It is even stranger that even after we appoint an experienced manager, let him bring in 7 of his own players, and were only marginally better off (in fact as a result of his reign, you could actually claim we are now worse off) some fans are still unwilling to give Bowyer any credit for the job he did in extremely difficult circumstances.

He's had credit from me but he was taking us down, a change was needed. Rhodes would have been sold anyway and no way whilst he has holes in his ears would Bowyer have brought someone like Graham in to replace him. He'd as likely have gone with Brown up top and brought in another who he thought could do the no 10 role, those are what he liked signing but he could never get it to work with Rhodes.

Just where would we have been then ?

I will say this in his defence though that if they'd done the same thing and got us out of the embargo then given him a couple of million to spend on say 3 players he'd probably have done ok with that. For me part of them potting him was they knew he'd want money after the embargo because he'd proved he could spend it wisely but also proved he was useless with signing frees and promoting youth.

They just did not want to commit to spending on players and contracts as has been proved the case. They obviously liked the idea of loans pitched to them by Lambert so gambled whilst there was a few quid still coming in to cover it all.

A couple of years managing a National team ? You mean he had success against the Faroe Islands or similar once every three months?

Give me a break, if that's acceptable experience over 25 years of being involved in one of the most successful clubs!

If this was a John Williams choice, it would be greeted like a "master stroke".

Managing the egos of Giggs, Speed, Savage and Bellamy is no mean feat!

Next season is already about nothing more than surviving in the Championship, the best man to help us achieve that goal would be Neil Warnock, but he's probably not daft enough to work with an Indian business consultant controlled by an agency and bonkers owners.

Paul Lambert is a very experienced (Livingston, Wycombe, Colchester, Norwich and Villa) and relatively successful football manager who tried and failed to get anything out of the current crop of players, why? because in the main they're not good enough for the championship.

So why would anyone believe that a Warren Joyce type appointment would be anything other than another absolute disaster for Blackburn Rovers? Why?

Why do you keep ignoring the fact that Warnock has already stated he wants one more promotion on his CV - not another "keep up at any cost" job like Rotherham.

Lambert IMO underachieved at Rovers - he brought in over half a team of his own players - and they still all looked disinterested at times.

Regarding Joyce - any appointment is a gamble - some come off, some don't. Funnily enough the only appointment made under the Venky's that was a comparative success was the much maligned Bowyer - who kept us up, brought in some good players for peanuts and stabilised the club,

It is funny that he was much maligned for only stabilising the club - and yet now people are talking about Warnock to just survive in the Championship. So you are advocating bringing in an experienced manager to stabilise the club in the Championship - oh the irony.

Because we'd have gone down under Bowyer the way we were going! Next season is about avoiding relegation now!

IMO, the football we played under Lambert until those three successive games when we had men sent off, followed then by losing two strikers for the rest of the season was better than anything we saw under Bowyer. Bowyer brought in not 7, but nearer 37 of his own players and we were heading downwards at a rate of knots.

I'm glad you replied den as it saves me doing so.

Put someone like Lambert in charge when Bowyer was appointed and it's quite possible we wouldn't be as far in the mire as we are today.

Funny - I don't recollect Bowyer having a £20m transfer fund at his disposal as demanded by Lambert. In truth nobody knows what would have happened no matter who we had appointed.

I have always said that Lambert would have done well for us with a decent transfer kitty - doesn't mean he didn't under achieve in his short time with us. BTW - why is Lambert allowed a pre-season to improve things - and yet the manager being championed by many, managed to turn things around at Rotherham with no pre-season and arguably a worse squad ?

He may have signed them but how many of those would have have signed if he had money to spend?

He couldn't spend anything and wages had to be under £10,000 per player.

I very much doubt that Graham was on less than £10k - and it was reported at the time that we spent small fees on Bennett and Ward

If you recall correctly, the only time that season we were in the relegation zone, Bowyer had taken us there, so he only saved us from himself really! :rover:

Bowyer did fairly well in his first full season, underachieved in the second and was on his way to relegating us in the third. Short term he didn't have enough about him to get us into the top six, long term he was taking us down. I'd say he overachieved in terms of his experience level, but underachieved as far as the club's goals are concerned.

You know the manager search has become a farce when GB actually looks like a better alternative than most of the shortlist.

So - we stay in the Championship for another year, debts increase even more and crowds plummet due to Warnock's style of play + the owners.

There is every chance a bad appointment will take us to the unthinkable League 1.

Joyce is untried as a manager and it's a risk we should not be taking.

Squad needs a big buildup in numbers with little money.Someone needs to know where the lower league bargains are not how the latest 17 year old from Morocco will develop.

