Building the team around loans is like building a new stadium on quicksand.

It's not a model that will reap success.

You're correct. The only thing I think we differ on is I think I see "why" this is, or has to happen where as you seem to be refusing to to accept the current scenario.

There's no secret to why we are here. I'm sure that (if it was possible to invest) PL would've stuck around.

Since 2013 we've hardly spent a penny on fees, and those we have will have been covered by outgoings. That's not going to change when the debt and revenue is where it is.

I'd love us to have a "sugar daddy" to come in a spend some real money... WISELY! (As last time we had some to invest it was thrown away at 30+ year old big contracts, 8m and 40k a week for a league one player and an absolute fortune on other no hopers).

It's not going to make promotion more likely, the current route but what choice do we have?

Blind acceptance and OTT fanfare of these signings is one extreme, writing off anyone on loan or a free as unambitious or pointless is the other extreme.

Looking at current business, I have to say I'm pleasantly suprised but that can change with outgoings.

Why don't we just call it a day? If we're looking at loans for those positions too we will own only a very few of our starting team. It really is not Blackburn Rovers any more

Of course it is. If you want to believe it isn't then fair enough but it's still Blackburn Rovers playing at Ewood Park, in blue & white and still the same club with it's proud history. Owners, officials, managers, players and supporters may come and go but the club is the one constant - through good times and bad. We are not the first club to have to fall back on the loan system and we won't be the last. Indeed, we've done it ourselves in the past.

You buy a load of players and some may or not be a success - then you're stuck with the duds on long term contracts, eg Chris Brown and a few others. There's no guarantee they will gel into a team either.

At least with loanees if they're no good you can send them back and there's a chance they will be half decent and want to make the move permanent eg, Danny Graham.

There's no "model for success" - signing any player is a gamble even if they cost £30m. Ask Man Utd and Chelsea.

Who's claiming Byrne has any quality if City are off loading ?

Why should any self respecting Rovers fan be taken for a ride in having to pay to watch somebody else's dross making up the numbers ?

They aren't unloading. They are loaning a young player out for first team experience. Huge difference.

Didn't think he was anything special when here on loan - but will give him a chance to show this new maturity to his game :tu:

Can't say I'm even the slightest bit excited by signing Feeney.

However, he did cause us problems in the 1-0 defeat last year and I remember thinking that he looked far better than I had expected from his short Rovers stint.

So, all we can do is wait and see.

I reckon I'd have caused our defence problems that day and I was still rough from Christmas Day!

Those thay are JUST knocking feeney, maybe try to focus more on the signings you do rate, graham a cracking deal, byrne and oakes could easily both be real good uns, hendrie cant be any worst than our recent fullbacks.

Feeney is like a lot of players with good pace. Coaches and managers get enticed with the pace and think they can work on the rest they arent to clever at and they can be the one that finally gets the best out of said player.

Not sure what the fuss is about either, I'd imagine he will be an impact sub in certain games/situations where pace can be a good weapon. cant see him being a regular starter unelss we have injuries

If Duffy leaves for a mere 2 million and then we bring in more loans... You could argue that its the definition of asset striping.

The same Duffy who we criticise for dropping major clangers, being out of position, gifting penalties, heading over when it's easier to score and costing us results?

Sounds good money to me.

The thing that makes me dubious about the loan system is: we've tried it in the past, when we had a decent squad core to rely upon, and it didn't work then.

We also saw that certain loans didn't have their hearts in it/ didn't improve themselves or us.

IMO we need permanent players who have an affinity, pride and uphold their responsibilities.

I know we all think we are football managers but Feeney was with us for a month last time round and barely played. As Iv said before I live around a lot of Bolton fans who take great pride in laughing at us whenever possible...I can honestly say not a single one has a bad word to say about Feeney. They REALLY rate him in fact and they're not backwards in coming forwards with their criticism of their players...they reckon he's been their best player by a country mile...maybe we should chill out and give this guy a chance?
