As it been said many times on here every managerial appointment as an element if risk , even at massive clubs like Man Utd , who'd thought LVG after 2 years and £200m would not have improved them after Moyes left .. For me there is no perfect formula for a successful manager for every , played at the highest level and won everything domestically Kenny Dalglish there's a never kicked a ball professionally Jose Mourinho.... For every rule by fear aggressive bully Alex Ferguson there's the calm calculated Arsene Wenger ... One thing all those managers have is the respect of the players , which in my view is the single most critical qualification a successful manager needs

Gary Bowyer:

Genius with pennies - i consider his successes as; Cairney (500k), Gestede (200k), Steele (100k), Duffy (500k), Marshall (1million), Conway (150k), Akpan (Free), Taylor (Free)

Having a go at youth involvement, did he not give opportunities to Josh Morris, David Raya, Darragh Lennihan before being forced to sell O'Connell? Given Marcus Olsson was in the stiffs and a figure of ridicule you could include him and the 600k made. He also stuck with the previous ridiculed Duffy/Hanley centre combiantion which has excelled itself.

Negatives: - Needed an assistant who could guide him. If you had Warnock as DoF and Bowyer as head coach i'd be fine with that.

Panicked in the summer with Delfouneso, Guthrie (Thought he'd be good tbh).

Over the tripe like Ainsworth, Slade, Redfearn, Joyce i'd gladly take him back.

I thought like many others we could spend and lambert would take us to the next level, given we are back to below square one then he's got the credentials that we need more than anyone else.

Strange game. Some need to give there head a wobble.

Bowyer was pretty good at the off field side of management, but come matchdays he was just out of his depth, maybe if hed have had some quality experienced support staff like irvine and kelly beside him offering advice(instead of the jobs for the boys brigade) he'd have done better.

Bowyer with Irvine and Kelly. I'd gladly take right now and look forward next season.

Living in Hull and being an ex Hull City ST holder (under duress from my Father) I am one of the few people who have witnessed Joyce's management. He was unbelievable for Hull City as a player and player manager, taking over from Mark Hateley with the club well adrift at the bottom of division 3. With Joyce at the helm they miraculously avoided relegation against all odds. This season is remembered as the 'great escape' in these parts and from this lowest ebb in the clubs history, they have barely looked back since. I was really excited to hear he was linked with the rovers job as he is a legend in these parts. He created an amazing camaraderie and combined it with tactical nous. He has managed a club in dire straits before and is not just a coach! He has always done well in his career as player, manager, and youth coach. He is hard working and honest. I think he is worth a punt!

Its not a 50:50 risk though is it if you appoint a Mourinho or uniteds youth team manager.

Theres only one direction you are likely go, if you refuse to back experienced successful managers, and look to replace them with novices.

It's all conjecture mate. People accept and believe what they want to. We're all clamouring for an experienced guy..Warnock being most people's top guy but this man has more relegations on his CV than the rest of the list put together! However, we oversee that stat and concentrate on the positive because it suits...

Warren Joyce is REALLY well thought of at United. Literally not a single person Iv spoken to (old players, current players and staff) have a bad word about him. Reckon he's always been destined to be an awesome first team manager. Has turned their youth academy around and is progressive and entertaining. Has also won last 3 U21 league titles or something...but with this guy, we ignore his success. We ignore the fact he is a winner because we believe what we want to....we concentrate on the fact he hasn't got experience...

At United, he's not a youth team coach. He manages everything under the first team. Training programmes, preseason, player contracts, player recruitment, style of play, coaching staff...he's essentially their B Team manager....as were Enrique, Zidane, Ayestrian etc etc

I would personally go for Keith Hill.

Hahaha meowwww

FYI - Its you're not your

If he's "always been destined to be an awesome first team manager" I dont understand why has he not done it long before now instead of finally being talked about in those terms for the first time at age 52?

Bowyer ....good at the start .....@#/? in the end.... What came after was an experienced manger with a huge ego....mouthing off every 5 mins.....with owners who couldn't manage a pissss up in a brewery ....what us fans have been though is nothing short of disgraceful from all corners....even fans turning on other fans

Agreed with the last line!

We have some fantastic fans who follow us, sometimes the stories you read on here of people meeting up at games for a beer is lovely despite never meeting before!

Bit harsh, doesn't Mani do a lot near the training center work wise?

Before Nicko 11 oclock media, believe it or not he used to report very accurately on a number of trialists etc. Both him and Kamy get a bad bite on here but have consistently provided little bits which posters like me appreciate.

though personally  I found him to be such a dour boring man I couldn't even bare to listen to him during the periods that we where doing ok and was relieved to see him go tbh, i prefer managers that have charisma and natural aura of authority about them(souness, dalglish, allardyce, hughes all strong charasmatic personality types) i think managers like that breath confidence into those around them.

Hughes was suave in a Mancini way but as dull as anything audio wise. I even remember when Dickov did his shoulder mispronouncing "dislocated" as "discoloated".

Players like Hanley and Lowe still as of very recently refer to him, allot of coaching shortfalls can be nullified by squad unity and respect but if you had Irvine alongside you could have both....

Fans turning on other fans is just a downside of the digital age - we saw it with Allardyce even before Venky's were on the scene.

That is very harsh, I've not agreed with and taken issue with quite a bit of what mani has posted in the past but he always posts in articulate and good natured fashion and is as entitled to post as the next person.

In this particular instance mani was only relaying 3rd party opinion on Joyce which I find hard to reconcile with the fact he's yet to have his first substantive crack at management at age 52. Not a criticism of mani.

Can we add Bowyer to the poll?

For gods sake no. He's gone and he was gone for a reason and if he'd stayed and took us down we could be looking at a kean style scenario amongst the fans again.

All the GB lovers need to just take a breath and let it go just like us Rhodes lovers had to let Jordan go. Even Parson let it go and he was Gaz's chief cheerleader :)

I agree with you we should be challenging for promotion next season.

We are 4/5 weeks away from pre season and we dont have a manager. It is unacceptable that the owners havent made a decision yet. Had over 7 weeks to decide.

Promotion ? Ha .. Venkys Rock !

I'd bet good money that with Joyce in charge we'll be in or near the bottom 3 after the first 10 games.

Why bother taking a risk with Joyce? Might as well take a lesser risk with Irvine.

Warnock is my first choice but that bird seems to have flown.

Ah yes, the Bowyer fanboy who was calling for Lambert's head after a few months.

That would suit you down to the ground, wouldn't it?
