And the leading question now is who is next. We are running out of players with any real value (and quality) so the bottom of the barrel will soon be scraped.

To be honest arbitro there are only three left - Marshall, Duffy and Evans. I'd be surprised if Marshall or Duffy are still here in September - although I hope I'm wrong.

Feeney on the back of today's LT about how the players won't be effected by Hanley's departure despite him being 'a leader on and off the pitch". Blah blah blah, really but the piece ends with "The lads wish him all the best and hope he does well for his new club".

Hope he does well for his new club?? This is a team we will face twice this season. I want him to bomb at his new club. Relegated and humiliated. Of course I wouldn't expect a pro to say this but his should not be hoping for success at another rival club. If Carlsberg did muppets they'd still be behind Venky Rovers!

Whilst I like Hanley and would rather have kept him, I think we got a very good price for him in normal circumstances if that money were to be reinvested in the team but I doubt it will happen.

I recall Cheston saying in the LT Q and A a while ago. that there was a 6m black hole to fill in the accounts this season.

Probably explains why we held out for the price we did but let our skipper leave without so much as a murmur.

What's going to fill the £6m black hole next season?

Wage reduction through Hanley's replacement might mean it's only a £3m black hole etc. And so the spiral continues :(

The analogy has been made before, but it's akin to re arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

On this trajectory we are heading towards oblivion! It's just a matter of time.

There will be replacements for Hanley as he wasn't the greatest player we've ever had. The problem is we won't get them. The barrel will be scraped once more.

Lowe in midfield and an equally poor player replacing Hanley is terrifying. Combine that with Coyle's record for attack over defence and our goal difference is going to be shocking next season.

Spurr at full back too! Or Henley. Why don't we just accept a relegation spot now.

Jordan Rhodes 9 mill plus 2 million add ons, Markus Olsson 600k was it plus add ons ? Now 1.2 million for the sell on of Rochina and 5 mill for Hanley.

Just how many times does this 6 million pound black hole need plugging ..........

I read that as Coyle having a go at Hanley's loyalty. He talks about Rovers having looked after him with new contracts but how on earth can Coyle have a go about loyalty when he walked out on Burnley. I also sense some frustration in his comments

I don't blame Hanley for wanting to leave for presumably more money and certainly greater opportunity and expectation.

Playing in front of 10k peed off Rovers fans or 40 / 50k hopeful Geordies under Benitez.

Coyle or Benitez?

Less money or more money?

Empty stadium or full stadium?

Zero chance of promotion or very good chance?

It's not his fault we are skint, or that operation dumb down is in full swing. A tad suprised Graham signed.

I wonder if it is a little bit of frustration from Coyle with Hanley and the owners. At first he was all about it being way off his valuations, mentions of Sissoko etc. Didn't we all get the impression he was after significantly more (or didn't want him to leave at all)? Then last couple of times it's been owner's valuation and accepted by the owners...

I just think Graham reached a stage in his career where he wanted to be loved and wanted to get back to playing regularly and scoring goals. He had a nightmare at Sunderland for 3 years, barely featured, never scored and became the subject of derision from supporters, he came here and in no time at all was playing every week and scoring goals. He knew that Rovers desperately wanted to keep him, that the fans would love him if he stayed, that he liked the club and the area and would be the 'star man' and would play every week.

I think we 'got lucky' in some respects because he had such a miserable time at Sunderland and such a good time whilst on loan here, that perhaps he followed his heart more than his head in coming here, and probably passed up the opportunity of more money and stronger promotion prospects elsewhere because he knew how things would be here.

Just my take on the situation.

Don't blame Hanley leaving to join Newcastle at all and good luck to him.. If a club the size of Newcastle with far more ambitions then Rovers, comes in for any of our players they will be off. Sad times really but that's how Venkys have destroyed our club.

I would think that is a very accurate assessment JHR
