Gav Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 The journey down used to be full of hope and the football buzz. The journey back was the same, only slight dulled by a defeat. The M6 seems to have got longer now and the journey is one of anger, frustration and strange detachment, not improved by a victory. And the defeats seem to have stopped hurting, or at least they don't cut the through the pain that is already there. Sad days indeed. You know what BlueMonday, it will get better, the football club will rise again, it's much bigger than those charlatans in Pune. I've never felt like this about the Rovers before mate - and I've lived through some pretty bleak times as well. Maybe I'm just getting old and the 400 mile round trip is starting to take its toll.......
JHRover Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Someone needs to look at why our midweek form, particularly away from home, has been so dreadful. Not just this season, but ever since we were relegated. An away game in midweek usually means at best a point. It must be down to attitude/mentality. There's no other explanation for why it has been the same now for 4 years and 5 managers. A breakdown of our midweek fixtures on Monday to Friday since relegation: 2012-13 Hull home - won Barnsley home - won Middlesbrough home - lost Forest away - drawn Sheff Weds home - won Huddersfield away - drawn Bolton home - lost Cardiff home - lost Wolves away - drawn Brighton home - drawn Brighton away - drawn Hull away - lost Leicester away - lost Bolton away - lost Huddersfield home - won Millwall away - won Total of 16 games, Home = 8 games - 4 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats, 13 points from 24 Away = 8 games - 1 win, 4 draws, 3 defeats, 7 points from 24 Total of 16 games, 5 wins, 5 draws, 6 defeats - 20 points from 48. 2013-14 Doncaster away - lost Leicester away - lost Watford home - won Ipswich away - lost Barnsley away - drawn Bournemouth home - lost Watford away - drawn Brighton home - drawn QPR home - won Total games - 9 Home - 4 games, 2 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat- 7 points from 12 Away - 5 games, 3 defeats, 2 draws - 3 points from 15 Total of 10 points from 27 2014-15 Cardiff home - drawn Norwich away - lost Derby home - lost Rotherham away - lost Birmingham home - won Millwall away - drawn Derby away - lost Rotherham home - won Cardiff away - drawn Norwich home - lost Sheff Weds away - won Bolton home - won Brentford home - lost Birmingham away - drawn Millwall home - won Night games played = 15 Home = 8 played, 4 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats, 13 points from 24 Away = 7 played, 1 win, 3 draws, 3 defeats, 6 points from 21 Total of 15 games, 5 wins, 4 draws, 6 defeats, 19 points from 45. 2015-16 Cardiff home - drawn Bolton home - drawn QPR away - drawn Derby home - drawn Leeds away - won Birmingham away - drawn Rotherham home - won QPR home - drawn Fulham home - won Derby away - lost Middlesbrough home - won Birmingham home - won Ipswich away - lost Sheff Weds away - lost Night games played = 14 Home = 8 played, 4 wins, 4 draws, 0 defeats, 16 point from 24 Away = 6 played, 1 win, 2 draws, 3 defeats, 5 points from 18 Total of 14 games, 5 wins, 6 draws, 3 defeats, 21 points from 42. In total we've played 54 night league games since relegation. We've won 17, drawn 18 and lost 19. Very much mid table overall. Though away from home we've played 26 games, won 3, drawn 11 and lost 12. 20 points from a possible 78. Dreadful by any measure.

Rotherham and Doncaster away are amongst the worst performances I've ever seen from any team in blue and white. Shambolic they were! I feel bad for any fans that go to every away game, they are so rarely treated to a win!
Mattyblue Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Cheers for that JH. 3 wins out of 26 over four years. Bloody grim.
mhead Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Hanley,Lenihan and 4 other youngsters, including Mahoney and Tomlinson. Lose with honour and gain experience.
LewisF Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 ---------------Raya -Lowe Hanley Ward Kilgallon ----------Lenihan Evans Mahoney Tomlinson Marshall --------------Graham Don't know whether Tomlinson plays that advanced but I'd be looking to include him as well as Mahoney and Doyle

