I don't disagree with much of what you say JHR. I agree that Bowyer is exactly the perfect fit for what the owners now seem to be looking for. Indeed, his sacking and then the subsequent way they treated Lambert is baffling to say the least. Developing youth whilst enjoying success on the pitch is almost impossible - I think the late 1950s/early 1960s was the last time the Rovers managed it for a few short seasons. However, I'm not convinced that is what the owners actually want. They seem to have settled for Championship football and anything outside a the bottom three finish will be regarded as success. If the object is to try to make the club self sufficient - which seems to be the aim, and a pretty futile one - then it will be history repeating itself - develop a few players, hopefully one stands out from the rest and then sell him - Simon Barker, Kevin Hird, John Bailey being examples from the late 70s/early 80s. You are right that no other club is thinking like this, but then, no other club is run like ours. The fact that the one remaining director - in charge of everything - decides to take a holiday at the most crucial point of year in terms of work to be done off the field tells you all you need to know about the club's admin and ambition. I don't think an established manager will take this job - hopefully I'm wrong - but of the names that have been mentioned, outside of the likes of Warnock and Davies, then Joyce seems more appealing with every name that's dredged up.

I too remain baffled as to why they got rid of Bowyer, unless concerned he was relegating us. The cost associated with dumping him and his team, then recruiting Lambert, only to lose him six months later, ranks alongside their more stupid actions.

Back to square one, time ebbing away, the club in turmoil, no-one any the wiser.

Sadly, Joyce does not sound at all appealing to me as I don't want relegating. Recognising the mess the club is still in, my hope is that they get someone with experience at this level as it looks a daunting job ahead even for someone practised.

Eddie Hitler at Reading has been relieved of his duties, another one that might be added to the long list and be interviewed to delay an appointment?

Well it's cheaper interviewing one potential manager per week for the price of a coffee than actually paying one ten grand a week to do the job. Look at the saving, always thinking that Mrs D, always thinking !

I wonder if this is down to political wrangling within the Rao family.

For instance one Rao talking the others into binning Bowyer for poor results and appointing an experienced manager. Then with Lamberts insistence on cash for the squad the other Rao's hold sway and force him out.

It might be why an appointment is taking so long, the family can't agree which way to jump.

If Warnock is definitely out of the running, why is he still the clear favourite with Sky Bet?

Joyce is now at 3/1

Its all guess work Mansfield, nobody knows is the only certainty.

Next season is already about nothing more than surviving in the Championship, the best man to help us achieve that goal would be Neil Warnock, but he's probably not daft enough to work with an Indian business consultant controlled by an agency and bonkers owners.

Paul Lambert is a very experienced (Livingston, Wycombe, Colchester, Norwich and Villa) and relatively successful football manager who tried and failed to get anything out of the current crop of players, why? because in the main they're not good enough for the championship.

So why would anyone believe that a Warren Joyce type appointment would be anything other than another absolute disaster for Blackburn Rovers? Why?

So then why would Warnock get more? cos he got a tune out of Rotherham, Lambert couldn't and he's experienced. I fancy Billy.Davies meself but I can't hide that this Joyce business sounds interesting to me.

Its Friday, nearly a Bank Holiday and the sun is shining. It's a glass half full day so I could perhaps find a crumb of comfort in speculating that Warnock may have been talked into the short-term, part time DoF role he's stated he covets, and that he rates Joyce hence has recommended him as someone he can mentor for a year or two, trust to do the coaching while he deals with recruitment, massaging the Raos' ego, TV commitments and match-day selection and tactics.

His protege might then step up when he's decided enough is enough.

Oh look, black clouds............

edit

just noted Leonardo made the same assumption...............

Brian McDermott has been potted by Reading.

Strikes me as a one-hit wonder- manager, but He's better than most on our list.

Having said all that Reading looked a rag-tag outfit at Ewood, and on a similar spiral to Rovers (Cut backs etc).

Very shocked by This sacking.

Didnt he sign a player this week?

Took over in December 2015. Won only 30% of his games (maybe Lambert's win record wasn't so bad after all).

Surprisingly a lot of Reading fans were unhappy with his appointment despite his previous success there.

I remember in January they signed a Polish player (Rakels?) which McDermott admitted wasn't his suggestion or player. Think they are after a head coach structure.

Will be interesting to see if they interview Warren Joyce or go for some random ex-player of theirs.

Jaap Stam linked with the move.

Jaap Stam is a highly rated coach and has been on Ajax's books for a number of years. Would be a good move for Reading imo.

I want this saga to end with us. I'd rather just know who the manager is, even if it's a disappointment at the time. With every day that goes by time is wasted that should be spent planning our season ahead. Lambert gave BRFC plenty of notice. We should have been the first club to announce its new manager and had the picking of the choice. Shambolic to say the least.
