JBiz Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I read the posts at the time and if you look, you'll probably find the same voice from me singing his praises. I'm not disputing that WE looked more defensively assured under Lambert towards the back end of 2015/16, but I am disputing that this is simply down to PL improving him. I think he may have benefitted from that experience of Lambert - added to his own maturity coming through as a player. Hanley started that season well, under GB - even if we (as a team) did not. Let's not airbrush that out of history either, our lack of goals (rhodes injury) was more costly than his love for beer. Hanley has been excellent all season IMO - so in a word KHOD yes. I've held him in high regard for some time, and it seems that's the issue - my suggestion to those who wanted rid last season is probably a bit arrogant after a re-read but I've just caught up with everything after 12 hours straight work... Head mash!

tomphil Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 With that in mind it looks inevitable that Duffy and Marshall follow him out of the exit door. In fact, once other clubs realise the score at Ewood, there'll be enquiries for anyone worth buying - not that there are many left. A few seem convinced Duffy will go with Celtic about to offer he'll probably start stamping his feet. His stocks high at the moment after the Euros despite him showing his true colours in that game he got sent off. Reading Newcastle fans comments it sounds like they'd have preferred him.
Dunnfc Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Cheers Grant. No one benefited him but himself. We are the same age rough enough and it does make you take stock. No hard feelings Grant, my Mrs held him in high regard...

And still there will be some who spout that Duffy and Marshall are no good. Just wait and see what rubbish we'll replace them with. First Division here we come

Head mash! I seem to think he was at fault for a few goals early last season but with Gaz's style we were wide open in midfield and putting balls down either side of big guys like Hanley and Duffy or running at them was always causing problems. Lambert just tightened it up In midfield and forced other teams to go long at times which resulted in meat and drink for our big guys. Therefore imo it really is down to Lambert, not for making him as he was a decent prospect in the past before he lost form but for giving him a better platform to shine last season. He's often looked decent for Scotland against better teams and I think Lambo's style was a bit like that hence why Jordan struggled in both.
AggyBlue Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 No hard feelings Grant, my Mrs held him in high regard... Umm, someone else likes setting themselves up

Bring it on once they're gone.

JBiz Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Oh well, there's literally nobody of value outside of Duffy and Marshall. Bring it on once they're gone. Football is ridiculous. If Mahoney has a cracking six months... He's English also, stick a zero on the end. With as much money sloshing around as there is, it's crazy. Really not getting into any GB debate on here, that's done. I've rated him for some time, always thought he was a good player whom I didnt want to leave. That's it, no need to go into "ickl Gary" or Lambert comparisons.

There is no debate I was describing why I thought he'd improved so much last season. Nowt as touchy as them Gazette's, please get over it there's a good lad

Nowt as touchy as them Gazette's, please get over it there's a good lad Took a second to see what you did there, but now I realise it was the "I told you so" element, I had no idea the post I was referring to (from 2015) was yours. I can't remember who said "I'd drive him t'ut Turf.".. But particularly irked me, since I remember it. In no way am I going to look back for the post either. I can wax lyrical about GB any day, did a tonne of good, a lot more than bad for this club despite the short sighted viewpoints of many here, time won't change that. That's last I'm saying on that as we've had many shed tears before As for GH, how big is Scott Whartons head?
Backroom Tom Posted July 20, 2016 Backroom Posted July 20, 2016 Good last season but never been a big fan, generic clogger and not much better than Ward. Sadly we will replace him with worse though and continue the decline.
tonyoz Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Remember that winner at Old Trafford? Oops! Looks like he was thinner then!
Iceman Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Remember that winner at Old Trafford? Oops! Looks like he was thinner then! Nope, the kit was just too big for him
mhead Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Good luck to Grant.....always been a true Rover. Just think what he has had to put up with during the last 6 years. The fortunes of him and Phil Jones are interesting and we will see how the next 5 years pan out. Meanwhile WE are League 1 bound, Barry 'dumper' Endean etc. can we find another legend like Tony Field? RTID

Good luck to the lad - hope he gets his chance to return to top flight football with Newcastle. Funny you should mention Tony Field, we were only talking about him the other day and then realised that in October it will be 45 years since we signed him from Southport! Where has the time gone?

MCMC1875 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Someone just told me Old Big Ed is off to Newcastle. Came from a mate of his apparently, according to MCMC. I thank you.
JBiz Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I thank you. I think (if you read this thread) it's evident that GH made his mind up before the season ended. Good luck to him. I certainly bare no grudge!

MCMC1875 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 To leave... ...I was saying to Newcastle specifically.
