[Archived] Twitter Trending - Protests

Recommended Posts

Last night we managed to get #VenkysOut trending nationally in the UK.

But we struck lucky. We started by needing approx 250 individual tweets (either tweets sent, retweets or quoted tweets), to break into the Trending List - but once we where on the list we ended up with over 18k individual tweets, which saw the #VenkysOut message attract attention from other football fans nationally in the UK, a newspaper article on the LET (http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/14528061._Destroying_our_club_____VenkysOut_trends_on_Twitter_as_Blackburn_Rovers_fans_make_themselves_heard/) and a newspaper article in India's second biggest business daily newspaper:

Does this have any effect on Venkys? We're not sure. But it has reignited a spark in the #VenkysOut campaign.

What we don't want to do is continue it now, as it'll fizzle out as people lose interest and the campaign won't ever have the same numbers again. #VenkysOut is no longer trending, so we've nothing to loose.

Moving forwards, I think we need to target Indian companies using the #VenkysOut hashtag. India is 4 and a 1/2 hours ahead of us, so to make a paper it would need to happen before 08:30 our time (assuming India operates the same 13:00 cut off time for the day afters papers like the UK). We've got @DNA, @TimesOfIndia and @GoalIndia who could be targeted - any other ideas?

Many people will say unplanned, spur of the moment protests are the best sort, however Blackpool fans have been successful in a timed approach targeting specific people/companies at specific times, spamming their time lines and articles for a set period of time. If its not picked up during the time frame, simply move on to the next target. They've had companies and celebrities back the #OystonOut campaign by using this technique - a campaign which is still all over the media. We've proved there is enough Rovers fans on Twitter to get a campaign seen.

A campaign between 07:30 and 08:30 isn't ideal for most of us, people tend to be busy getting ready for work/on the way for work - can people spare an hour in their morning routines? The alternative is attempt another evening campaign. Its probably too short notice to arrange tonight with specific targets, Thursday is England vs Portugal so theres no chance of breaking the top 10 during Thursday evening - which leaves Friday.

Seems like it has a bit of momentum at the moment maybe just keep it going. I'm not sure if you target a time how you would let everyone know outside of this board?

I'm getting the hang of it now I'm fine to send whenever.

I suggest just keep it going, tweet, retweet. It will eventually catch up with Indian time.

I haven't used twitter for awhile now - I closed my account down. But was talking to 'southern rover' who told me about the venkysout trending.

Thinks we should also target the FA also.

Many clubs with bad owners would say the fit and proper owners test is not fit for purpose. Supporters of these clubs, may give us support also.

Kamy wants a mass venkys out at 12:15pm today lets get tweeting

What is the reason for the 12.15pm

It this right for the FA?

Other than simply tweeting #venkysout how do I link it to Pune based companies? No idea with Twitter.

Include them by tweeting including their @.

Examples:

@punetech

@punestartup

@punePIBM

Kamy has tweeted that RockFM will be covering this in their news segments today.
