I think Duffy is the latest in a long line of Rovers players in recent years who you would like to see working under a proper coach for a year. He seems to have potential but makes far too many errors to be a top centre back. He might become a good player with the right guidance but hard to say now if he will so £2m is probably a fair fee.

Personally i dont rate him from what ive seen.Hanley pulled his socks up last season and probably had his best season in a Rovers shirt and i think this masked just how poor Duffy was.

Even in the Euros his heading and positional sense was very wayward.

Just ironic how people are critical of the type of signings we are able to attract at the mo but are quite content with someone like Duffy who wouldnt have got a sniff at Rovers six seasons ago...

Mass cluelessness...

Cheston told everyone that there would be cutbacks... It's hardly clueless to expect us not to pay high wages...

I thought that ruled us out of getting Graham but it didn't, brilliant news (he's better than 'ok' Gav) but we don't know what he's on, just glad he's here. I never thought he was set for Celtic, (i'd expect if he had had a choice he would have gone but who knows) and I don't think a big majority said he was. I don't recall 'the majority' saying he was rubbish before he signed, though there were some understandable concerns about his goal record of the past few seasons (certainly not meaningless stats).

If I remember correctly there was no majority on Rhodes as there were many, many opinions (often restated a thousand times).

Some predicted administration... True but to my recollection just some, certainly not a clear majority.

Some thought no good manager would want to come to Rovers, many disagreed.

I could go on but I just think there may well be a majority here that look on most things with a negative eye, that's quite rational considering the last few years.

I'm not attacking you Pedro, sure you've done lots of excellent posts, just disagree with you and Mani here.

Pedro's post has a lot of problems in my view. Half or more of the points he made about being in the minority were not in the minority. And it reads more like 'look at me, even when you all disagreed with me I was right'.

I'm not sure about that but I am sure that I haven't seen a post with that many 'likes' in a long time.

I think McClarky has it right, with the right coaching he could well be plying his trade at a much higher level.

He's prone to mistakes, but he's only 24, and is fast gaining a reputation as not only a decent center back but a threat in the opposition box (Which isn't exactly true, but its been written and spoken about so many times since the France game its now becoming fact)

Time will tell, he needs offering a new contract if he only has 12 months left, but worryingly I've read nothing about contract talks?

So far, theres very little to be positive about.....

the club still has poor goalkeepers on its books!

poor full backs !

non existant midfield so maybe Corry Evans could be used to generate some transfer funds....oops my mistake!! it goes into other people's pockets!

there's only one decent wide player in Ben Marshall !

but the two new lads upfront along with the two centre backs are OK.

It's nowhere near enough to be successful and this is before they take the money out for any of the remaining positives.

If Duffy only has one year left then they was never looking to extend his contract unless there's nobody willing to take the big error riddled centre back on.

We will never know, but by the way Lambert chased Rhodes out the club, its fairly certain he was promised the Rhodes cash and he left because somebody changed their minds on that

Steele is only averaqe - but not poor - I think we have been spoilt for keepers over the pre-Venky era

Full backs - Lowe is ok, Marshall is excellent, new loan left back who knows. Does need some further numbers

Non-existent midfield and yet you then quote Evans as getting us a fee ? Evans and Lenihan are reasonable at this level - new lad on loan comes with big reputation.

Personally - we have no idea how things will pan out under Coyle, or how good or bad the new players will be - personally I will give them a chance before going on a downer. After all it is every supporters right to be optimistic at the start of the season - ask any Leicester fan that put a few quid on them to win the Premiership.

The standard of goal keeping drops off quite significantly when you leave the premier league.

Steele is no world beater, but he's fairly average at this level. We could do better, but we could also do worse

One of our youth players that had caught my eye last season was centre half Scot Warton but he so poor against a young Chelsea side that left huge doubts in my mind as to him being able to step up.

Lets think about it logically.

Our last accounts (March 2016) showed an annual loss of around £17 million (for the 2014-15 campaign), which was a decrease of about £24 million on the previous year.

It is only right to assume that that loss will continue to fall as the club continues to cut wages and running costs. For example they have since offloaded Rhodes' weekly salary.

On top of those cutbacks, the club has banked an estimated £20 million from the sales of Tom Cairney, Rudy Gestede, Josh King, Marcus Olsson and Jordan Rhodes, along with the sell on fee for Nzonzi.

Outgoings on players have been minimal - no more pay-offs, no real cash buys (Ward and Bennett were technically buys but Norwich and Bournemouth more than happy for us to take them off their hands).

So surely if those sums add up our next set of accounts should show us in profit. Unless I'm being too simplistic about things. £17 million loss and falling, £20 million pocketed. We should at the very least be around the break even point.

Coming up is the £8 million reduction in parachute money, but that ought not to be until next years accounts, as we were still receiving parachute money last season.

What certainly shouldn't happen is another significant increase in the debt. If that debt level rises after selling £20 million of assets then something is seriously wrong.

We had Robinson but many on here didn't know when we were well off. I for one regret letting him go not least for his experience and guidance on the field of play.

One fault maybe in them numbers is you are assuming all sales were paid up front in full, which is rarely the case in football these days. Id imagine most of them are in installments over a few seasons

True, but he was arguably the highest paid player at the club at the time and on a wage that wasn't viable in the championship.

He has also stabbed the rovers fans in the back since by becoming a dingle loving turd head as abbey would say :)

You are talking cash rather than P&L but debt wise that might be the right way to look at it.

Palace confirmed new goalie. We should be pushing a losn deal for McCarthy. He is PL standard but obviously not getting chances at Palace.

I'd enquire for either McCarthy or Speroni. Might even be able to buy one.

Squad still threadbare, we must be 6 or 7 down on last season. Any injuries and we'll struggle. Sure I read somewhere there was no loan window this season.

A lot more transfer business needs to be done so OC bigging things up is misplaced. IMO the squad will be a lot weaker than last season and we are nailed on favourites for relegation.
