Backroom Mike E Posted July 22, 2016 Backroom Posted July 22, 2016 Football support for me is not about playing staff. It's about choosing a team and sticking by it. After 24 years or whatever, I'm not prepared to change. I've respect for people who've decided they don't want to go, could you please show more respect for those who still want to support their club. Sorry JB, but gumboots is bottom of the list of disrespectful people on here.
mustard Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 No I dont. On me not answer it? I believe I've answered this before. I outlined my reasons and have done many times. Gumboots, do I have a tipping point? Probably not. But I guess it will depends on my future plans outside of work and whether I fall out of favour with football. Chaddy, what I am saying is, if you don't have an answer for my question, which was an open question to everyone, then why respond in the manner you did? You can simply ignore it, you know. "Surely you buy your season ticket because you support the team and club?" If that's not baiting I don't know what is. And I can't help but feel you're being rather disingenuous. You know what you said, how you meant it and you know I wasn't asking you for your reasons or whatever in my reply to you.

Gumboots, do I have a tipping point? Probably not. But I guess it will depends on my future plans outside of work and whether I fall out of favour with football. If I stop enjoying the games and social side of attending games that would probably be my tipping point. I hope you respect my points/opinion. of course I do. You are as entitled to your opinion as anyone is. As I said, I was just curious to know if you have a tipping point. For example would it be if they pulled down jacks StaTue and sold it for scrap? Where do you draw the line? You may not know yet. I didn't know till I got to the end of last season and even then they could have persuaded me. A good manager and some money spent, not loads but enough to make me feel they were trying to give us a fighting chance, and I might have put aside my concerns and renewed. They have given us Coyle and a load of loans and freebies. Apart from Graham I can't see what they've done to give anyone hope, and it's the lack of hope that has finished it for me.
ABBEY Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 So 7 weeks when coyle was rumoured Chaddy HAD a tipping point . Now chimp head is ruling the roost and weakening the side he has NO tipping point . So venkies can do whatever they want and fans like Chaddy won't do diddly squat .
Parsonblue Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I'm not renewing full stop, but for those who HAVE renewed, if Duffy and Marshall were sold and inadequately replaced, would any of you be sending it back? I know for many, it goes well beyond the XI on the field (even now), but I'd be interested to see if further sales and cuts would spark a backlash. No, in answer to your question mustard. When I renewed I did so in the knowledge that this would be a season of struggle - not the first time I've gone into a season thinking that avoiding relegation would be a bit of a result! It's a fair question though and I'm sure that the departure of Duffy and Marshall would put even more strain on a fragile fan base.
gumboots Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Sorry JB, but gumboots is bottom of the list of disrespectful people on here. Thanks for that Mike. I may have worded some things wrongly I don't mean to disrespect anyone. I'm just genuinely curious when people basically tell me to be quiet and support. I understand fully why you have renewed. It's a family thing as much as anything. I don't have my family here to go with so it's my choice and my choice only. If I did I might be looking at things differently

I didn't expect many/any replies saying people would tbh, as I am sure most have renewed in the same vain as you, aware we are in for a tough season. Will be interesting to see how people react to further sales (if they happen).

Similarly, without my dad around I suspect I'd still renew but would be by the skin of my teeth. With my dad wanting to go, it's the easiest decision in the world

Let me expand more please cos it did not come across as I meant it. so my apologises My point was you buy a season ticket in summer in full knowledge that a player or players who you rate might leave or be sold. But at the end of the day the players will be wearing Rovers shirt and I still get a buzz by attending games and seeing friends. of course I do. You are as entitled to your opinion as anyone is. Jack Walker's statue does need re painting tho. When I was renewing my season ticket I did noticed that the paint work was coming off.

If I did I might be looking at things differently Thing is I proper agree with your reasoning to leave, I just found it a bit disrespectful to think that it's being duped to stay! Also, I agree with Mike - GB is not someone who intentially winds up! I enjoy a good debate with you, I hope it didn't come off as dismissive
gumboots Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 It did but I'm big enough to live with it☺ as I hope you are if you feel I've disrespected you.
Mike Graham Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Good to see common sense and some respect has returned to this MB.
Hasta Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Stop letting Chaddy wind you up. If he doesn't have a tipping points and supports his team no matter what as he has stated, why would he have said if Coyle gets the job he wouldn't renew. Fair enough he changed his mind, which he is entitled to do, but he obviously must have a limit. Admitting it would damage his superfan image though.
gumboots Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 He doesn't wind me up. I have him on ignore. I calm myself before I read his posts. It works for me
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 22, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted July 22, 2016 making me the story yet again. why must I have a limit? Think he was helping you there tbh. In terms of a limit isn't it to what you would put up with before boycotting? That's how I read it anyhow....
Hasta Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 making me the story yet again. why must I have a limit? Because if you said you wouldn't renew if Coyle got the job that means you have a limit. Even though you changed your mind it shows that certain actions would result in you not getting a season ticket.
mustard Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Let me expand more please cos it did not come across as I meant it. so my apologises My point was you buy a season ticket in summer in full knowledge that a player or players who you rate might leave or be sold. But at the end of the day the players will be wearing Rovers shirt and I still get a buzz by attending games and seeing friends. Jack Walker's statue does need re painting tho. When I was renewing my season ticket I did noticed that the paint work was coming off. Thanks for the apology and for clearing that up, chaddy. I understand that, it was to see whether people might change their minds if the situation at the club worsens. I know you'll be there regardless and I respect that. I haven't been near the statue but I did make a comment the other day about the stands looking filthy and the gates dirty and rusting. Really a shame they can't keep Uncle Jack's statue in pristine condition at least. Precisely, it's all about opinions and differing viewpoints. Similarly, without my dad around I suspect I'd still renew but would be by the skin of my teeth. With my dad wanting to go, it's the easiest decision in the world I do often wonder what my dad would have thought of what's going on at Rovers. He passed not long before Venky's rolled into town, and I wonder whether he'd have stuck at it or not. He was a lover of football and I imagine he'd have been disillusioned with the state of the game in recent years, with all the corruption and dodgy ownership and whatnot.
BlueMonday Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I think the question we ALL need to ask ourselves, wether we are renewing, boycotting or taking the away day only option is; What are we doing to communicate our disatisfaction. I don't think there is anybody on this MB who can say Venkys are good for the the Club and are capable of taking us forward. So what ever choice we've made, we need to back it up with some form of protest. If your renewing tell them your renewing but have deep concerns. If your not renewing, tell them why your not renewing. But carrying on as you've always have really isn't acceptable any more, because the Club is going under.
Backroom Mike E Posted July 22, 2016 Backroom Posted July 22, 2016 Another niggle I have (this is a reflection on me and not intended to antagonise): I fear that if I don't go, I'll find something else to do. If that happens and I've lost interest when the club needs me as a fan (in admin or when Venkys go), then it's another lost fan. Once I've gone, I'm pretty sure I'd struggle to justify going back.

Sorry mike dont get this. If youre walking away (ie in protest ) youre doing it for a reason to see venkys outed ? So surely you come back after making such a stance ..? (all being well of course) Otherwise ..why walk away ??
gumboots Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I have said elsewhere that I wouldn't comeback as a ST holder anyway. Or not originally. Thats just a dact of life now. My circumstances arent the same and i dont want to be tied to a season ticket. I think venkys have so far spoilt the club that id need to build up trust in whoever was running the club too. But I'd be back. It doesn't matter what else you find to do, you'll still look for the Rovers score, still want them to win. You would come back. Perhaps not as you did before, but you'd be there

Look how many fans said they'd return when Kean was sacked and didn't.
