relocation of the Family Stand is being considered for next season
  • Invite all affected fans to a meeting where a senior member of staff can have a presentation to explain the various merits and reasons for making the change and options considered
  • Over a period of a month or so, invite affected people to submit their views on a form
  • Clearly if several hundred people are strongly opposed to the proposal then an alternative may have to be found or some sort of compromise reached
  • If the anger is minimal then proceed with the plans and notify the fanbase of a final decision
  • Perhaps include some attempts to sweeten the deal by finding ways of keeping friends/groups seated together or incentives such as vouchers as compensation for the decision
  • Inform existing JW Lower season ticket holders of what is happening and alternatives for those people if they don't want to become surrounded by families and children next season.
  • Once a final decision is made, advertise it properly

Plan B

No manager

No board of directors

No word from absentee owners

15 players left after selling all decent quality

Linked to pathetic names in manager search after allowing decent manager to quit before his job had even started.

  • Silence
  • Silence
  • Silence
  • Then in mid May, by which time every other Championship club has sold thousands of season tickets, let slip at a Fans Forum meeting that a decision has been made and the Family Area is moving next season
  • Member of Fans Forum then quite rightly passes this information on twitter to affected supporters
  • Fans Forum releases nonsensical statement of regret that this information was leaked by member
  • 2 days later affected people receive a letter confirming they are moving and that season tickets will be £20 more from next season, along with some tripe about the ground looking better for the 'global audience'. No consultation has taken place.
  • Its now 19th May and season tickets still aren't on sale

Which one of those courses represents a professional football club that cares about the wishes of its fans and which one is representative of a cowboy outfit that couldn't care less and treats its supporters like rubbish?

There was a fairly solid rumour that they were looking to rebuild the entire stand and include some form of health facility. Just cannot see where the gantry will go, the pillars are on about row 12ish, so they will have to be in front of this.

Yeah I think there was something floating about a few years ago but different than the original plans some are mentioning. A stand that didn't really increase the capacity but housed some complex or other.

It'll never happen we'll end up like Watford with that stand or half stand whatever it was closed for years.

You might as well send it to G.K.Chesterton LOL..."The Best of Chris Brown"?

I think this is a driven initiative from India to 'improve' the look of the ground on TV.

So twice a season plus 15 secs of weekly highlights that generally show opposition goals?

Moving the gantry will further obstruct the view of those at the back of the Riverside. More angry fans. More money wasted. Well done Rovers!

I assume they will build something on the roof? Probably cost more than shutting the stand down.

For those who are being asked to move to the JW Lower I sympathise. I have never sat there for a game because I once whatched a televised away game from there on the big screen and was appalled at the view.

Havent, heir been plans drawn up for for over 10 years about rebuildong the riverside stand(and also having and new train stop added up the hill behind the ground) could this not be the first steps into setting that in motion.

Are you being serious? If so you're bleeding bonkers

Had a season with my kids in JW Lower when first opened. Would not recommend anything below row 10 - even further back not great if you like a 'panoramic' view. Moved upstairs following season.

What kind of marketing genius decides to put season ticket prices up by £20 after one of the worst seasons in the last 40 years?

What kind of genius increases prices when the fan base is dwindling and boycotts are on the horizon?

What kind of genius increases prices in an era when clubs all around are decreasing prices? See Huddersfield and Wigan whose prices are at least £100 cheaper and the 'twentys-plenty' initiative in the premier league.

I think I may drop an email to cheston when the prices have been officially confirmed

The Rovers fanbase are a busted flush when it comes to making a stand I'm afraid. The now hold us in contempt and will do as they like.

The strategy now appears not to entice fans back but to group the remaining fans together in a nice stand, point the camera at them and pretend all is well, and crowds are up.

If there was anything about our fans, as a show of support, even the diehards should wait until the last minute to buy season tickets just to @#/? them up.

With much love to the FF who, by way of their apology to the club and not the fans) are complicit in this current strategy.

The only hope is that it is part of a concerted attempt to attract an overseas buyer and then they can @#/? off. I just hope they aren't a crap as Venkys.

I expect tomorrow Seneca will withdraw their offer just to compound our misery.

The Rovers fan base is like a battered partner. But the only way to stop being bullied is to walk away.

I can only urge those who are going to renew, to wait until the very last point they can to renew, as a manner of protest to the club.

It may scare them into considering Senecas bid.

What about the Lorena Bobbitt approach! That's what Venky's deserve...and I wouldn't give up on the fans just yet. They just need some leadership and something to unite behind...

I intend to. Can't see many people rushing to sign up.

We'll surely lose a couple of thousand initially.
