Renewed mine and dad's just now. Total figure by the girl at the counter was 'went over 4000 yesterday'.

So if true that surely undermines the clubs claim that they are 'on course to match' last years total.

Its obvious that as expected sales have gone through the floor. They deserve everything they get. They've had chance after chance to change their ways and its still the same old story. Replace Cheston with Myers, Coyle with Bowyer and it could be 2014.

None existent board. Well meaning but powerless executives who from time to time say the right things but ultimately can't really say or do anything other than throw some bright ideas out in the hope people buy into them. Absent owners set to make it into their 3rd year without visiting or speaking. Bizarre recruitment strategy. Different manager in the dugout but business as usual with a high turnover of playing and coaching staff.

People have just about had enough of it and I don't blame any of them. As I said yesterday, I'll be renewing, but that will be at the last minute, but were Rovers not such a big part of my life I'd probably be questioning renewing myself this summer.

I'm just waiting for the usual claims of sub-10000 crowds are inevitable or natural and that we're merely on a natural cycle here. I'm afraid that isn't the case. We've had average crowds of more than 14,000 for the last 4 years in the Championship. That's 'our level' - a more than competitive number turning up to support the team every week, and if the people had any reason to look forward to the future, if they could see a plan, strategy, ambition then I'm sure we'd be there again next season.

The reason sales are dropping through the floor is because of 5 years of disgraceful behaviour and treatment of supporters, and the Lambert resignation and Coyle appointment have been the final straw. November's appointment of Lambert was their shot at redemption for many supporters. For once they had united the fanbase behind a universally popular managerial appointment. And they blew it, and I imagine that wasted opportunity has been the final straw for most. To then follow that up by appointing Coyle is just sticking two fingers up at those that complained about Lambert walking.

The club, Lancashire Telegraph and wider media will point to next seasons crowds and say Blackburn Rovers are a small club that can't compete in the Championship with poor support and use that as justification for continued downsizing, downscaling, reduced expectations and standards going forward.

I won't be lowering my expectations. I know what this club is capable of and where it should be and I don't accept for one minute the coming drop in attendances is in any way natural or unavoidable. Its entirely self inflicted.

O2G, Ben2000 etc; how does 4000 sold with a week to go before the claim your own seat deadline compare to the same point last year?

No point saying that 'sales have fallen through the floor' etc. before we know like for like sales.

I have to agree with this post, the real redemption chance they had was potting kean when we went down we could have bounced back up and moved on, the sheer incompetence that has followed is the reason people have walked away, I have got my ST for next season. But I can totally understand those that haven't

I'd have expected more than that Mike, probably 2000 more at least, still time yet though.

Part of me wants the place to be deserted come opening day, that in itself will be the strongest message yet sent by the fans, but equally I want the team to be successful and the fans to enjoy the football, thats equally as important to me

I think the Lambert appointment was the final chance they had. It was the first time since they bought the club that they had made an ambitious and logical managerial appointment that 90%+ of Rovers supporters agreed with and supported. It was the first time since they arrived that such a large proportion of the support was united in support of an appointment. It was a logical step. The ship had stabilised under Bowyer, who had done a good job over more than 2 years. They decided they wanted more than mid table/bottom half and efficiently went out and brought in the team to deliver that.

We all hoped that they had finally realised the importance of having a proper, experienced team in place, and that if they provided the right backing that the only way would be up.

And yet in the space of 6 months all that goodwill and positivity around the Lambert appointment had been wiped out.

There's no doubt in my mind that the deterioration in performances and results under Lambert was at least partly because Lambert was sick and fed up of being here, and knew he wasn't going to be staying. He knew after a matter of weeks that this club was destined to fail, and after weeks/months of trying privately and publicly to achieve the change he knew was necessary, he gave up knowing they weren't going to do it and knowing that no manager will be successful here because of it.

Now they've got another 'Mr Positive' to sit in the manager's seat who is grateful for another chance in England after failing miserably in his last 3 jobs. He's not going to complain, argue or set promotion as his target like Lambert did. Venkys are happy because they get no irritation from the manager and can continue whatever process it is they are running here.

I do have a touch of sympathy for the loyal staff at Rovers, along with some of the players, and clearly I want as many people turning up at Ewood as possible, but they are singlehandedly responsible for this situation and they deserve it.

They're getting more desperate now though. I've just received a text message from Rovers reminding me of the deadline next week.

Yup I had no intention of boycotting until they Lambert walk without a fight . Then appointing chimphead as well was the straw that broke my back.

Put it this way, without having any figures to hand Rovers fans are notorious for waiting until the last minute... even if the 4,000 figure is true, with a week to go there is still potential to shift a good few more based on previous purchasing habits.

We were given last years total of 10,059. Will it reach that again? Highly unlikely & 9,000 would be an achievement imo.

Just to add to the above...

The 10,059 figure for last season does not include half ST's (apologies I don't have those figures).

The previous season (2014/15) the club sold 10,901 full ST's and 481 half ST's, totalling 11,382.

2013/14 - 10,500 full ST's and 387 half ST's, totalling 10,887.

We've been wondering for a while just how long it would take for crowds to go back to 80's levels. Sadly this season might be it as we are probably looking at 7/9k home regulars, maybe less if they start selling off the silver. We might well end up with lower averages than Wigan and only better than Burton etc.

Mind you it gives them the perfect excuse to do so and some how this will end being the fans fault.

Good post

But the unanswered questions are. Why do Venkys carry on. And what is their game plan and long term goal.

This is the problem. Some will portray this decline as inevitable because 'that's how it was in the 80's'. Ignoring the fact that attendances in English football at all clubs are higher now than they were in the dark days of the 80s and that this club in particular has grown and prospered massively in the 20-30 years since.

The only reason we're even contemplating such a fall in our fanbase is because of 5 years of self sustained destruction which shows no sign of ending, not because its a fact of life or a natural process.

The club will pretend they did all they did but its 'really tough in this climate for a town team in the North West on the doorstep of Manchester and Liverpool blah blah blah. The media will lap it up as it suits their agenda of portraying Rovers as a poorly supported small club that belongs in League One. Its nonsense. There's only one reason and that's the owners.

If we behaved like a proper football club, like getting season tickets on sale in April rather than mid-June, then we might have a chance of improving and growing our fanbase like other clubs do. But everything at Rovers is in reverse cutback mode, so its only fitting the fanbase goes the same way.

I would be surprised if we end up selling more than 6,000 a lot of people have just had enough, some of Venkys some of the poor standard.

I guarantee it would almost double with promotion though and hopefully if the owners left as well
