JHRover Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 A positive start to the incomings, but very much only a start. We're still well short on numbers. I know nothing about the lad from West Ham or the lad from City, and I doubt anyone on here knows enough about them to be able to herald them as good signings at this stage. They've clearly got potential but the last few Premier League youngsters on loan - Grimes, Barrow etc. - have hardly pulled up trees here and I'm always wary about loaning people who have never played at this level. By my reckoning Graham takes us up to 15 senior outfield players. If we get the lad from City and Liam Feeney then we're up to 17. Hendrie, Ward, Hanley, Duffy, Marshall, Henley, Lowe, Lenighan, Evans, Akpan, Guthrie, Conway, Bennett, Stokes, Graham But to navigate the minefield of a 46 game, 3 matches a week Championship schedule we're going to need 23-25.

gumboots Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Yes but you can't rely on not getting injuries, illness, loss of form and confidence. That's why, even if they don't play many games, you need 23
perthblue02 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 All the promoted sides last year had a core of around 17 players who played most weeks with the others just doing odd games here and there, but we do seem to have been a very injury prone club over the last few years (not even counting those mystery contract related injuries) and with the walking tuck shop possibly handing out goodies at training, best to be prepared lets make it at least 20 decent squad players
JAL Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 This is a serious question for all of you staying away this season. If we do well this season and are on the verge of going up, will you return? Definitely they deserve the support unfortunately though reality is we are back in Owen's fantasy make believe footballing world.....Feeney out !
SoldierMo Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Definitely they deserve the support unfortunately though reality is we are back in Owen's agency world..... Feeney out ! Haha calm down. Let feeney sign first lol
tomphil Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Owing to chronic lack of reinvestment and some poor foresight from the previous few managers we were desperate for strikers and forward options so something drastic just had to be done. Keep Hanley/Duffy/Marshall now and we could actually have a go this season. Flog them to pay for everything and service the debt as I expect and we just about have enough to stay out of bother depending on OC's tactics and injuries etc. Really genuinely hope this is the start of the long overdue rebuild and not just more window dressing.
Blue blood Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 All the promoted sides last year had a core of around 17 players who played most weeks with the others just doing odd games here and there, Others have stated that in part is due to them having few injuries/needing more in case of injuries. But also consider that those 17 were all of a certain guaranteed quality and could be relied on more often than not to perform. Our lot aren't. Just off the top of my head there's question marks over 2 of our new signings being able to step up, our goalies are unconvincing, Henley very hot and cold, Lowe has been out injured since forever, Akpan is either excellent or poor, and Evans often invisible. Not a set I'd want to count on that much and more squad members are needed as not all of these inconsistencies/unknowns will come good.n
booth Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I'd say we definitely need a new goalie, someone in midfield, a young striker to cover for injuries and if Hanley or Duffy goes a defender. Actually make that two defenders as we need a right back. Then a bit more strength in depth to cover any other injuries. Basically over half a team!
LewisF Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 New keeper, right back (Marshall and Lowe for cover if Marshall stays) new centre back even if Hanley and Duffy both stay, another left back, one/two more strikers, and a creative midfielder. And that's providing Marshall, Hanley and Duffy all stay!
dallydally Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Great news re Graham. If Byrne comes as well we are really cooking on gas. Just need to keep the likes of Hanley, Duffy and Marshall and add a few more. Well done Coyle. I am beginning to warm to the idea of renewing my season ticket

I think that's what Paul Lambert must've told them as well On the keeper thing I'm sure I saw Rob Greens name mentioned somewhere, never really rated him but better than Steele surely !

JBiz Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 If you think trying to remove the Venkyscum is boring then I actually feel sorry for you . As I said in the other thread where your "I want to @#/? stir " post is there is you who has done that behind the safety of a box . Cool .. Your mate just revs the anger with his pot stirring Sorry everyone else, I realise this is the transfer thread but unless the posts are removed I'm not just going to leave it. Maybe I should grow up and move on, be the bigger man, use the ignore function? Yes I probably should but as Stuart rightly points out the most active posters are impossible to block out. Plus, I'd rather not go down the road of sticking my fingers in my ears when I have an opinion. 1. Who blamed fans "like chaddy"? Answer you, that's the definition of @#/? stirring on a forum for fans. 2. This "behind a box" thing sums you up, always comes down to acting hard, look at me I'm a big man. I never blamed fans from behind the box, I shouted to make some noise. Hardly calling everyone venky lovers is it? 3. What do you think being reminded or challenged on every thread regarding Venkys does? Makes people joyous? Or angry? If you are going to remove this, I suggest you remove previous. Whilst I'd love to post about how happy we are to have DG, im sure it would be replied to with something venkyish so I'll leave it at that.
otto man Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 The very fact his son has you and many other hanging on to his every words makes me feel physically sick Really? Wow! what a sensitive little soul you must be Gav. Physically sick? Pfffft!

Glad you don't teach my kids.1. Ah sticking up for Chaddy .. How cute 2. I never act the big man , you've never met me you crackpot . 3. I don't give a toss what people think I'm to old and daft for that #venkysout 4. Why do you post and ask for it to be removed ? Weird behaviour is that .

It wasn't so many pages ago on this thread that Abbey brazenly said he has zero interest in transfers. Begs the question what is he doing here. I'd suggest he needs to focus his time on the Protest/Venky's out/ PuneLoons threads as he adds the sum toal of diddly squat in this thread! Having looked at the YouTube clips of Byrne I'd have to say I'm quietly excited.Yes we've been burnt there before (*cough* Villaneuva) but I like the fact he's just had a season in Holland where it seems he did well. Lots more still to do but at least we've hit the ground running this summer (which we obviously had to do having barely no squad left!)

Weird behaviour is that . Nothing to do with chaddy, it's this mentality that the fans are to blame - it's just cathartic anger based on nothing but your own lack of a solution, why bait other into it? What's my job got to do with anything? I don't know or remotely care what you do for a living. You said "behind a box" as if it makes a difference. You still haven't explained how shouting make some noise is blaming fans. I never asked for it to be removed but I am fully aware of how this is boring for everyone and I'd expect it to be removed. If the mods are just going to leave up posts of you talking smack then I'm not going to ignore it. I'm sick of it. It wasn't so many pages ago on this thread that Abbey brazenly said he has zero interest in transfers. AdamRochina Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Abbey seriousley you're like a big kid, we get it you have venkys but do you have to jump on every single God damn thread with VENKYSOUT.. just relax have a debate.. Talk about who we have signed.. Yes until venkys go it's never going to be rosey but can we just calm down and chit chat like fellow fans of the same club
Gav Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Really? Wow! what a sensitive little soul you must be Gav. Physically sick? Pfffft! Another one following the nobody that is Owen Coyles son I presume, its embarrassing.

I think Barrow would have been a star player had he not left early, put in spme excellent performances at the end of the season for his club from what i remember
AdamRochina Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I think Barrow would have been a star player had he not left early, put in spme excellent performances at the end of the season for his club from what i remember He just needed a proper run in the side to get up to speed and that.. He was brilliant for Swansea at the end your right
T J Hooker Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Another one following the nobody that is Owen Coyles son I presume, its embarrassing. He's no more of a "nobody" than me or you(or anybody else) the only difference is that when it comes to his dads dealings at rovers he's probably more in the know than anybody else online.
Backroom Tom Posted June 23, 2016 Backroom Posted June 23, 2016 And the fact Graham was announced a couple of hours after that makes stuff like that newsworthy rightly or wrongly
