Re Sambo: The tattoo is some sort of song associated with the IRA. I cannot remember the details, but it's all there if you look it up. Basically he and Stokes are muppets who cheer on a terrorist group that have killed thousands and bullied and harassed many more because they're sh-t stained little fan boys who don't have the brains to see the horror of terrorism.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any tattoos with IRA song lyrics on him, and a Google search gives me no joy on that front either.

He does have a 'Free Derry' tattoo, which is essentially a portrait of a wall that is by the entrance to the estate he grew up on.

The difference between Stokes and McLean is a large one for me.

McLean grew up on the Creggan in Derry, a focal point of the Troubles and the scene of far too many senseless deaths. Stokes, on the other hand, comes from Dublin, an area largely untouched by the conflict. McLean may not wear a poppy, but he doesn't attend fundraisers for dissident Republican groups.

He's a staunch IRA supporter as well Kamy, not just sympathetic to the cause, but involved in 'events' as you say.

I was going to post this last week, but decided not to bother as it wasn't worth the hassle, so good luck with that one :tu:

So is McClean?

Either way should be judged on ability rather than beliefs.

Playing Devils Advocate, Tugay (among other ex Rovers) was caught on video singing "The Sash" many years ago. Now I have little doubt that he had no idea what the meaning of it was, but If we turn the clock back to then, would we have had folk insisting we tear up any deal to sign him because of his links to the Orange Order?

The poster above who wrote about it probably being more difficult to extricate himself fully from his upbringing was spot on.

McClean? have we signed him Dunnfc? if so same rules apply.

Try telling the victims of the various cowardly bombings that we should judge on ability rather than beliefs.

We can argue to point all day long and never agree.

Tell that to the British families who have lost loved ones.

Oldjamfan made a good point about Tugay singing The Sash. That song represents the Orange Order, who have long had links with Loyalist terrorist groups, even bearing the names of some of their members on their banners as they parade.

Whilst Tugay's link is indirect and not an issue for me, I'd hope fans expressing outrage at Stokes would do likewise for any player showing outward support for any of the Loyalist groups, purely for consistency's sake.

Main thing about this Stokes is the 3 year deal for a player with it to prove at this level. We know how this often works out, Goodwille, Best etc all well known pieces of work away from the pitch, all attitude problems and baggage and absolutely non would have got the deals they did anywhere except agent led Blackburn Rovers.

Worrying with all the connections and rumours flying about that history is well set to repeat itself just on a more watered down version. Forget morals they flew straight out of the window the min this lot walked through the door and brought their vermin in. We've been home to plenty waifs and strays since beyond doubt and only GBs steady hand briefly stopped it.

Sad thing is we need players and characters so we have to bite the bullet, that's what it's come to.

I was thinking that signing Stokes would be decent until Jim Wilkinson pointed out to me on Twitter his support of the IRA. Spent an hour or so doing some research and reading up on what he has said and done. Now am deeply uncomfortable about signing this chap, it is clear that he was/is a sympathiser and has even attended events. Sometimes you have to put football to one side and look at the wider context. Similar to how we would all feel if Rovers suddenly decided to sign an ISIS supporter.

This is not the type of people I want our club to be associated with. I am sure that others feel differently and that is fair enough.

Stokes isn't the 1St footballer to have republican sympathy but put yourself in the position of someone brought up in the troubles like mcclean for example you'd have a different outlook

Northern Ireland politics should have no bearing on football as most people over there Want peace and no dealing with any bigotry

it's more his personal life and connectivity to the criminal fraternity but get his head right and managed proper it's what he does on the field what counts

It wasn't me that did it, but I'd guess that it was because it was felt that loads of other posters would jump on it and start another argument. The likes of which we didn't want to see again really as they dominate threads etc.

OK but that doesn't really stack up does it.

People can permanently post Nicko's comments and now you cannot disagree with them or point out the inaccuracies because it may cause arguments.

Therefore who did remove it and why?

Can you not see that is basically vague nonsense. It's like going to a fortune teller.

Is this not removed too?

Tell that to the British families who have lost loved ones.

A lot of Irish families have lost loved ones over the years Abbey, Bloody Sunday for example.

It's not black and white. The Irish were appallingly treated by the British over the centuries. Just saying.

Don't really know enough about Stokes' views to comment but it's been a long time since the decency factor counted at our club.

Stokes. Brilliant.

Good friends with Glasgow gangster Barry Hughes, who acted as an 'advisor' in Ross McCormack's 11m move to Leeds without being a licensed football agent. Hughes demanded £250k for his role (whatever that was) and ended up walking away with £185k. Leeds United ended up being fined by the FA for breaching agents rules. Hughes has also been jailed for mortgage fraud and money laundering. Great company.

Great success so far in England. Failed at Sunderland (where the club imposed a ban on him going to a local night club), Sheffield United (played 12, scored 0), Palace (played 13, scored 1).

Thats before we get on to him being at IRA meetings on stage.

Some of you are excited by this guy? You think he'll make a difference? He's not even a step up from Chris Brown. How you can accept this mediocracy is beyond me, this football club is having its life sucked out by Venkys and you are buying into Owen @#/? Coyle's bravado and bullshit. Coyle has always been a good talker, he knows what to say - but the reality is Burnley or no Burnley he shat on them from a massive height and lost all his credibility in one swoop.

Keep buying your season tickets, keep funding it. Sit in your seat and complain about it.
