47er Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Only one premier team listed, other 3 are in our division. You are quite right of course, posted while watching tele! The more centre-backs we are interested in, the more I fear Hanley and/or Duffy will go. Only Hanley would fetch anything like 5M. All the moves are about transfers in, get us excited and buying ST's, then start the sales.

If we are lucky enough to have decent players, we've nothing other than decent wages to keep people here. We fed off clubs like ours for years.

All the moves are about transfers in, get us excited and buying ST's, then start the sales. Fully expect there to be at least one departure before start of season. Hanley would bring the most and I'd rather him stop but I can't see any departures from this squad having much impact. No longer do we have any stand out players that you'd think that'll hurt if he left. All the players I feel are at a level that we are plying our trade. Part and parcel of being a lower end championship side. If we are lucky enough to have decent players, we've nothing other than decent wages to keep people here. We fed off clubs like ours for years. Also the way that we survived for years and the way that FA want money to fed down the chain to grass roots. Shame the players and agents want an increased chunk of it.
Neal Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 No way Duffy will be here next season, they win this we should be asking same price as Hanley.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Too early to say that......he is prone to make an error you know.
Neal Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Too early to say that......he is prone to make an error you know. It is but the sheer fact he's playing at this level and given his age and size... What we'll be asking will be peanuts to prem clubs. Could even see Newcastle coming in.

Duffy will be close to £5m after the Euros 47er, he's got all the attributes to be a quality central defender, much the same as Dann has proven since he left here. In a better side with better coaches he'll make that next step, so £4/5m for me Duffy. Not aimed at you, but posters on this site have no idea what makes a decent center half, majority wrong about Dann and wrong about Duffy.
tugayislegend Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 We should be looking at zac clough, young promising forward.... we have too many ageing players...
The Rover of Finland Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 That Shane Duffy looks great. Get him.

JAL is a renown judge of a player, it would be interesting to get his take on Duffy's Euro 2016.

Neal Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Point proven You're in a minority Gav, worst centre half in a Rovers shirt since Darren Peacock... I couldn't care less how he's performed for Palace. Cardiff at home, think we got beat 4-1... Most embarrasing centre half performance i've see at Ewood for a long time. He was an absolute @#/? aswell, disgusting attitude. Scouse @#/?.

Dann spent most weeks covering from Hanleys terrible positional sense and our cr@p full backs! He's had a couple of storming seasons at Palace, winning player of the year and is on the brink of a £15m move to Everton. Those facts alone prove the point I made earlier, you'd not know a decent center half it was written down and explained to you. But its history now, we digress

That's a couple of million wiped off Dufy's value!

Duffy is a good player but for me following the ball far too much instead of marking his man. For me, He was at fault for the France second half cos he shouldn't have challenge Giroud for the ball but instead track Greizmann run. Also a stupid tackle for his sending off

You forgot Christian Dailly?
cesus Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I've always thought that whilst you would have to say Duffy does make too many mistakes to play at the very top level, he isn't half punished for every mistake he makes. Players do make plenty of mistakes in the Championship but I've never watched anybody else make mistakes and get punished so regularly!
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 26, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted June 26, 2016 Duffy is a good player but for me following the ball far too much instead of marking his man. For me, He was at fault for the France second half cos he shouldn't have challenge Giroud for the ball but instead track Greizmann run. Also a stupid tackle for his sending off I don't think it was a stupid tackle at all, he wasn't far off winning the ball, he was just beaten to it by someone much quicker than him. Not to mention one of the best players in the world! If it was dangerous then it would have been stupid I'll grant you. Ireland just came up short against a nation with some world class players in their ranks. No shame in that.

For me, He was at fault for the France second half cos he shouldn't have challenge Giroud for the ball but instead track Greizmann run. Also a stupid tackle for his sending off If he hadn't tracked Giroud, he'd have the choice of knocking it down like he did or bringing it down. He had to track Giroud, Keough was taken out by an excellent ball. The two central defenders were left exposed. Its too easy to say he should switch to Greizmann. Where was the cover? Give the French credit for a well worked goal. For the sending off, he had no option but to desperately lunge. If he is lucky he wins the ball and he's a hero. In this case he got it wrong but was sent off. Cynically he stopped a certain goal and thats why its a red card.

Scouse @#/?.Wind it in will you, only one coming across as four letter swear word is you, Dann was and is a good centre half, personal and stupid slurs don't hide that, @#?.Duffy blows hot and cold for me, thought he and Kilgannon should have played together more often as I don't really rate Hanley, but rather him than Wes Brown and his strangely ginger head and ailments. Core of a half decent squad being established but still a lot to do to raise expectations that we can challenge for the top six. Strangely our midfield seems the least of our worries for a change for me, one or two full backs, another centre half and no departures of significance would be a result IMO.
tomphil Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Typical Duffy in that game, immense first half when balls flying down the pipe and last ditch tackles in a crowded box. 2nd half he's all over the place with the positional sense of a drunk wasp. Don't blame him for the last ditch tackle though as nothing else he could do there. Like Hanley he's great in a tight defence but put balls down the side or inside of them on the deck and they can't cope, not unusual for big centre halves though.
