Oliver Rathbone released from Man Utd. He's Mick Rathbone's son - highly rated would be worth a punt.

I don't know why there is mention of Norwich's crowds in regards to Irvine going. Yes we know they are financially strong but that's because of the parachutes mainly. Irve isn't playing infront of these Rovers Fans he's sitting on the bench or standing with his hands in his pockets it's irrelevant as is the nice countryside which you can get virtually anywhere in England within 10 mins drive apart from London and Birmingham.

He's going there because Coyle and Blackburn Rovers haven't pushed the boat to keep him and he's got an offer from an ambitious club/manager who probably have no interference from the owner and aren't heavily influenced by various agents. That's probably it really.

Nonsense. 30k fans paying more for their ST's than 8k at Ewood. What's the more attractive proposition? Which one is favourite for the big league and which one is joint 4th favourite for relegation? More importantly in football, you go where you're wanted. Coyle no doubt wanted his own team in. Norwich no doubt approached Irvine. It's no biggie. Happens all the time - see Ryan Giggs, not Jose's man, therefore time to go.

For what it's worth, ie nothing, I'd have only employed Coyle (at gun point) - if he'd had kept Irvine and Kelly. I'm sure advice on signing Graham and the retained list will have come from those guys.

Cobblers even if they only got 10k they'd be favourites to go back up. Should we bend over and expect everyone at Blackburn Rovers to leave now if any club that gets more than 12k comes calling ?

Like I said crowds absolutely irrelevant in the Irvine case because the finance is there even it the crowd wasn't. Crowd might be a factor to players but hardly to a guy who does 90% of his job his job on the training ground.

We aren't talking conspiracies here just saying I'd imagine he'd have been more than happy to stay if he was really wanted, he wasn't so he's taken up the offer.

It's a shame it didn't work out for Best. His first season was curtailed by injury and when he did return to the fold he was poorly man-managed. Neil Warnock didn't have any problems with him at Rotherham and even got a few goals out of him.

I'd usually have taken you to task over those comments, but strangely my attention was diverted elsewhere Toppers :tu:

I live near the ground at Norwich and know more than my fair share of supporters (most peeps I work with), and know allot about the club....they took a big hit losing McNally at the end of the season, but financially they are very very strong and not just because of parachute payments, they made some good investments and are in the center of a growth area in the city, with a very very steady fan base, popular owners and some good director level management they are an ideal club for someone like Irvine. I would certainly not call them Rovers Fans, a few years back they organised protests and got what they wanted, they are lucky, the owner and directors actually listen to the fans and in many ways the locals can relate to them... because well they are locals at the end of the day.

I doubt that we'll have much say in the matter if Celtic come in for him.

Well Graham didnt go there when people were expecting him to

Was Brendan Rogers in the hot seat then? Genuine question, I can't remember.

Just a hunch but I think that a combination of Rogers, Champions League, the return of the Old Firm Derby and the unique pull Celtic has for Irish players would make it difficult for Rovers to keep Duffy if Rogers makes a move.

Champions league qualifier's they are not a great side and have failed to make the groups in last few seasons.

Oh come on Chaddy. If Celtic had wanted him, they'd have got him. They clearly opted to look elsewhere. You've tried to paint a picture that we are a more attractive proposition than Celtic and it is complete and utter folly. He wouldn't be a first-teamer there anyway. Celtic have just beaten off a number of clubs to sign Dembele from Fulham. Why didn't he come to Rovers?

Agree, dgs. If Celtic came in for Duffy with an attractive bid then I'm sure he'd be off.

Do Celtic even have money?

Not in proper Champions League yet. 2 qualify rounds 1st

They're a bit tight with their dough but they are very prudently run and should have £2m if Rogers wants Duffy and that's the fee that will get him.

We'll have agree to differ on this one but I hope you're right and that we have Duffy and Hanley at centre back come August.