There will be bigger and far better squads than our's, someone will have to get the absolute maximum out of our squad every game.

That man sounds like Warnock to me, not a youth team coach.

Bowyer this....

Lambert that....

Take a look at the list of potential managers we're targeting above, just take a look at the cr@p we're supposedly going for, the dross we're arguing over

WE NEED THESE IDIOTS OUT OF THE FOOTBALL CLUB AND WE NEED THEM OUT NOW :angry2:

Thats where our focus should be, not arguing over cr@p managers that should be nowhere near this football club.

How credible? Because from what I heard and wrote on here on Tuesday, Joyce has committed to Rovers following a 3hr interview and is waiting to see if they'll give him what he wants in terms of finance and control. And I'm as sure as I can be regarding that...if you get me?

Ex-colleague of Joyce and still involved in the game at youth level.

I believe he's been offered it and will take it but wants to talk to Mourinho on his plans first.

Regarding Joyce , its plain obvious that any manager appointed will need a miracle to be able to work under the current regime and bring success.

His record with young players though is not something Venkys should be pinning their hopes on.

He is at Manchester United who can attract the creme da la creme in terms of youngsters, you cannot be anything but successul managing the young players at teams like united, city, chelsea, barcelona, real madrid etc.

Its kind of swapping a ferarri for a ford and expecting the ford to keep up.

Joyce does not have the experience in highlighting seasoned professionals nor does he have adequate experience to manage transfers or budgets.

This is not NASCAR where we should be appointing the hot rookie.

Respect is a big thing in this manager search ,potential players will look at the managers cv which if they are worth their salt will be a major point in their decision making process. For every Mark Hughes , there is 10 Brian Kidd's.

The Raos dont give a flying hoot what the supporters think, if we say left, they will turn right.

I do think a visit to india from a group of supporters /interested parties needs to happen sooner than later,

If the mountain wont come to man, then the man must go to the mountain

on that basis

i think the like's of Joyce , Slade , Jewell and Rosler are EXCELLENT managers and we should be really excited that one of them could be our next manager , the last thing i would want is someone like Nigel Pearson or Malky Mckay or Roberto Martinez .. somebody like that as manager .. i mean what could they possibly offer ????

DMTP, come on now...

How do you know Lambert asked for so much? Are you privy to this information?

Bowyer spent over £4mill, a lot more than Lambert had the luxury of doing so. GB inherited a squad with some quality players and had free reign to bring in and ship out who he pleased. Lambert was missing a host of these players who had been sold off and filled with hapless journeymen. Rhodes was then sold with no investment to replace him bar a loan signing.

There was/IS a lot of work needed to enable this squad to compete near the top and to say Lambert underperformed is to ignore what's gone on behind the scenes over the last few months, with no communication or clarity from his bosses and with senior figures at Ewood jumping ship.

The situations inherited by the two, whilst neither ideal, are chalk and cheese. Bowyer did well in his first few months but from then on his continued employment was a waste of our time and it has already proven costly.

I did mention Holloway or Rowett.

Look at the job Rowett has did at Birmingham and the funds he had there.

Look at how well Holloway did at Palace and Blackpool. achieved miracles at Blackpool.

I am fully aware of how many players we have on the books so I dont need to be told by you.

Perfectly reasonable post by Athlete. Stop playing the victim and picking fights.

Appointing Joyce represents a risk. He could turnout to be brilliant but equally he could be a flop. We just don't know how good or bad he will be.

I would say a club in our position would be looking to mitigate any form of risk. When you have the likes of Warnock interested then you should go and appoint him. He is experienced at this kind of situation and by appointing him you are mitigating the risk of going down to league 1.

. That's right Kammy,and

they have obviously gone for Warnock, but you can't give him the earth,he's stated 1 year only,Rovers need a 3 year manager contract,he lives in Cornwall, and probably wants the same hours that he had at Rotherham,Thusday-Saturday,that's no good for Rovers,we want someone 7 days a week to sort our club, yes he's a decent record but not the greatest,if you want Championship experience,Billy Davies has the best record, not the most liked guy,but a hell of a good record at this level,Warren Joyce is,like you say,a risk, most fans thinking what Kidd did or didn't,but you never know, plenty of clubs gambled,Reading,Southhampton,Swansea all went down that road and got promoted, whoever it is need to back him and hope it works out..

Utterly shambolic.

As they work their way through the long short list they are realising that nobody wants to work for them because they haven't a Scooby Doo. And the only senior manager at Rovers has taken his caravan to Filey for his holidays.

Meanwhile our league rivals leave us far behind planning for next season.

Thankfully Venkys have no intention of giving up control of Rovers and are fully committed to the Club, otherwise we'd be really screwed.
