Backroom DE. Posted July 1, 2016 Backroom Posted July 1, 2016 I'm pleased to say, I'm not always right and don't claim to be, in fact I'm one of the few who doesn't care if I am wrong - but I'm certainly one of the minority who tries to think rationally and won't just buy this tiresome, perpetual negativity on here. Appreciate the detailed post Pedro, some interesting points there. As far as the negativity goes, it may be tiresome, but it's unfortunately completely grounded in reality. We had similar posts at the beginning of last season, urging people on here to look on the bright side and predicting top 6 finishes (no exaggeration, check back to threads last year if you don't believe me!). Then the season started and unsurprisingly it was as bad as many of us feared. It is tedious to read and in my case write so negatively about Rovers, but I can't close my eyes and pretend the club isn't being destroyed. I've stopped posting so much lately because I'm tired of making the same point repeatedly and I feel as distant from the club now as I ever have, but I wouldn't blame anybody for posting in a negative fashion. The club is in an extremely bad situation which is only getting worse. It is what it is, but I do think people should be allowed to post their views (within reason) and not expect to be rounded upon if those views turn out to be wrong. One of the biggest issues on here is a constant desire from some to be proven right and the targeting of other posters' views to achieve that dubious goal. Anyway, transfers... Liam Feeney, yay.
Blue blood Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Steele is only averaqe - but not poor - I think we have been spoilt for keepers over the pre-Venky era Full backs - Lowe is ok, Marshall is excellent, new loan left back who knows. Does need some further numbers Non-existent midfield and yet you then quote Evans as getting us a fee ? Evans and Lenihan are reasonable at this level - new lad on loan comes with big reputation. Personally - we have no idea how things will pan out under Coyle, or how good or bad the new players will be - personally I will give them a chance before going on a downer. After all it is every supporters right to be optimistic at the start of the season - ask any Leicester fan that put a few quid on them to win the Premiership. Hmmm fine for you being optimistic about next season but I feel that's the best way to describe your assessment of the above players. Steele is poor - his kicking, positioning and control of the box all are suspect at best. He has the odd exceptional game, but a "steady eddie" he is not. Very often he is poor - even for championship level. Full backs - hmm I think Marshall is decent there but if he is played at full back that massively leaves us short in midfield. Other than Conway the rest of our wingers don't provide much threat at all, and this is where Marshall should be imo. That leaves us with Henley (frustratingly not fulfilling potential) Lowe (question marks over recovery and fitness) and Henry (question marks over whether good enough) - so not too sure we're sorted or comfortable at the back at all. Evans flatters to deceive imo. There is a good player in there, but I'm not sure it'll ever get out. Often invisible and not strong at any aspect of the game. Playing at the euros may get us a bit of a fee, but not sure that we'll get much - don't think we'll get back what we paid for him. Realistically we need either Evans or Akpan to step up to the next level - and with the right coaching one might - so wouldn't be my first order of business, as there is the potential answer in the squad. Besides the striker and full back positions still look horribly weak. Think there's still a lot of work to be done, and an injury to Graham and we're looking a lot worse off. Likewise any sales of our best players and we're also looking in a sticky situation.
Gav Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Need another 5-6 players in. 5 players at the bare minimum and a goalie. I read recently that Coyle has been blighted with hamstring injuries at most of the clubs he's been at, so a threadbare squad isn't a good idea if true.
roverandout Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Coyle sounds more and more like bowyer, someone grateful to be given a job

J*B Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 United have just released Lindegaard. Is he any better than Steele?
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 1, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted July 1, 2016 United have just released Lindegaard. Is he any better than Steele? Yes.
J*B Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Yes. Sorted, K-Hod if you can drop him a call i'll start the paperwork. Has anyone got 15 minutes spare to find us a new defender that can play both right back and left back?
J*B Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Sorted it, can anybody call Joey O'Brien's agent and see if he fancies it? Out of contract right back, formerly of West Ham. Just had a google, Big Sam's pestering so might be mission impossible. If so, someone call Ryan Taylor please.
USABlue Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Hey CHADDY, tell your mate NIXON to tell his mate COYLE to go buy TWATT. Cos I said so. Plant the seed anyway.see uf it gets anywhere, Not sure TWatt has the right agent though.
yeti-dog Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Coyle sounds more and more like bowyer, someone grateful to be given a job You know what, you could kick off an argument with yourself in a phonebox. Don't know where and how you've extrapolated that from. Unlike you I'm prepared to wait and see if he can surprise us. I see no Bowyer comparisons yet just someone who appears enthused and perhaps getting carried away a little with some of his comments.

Al Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 One fault maybe in them numbers is you are assuming all sales were paid up front in full, which is rarely the case in football these days. Id imagine most of them are in installments over a few seasons True, but he was arguably the highest paid player at the club at the time and on a wage that wasn't viable in the championship. He has also stabbed the rovers fans in the back since by becoming a dingle loving turd head as abbey would say Can you blame him after the way he was treated? I don't.
The Rover of Finland Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Is That QPR Korean the left back? There was one when they played PL and he was quite good.
Veevs Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Forgot our old junior hoillett was released...some interesting names in there (and lots of ex Rovers lol).
The Rover of Finland Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Forgot our old junior hoillett was released...some interesting names in there (and lots of ex Rovers lol).Hoilett could be a great player if stayed with us. Even though Kean was here the time was good for Junior.
Gav Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Forgot our old junior hoillett was released...some interesting names in there (and lots of ex Rovers lol). I was really irritated when Hoilett walked, but in heinsight the only thing I'd have signed whilst king rat was in charge would have been his death warrant. Ultimately his career went nowhere, but his bank balance went through the roof, nice one Junior
Amo Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 If it weren't for Keano, Hoilett would've never got his shot. Kid was going nowhere fast under Allardyce.
T J Hooker Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 lots of well known names in that list, most of them very much the wrong side of 30(but quite a few that would still definitely be worth trialling) Konchesky would be a good signing for a season if he's fit enough(he did play most of last season on loan at qpr) he'd offer us a very experienced option at left back as an alternative to the young hendrie.

Interesting you say that because Ryan Taylor has actually called Coyle about coming to Rovers. Dont be suprised if he comes on trial.NEWS! Rovers have offered a deal to Nick Powell. Don't ask how I know please, either believe me or don't.
