Anyone buying him?

Everton

But it's not really about posters on here not seeing a good central defender when they see one, it's about Duffy being let go for £2m, surely not, he's going to be a good un.

Agreed, for all his mistakes, Duffy is a warrior. Hopefully, he will sign a new deal. If he goes for £2 mil (because he is in the last year of contract)that will just highlight the lack of planning/management of not renewing his contract earlier. Same with Marshall. We are potentially going to lose 2 players for a fraction of their value - which is ridiculous given our lack of finances.

As the talk of incoming players has dried up, it would seem we will need a sale to get anyone else with a modicum of ability through the door.

Some of us can see that Duffy has all the attributes to be a quality center back, bit like Scott Dann, hammered on here by the clueless majority but probably on the road to bigger and better things.

£2m for Duffy is about £2m below his value.

£4m for a Championship player in the last 12months of his contract. Good luck with that Gav. He has many attributes, I agree. Unfortunately he only has a brain that works part-time hours.

Strange quote about the majority too. Majority opinions aren't always correct opinions. In fact, I see a hell of a lot of utter nonsense from the majority pack on here, but in terms of Dann, be honest - he was poor for us until we were and established Championship side (same vein as Hanley). He's done well since but he was underwhelming and average at best but anyone who loses a bollock scoring for Rovers, deserves a break.

Whilst we are on the topic of mass cluelessness though, and after sitting back for too long having to sift through way too much paranoia and nonsense, I'm in the mood for a chew at those with nothing but constant negativity, some relatively recent themes:

Some of 'us' said we can't pay more than 10k a week in wages. Whilst the minority disagreed.

Some of 'us' said Danny Graham would definitely go to Celtic (or anywhere but here). Whilst the minority disagreed.

Some of 'us' actually said Danny Graham was a poor player with an extremely poor goalscoring return, they'd dredge up pointless stats. He was just a very poor and cheap replacement. Whilst the minority disagreed.

Rhodes' goals cannot be replaced. We sell him, we definitely would go down. The minority disagreed.

Some of 'us' said Lambert was going to Celtic. Whilst the minority disagreed.

Some of 'us' predicted administration, week after week, for x amount of years. Whilst the minority disagreed.

Some of 'us' said no manager would touch us with a bargepole. Whilst the minority disagreed.

Some of 'us' like to re-write history and like to suddenly big up players that are frequently vilified on here because it suits the constant negativity agenda. Whilst the minority like to remember things as they actually were.

Some of 'us' see a major conspiracy in every single thing. Whilst the minority keep their heads and often disagree.

Some idiots are singling out Liam Feeney, ignoring what positives fans and managers far more recently qualified to pass judgement on a man who only made one start for Rovers and a handful of substitute appearances, have to say. Whilst the minority are willing to actually give the guy a chance.

Some of 'us' are now whining on that we are signing quality loan players. Whining that we are giving trials to experienced ex-title winning internationals. Whilst the minority lose the will to live.

I'm pleased to say, I'm not always right and don't claim to be, in fact I'm one of the few who doesn't care if I am wrong - but I'm certainly one of the minority who tries to think rationally and won't just buy this tiresome, perpetual negativity on here.

If he is in the final year of his contract it may be why the price is seen to be a little on the low side. Just wondering if anyone would have been looking at him if he hadn't gone to the euros?

I wasn't overly impressed with him last year to be fair.

Best ever post on here. 100% correct mate.

I think Duffy is the latest in a long line of Rovers players in recent years who you would like to see working under a proper coach for a year. He seems to have potential but makes far too many errors to be a top centre back. He might become a good player with the right guidance but hard to say now if he will so £2m is probably a fair fee.

Squad still threadbare, we must be 6 or 7 down on last season. Any injuries and we'll struggle. Sure I read somewhere there was no loan window this season.

Understand what your saying but in fairness we have signed 5 players.A lot of players won't be available yet as the selling or loaning club will want to bring in replacements first

What's fairness got to do with it?

You pick that out of my post.Just sick and tired of people expecting us to build a squad yesterday. As I said a lot of players won't be available until later in the window and we have signed 5 players already

Well that's a right little foot stamp Pedro, log off for a while, it's not compulsory to post if it's getting to you that much.

A fellow poster just PM'd a list of your quotes that very much contradict all those accretions, maybe for a bit of fun he'll post them later, who knows.

Good player that Scott Dann, but like I said last night, this is about Duffy and I didn't know he only had 1yr left, need to get him signed back up asap because £2m is a steal.

By the time the season kicks off, or at least by the time the window shuts, we need to have a squad of between 23 and 25 outfield players. That's what our rivals will have.

Any less than that would be madness.

As it stands we've got 17 outfield players. So providing there are no outgoings then we will need, in my opinion, at least another 5 or 6 additions. We certainly need another 2 forwards to compete with and support Graham and Stokes, we need another left back, a back up CB to replace Kilgallon, and an attacking central midfielder.

Adam Henley, Grant Hanley, Shane Duffy, Elliott Ward, Stephen Hendrie, Darragh Lenihan, Hope Akpan, Danny Guthrie, Ben Marshall, Corry Evans, Jason Lowe, Craig Conway, Jack Byrne, Liam Feeney, Elliott Bennett, Anthony Stokes and Danny Graham.

That isn't a squad. That is a capable starting 11 if everyone stays fit and free from suspension with cover in some areas. There are very few options there for when we get suspensions, injuries or fatigue, which will happen at some stage, and there are no option for making substitutions if chasing a game.

I'm not accepting Connor Mahoney or John O'Sullivan as recognised first team senior players. They could become that, if they develop/improve, but at this stage they aren't.

Its also sadly inevitable that at least one of Marshall, Hanley or Duffy will leave, and with no money being made available to replace them it will be extremely difficult to do so. But that's the path the owners want to take.

With our finances like they are, I dont think we can spread our budget thinner over 25 players. I'd rather spend it trying to get a 17 or 18 as strong as possible, then pad it out with the youth team. Then if we get lucky with injuries, we have the chance of a surprise season. Also gives us a chance of un earthing a gem in the youth setup who suddenly steps up. Stumbling upon a gem youngster we can sell for decent cash is our only hope of helping the finances really now

Newcastle have just spent £20m and thats just for starters, Villa are looking to do the same, that should be the top 2 places filled before a balls kicked.

Doesn't always work out that way I know, but I can't see past these 2.

There's nothing foot stampy about his post mate. Eloquent, thoughtful and an insight into the issues the real majority on here really face. As I said, imo the best post Iv ever read on here.