I feel bad for any fans that go to every away game, they are so rarely treated to a win! Rotherham and Doncaster were pretty bad. Ipswich this season was probably one of the worst football matches I have ever watched. Last season's collapse against 10 man Millwall having been 2-0 up with half an hour to play is up there as one of the worst capitulations ever seen. The moments of midweek joy away from home have been extremely rare, and I think its now set in as part of the culture of the club that fans and players almost seem to expect at best a point from these games when it is those teams that find a way to get those wins on the road on the cold nights that end up at the top.
Gav Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Cheers for that JH. 3 wins out of 26 over four years. Bloody grim. The away performances under Allardyce resulted in fans voting with their feet, and often less than 500 tickets were sold for far flung places like Anfield, Old Trafford and City of Manchester stadium. But having looked at the stats above I'm stunned the away support has remained as high as it has in the championship, can't find the averages so far but I'd guess over 1000, and we've only won 3 times out of 26 midweek games! Every fan deserves a medal after whats gone/going on, but my God the away fans deserve knighthoods, nothing but respect for the regulars Lets hope they can get a win for the fans tonight and make the journey home a joyous one for a change.
davulsukur Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 ---------------Raya -Lowe Hanley Ward Kilgallon ----------Lenihan Evans Mahoney Tomlinson Marshall --------------Graham Don't know whether Tomlinson plays that advanced but I'd be looking to include him as well as Mahoney and Doyle I think if there is anything positive left to salvage from this dreadful season, it will be to see one of our young lads taking their chance in the first team, with a view to seeing them make a push for a regular place in the squad next season. Mahoney and Tomlinson seemed to have dropped off the radar entirely after making impressions (albeit in about 45 seconds in Mahoney case) previously. Hopefully the 2 lads in tonight's squad will take their chances (if they get one)
AggyBlue Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Mahoney and Tomlinson seemed to have dropped off the radar entirely after making impressions (albeit in about 45 seconds in Mahoney case) previously. If they make the same impression that Lenihan has, I'll be well pleased.
punerover Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 They were the same players who won at home. To be fair, that was also to do with pricing. West Brom and their ilk often take 400 or so to Old Trafford and the like. By time of relegation it was pushing (or over) £40 a time. No longer an issue as we won't be going back any time soon and the new £30 pledge. I read a stat that said Wigan's average away following is now three times what it was in the PL.

Yes I'm sure cost does play a part Matty We had planned to go to the Wednesday game, but £60 for a meaningless game put the 2 of us off.
Mattyblue Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Some of the pricing in the Championship beggars belief. £30+ at Ipswich, Huddersfield, Sheff Wed, Boro etc for a largely pi$$ poor product.
JHRover Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Some of the pricing in the Championship beggars belief. £30+ at Ipswich, Huddersfield, Sheff Wed, Boro etc for a largely pi$$ poor product. There's going to be a lot of pressure building on Championship clubs to agree to some sort of cap on ticket prices in the wake of the Premier League's pledge. As things stand there are 4-5 Championship clubs charging away fans more than Premier League clubs can charge next season. If the self-styled 'best league in the world' are limiting away tickets at £30 per adult then it can't continue in the Championship for a far inferior product with the likes of Ipswich charging £32 for a Tuesday night to watch dross. More and more supporters have had enough of it and are stopping going. Wolves have only shifted 300 odd tickets for their game at Leeds tonight, I doubt Rovers will sell more than 400 for Forest, there are many others. Fans have had enough of Tuesday night long trips and £30 tickets to watch rubbish or meaningless fixtures. The League need to introduce a £25 cap on away tickets for the Championship which would be a sensible start compared to the Premier League's £30. The excuse from the league/clubs will be that the Premier League boys can afford it with tv money whilst Championship clubs can't and need ticket revenue.
Backroom DE. Posted April 19, 2016 Backroom Posted April 19, 2016 Paying a penny to watch the Ipswich match would have been too much. To coin an oft used phrase, you'd see better down at Pleasington - and I'm dead serious. Even the Ipswich fans were furious after the match, and they won.

Sorry off subject I know: PuneRover - cricket live on Sky this Friday, how about a 'Back Lambert or Cluck Off Venkys' banner?
JAL Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 My changes would be Raya for Steele Lowe for Bennett Ward for Duffy Evans for Gomez Mahoney for Jackson So team would be:- Raya Lowe Ward Hanley Kilgallon Mahoney Evans Lenihan Grimes Marshall Graham Bring Doyle on in the second half to make him debut Doyle Lenihan Maloney three lads that don't hurt the opposition throw in JLowe and Browny and your looking at needing a super duper goalkeeper to keep it at NIL !Rovers are a shambles that's looking downwards and not upwards. Just hope Irvine and Dunny are bright enough to turn down any offers to manage Rovers in the near future under this regime !
Gav Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 You said the same about Phil Jones JAL, give them a chance FFS,
AggyBlue Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I'll go for a close untidy game with Rovers just coming out on top. The youngster bringing in much needed energy and movement going forward. Time to hit the M6.
