Agreed actually. Hopefully that will come in the form of any future signings. When Bennett is the fastest, something needs doing :P

Unfortunately that something is going to come in the form of Feeney. Pacey players is where i'd actually like to see us spend some money, no matter how little the fee (not that we will). Desperately want to see us take a small gamble on someone from the lower leagues, someone quick, with no fear, willing to do the yards and prove themselves. Quite happy for them to be raw and rough around the edges but just something of a wildcard to give us a different dynamic.

Judging by the video (I know, I know), Bryneglwys might not be quick (no slouch) but he has speed of thought. Noticed he very rarely looks at the ball when he has it.

At the moment, we have a very tidy eleven:

Steele

Marshall, Hanley, Duffy, Hendre

Bennett, Evans, Lenihan, Conway

Graham, Stokes

Subs/Others:

Raya, Ward, Lowe, Henley, Akpan, Guthrie.

Ones to watch:

Mahoney, Tomlinson, Nyambe, Wharton, Doyle.

So we're light at left back and in the attacking department (midfield and up front). We need to see how signings go and if any of the youngsters step up, but the removal of deadwood leaves me cautiously optimistic of a reasonable season (midtable maybe?)

Add Byrne and Feeney in there and it is looking a bit stronger again.

That being said would be a problem to loose one of our CB's or Marshall hopefully Could can talk them into giving it a go he seems the type to be able to get players on side.

Feeney's got so much stick on here, but he's a decent reliable player and is adequate cover if any of our wingers miss a few games through injury, on a free it would be a solid signing.

Maybe he has pace, but he cant Feenish

He's a mercenary who's had more clubs than Tiger Woods, showed nothing in his last spell here. Only really got any good reviews the last part of last season probably because he's busting his arse for a contract somewhere.

I doubt he'd be coming as back up either but he's no better than what's already here and we are well covered in those positions. Time for a fresh approach with either a younger player or another interesting loanee not this spare part.

If we get Jack Byrne in then overall it would have been a very very good summer for us and I would be very optimistic. We need another striker to have a at least 3 in to rotate for when we get a lot of fixtures condensed.

There may be a few more players we need to sell as I don't think they are needed.

Guthrie, Apkan, O'Sullivan aren't essential in my eyes.

All i feel is missing is another midfielder (I would love to see Conor Hourihane as one of ours) with the striker and Jack Byrne.

If not we are almost there and we have a very very decent team coming together.

Provided we keep our best players i.e. Hanley, Duffy and Marshall. We need a firm stand on these guys but every player has his price so I suppose it depends what offers come along.

Dear Owen,

Still required:

Right Back (back up if Marshall is playing there, 1st choice if Marshall isn't)

Left back (back up if Hendrie is 1st choice, or 1st choice if Hendrie is back up)

Centre Back (Currently have 3 good CBs - Hanley, Duffy, Ward - need 4)

Winger (right or left footed - but quick)

Creative Number 10 (assuming Marshall is playing Right Back and we're already signing Bryne)

2x Strikers (1x Quick, 1x Uncomfortable)

I make it 7 still required to have a competitive squad.

I don't rate Coyle as a manager and I was actually dreading this summer but I have to say I would describe our transfer activity thus far as being excellent.

Not just the players signed but Graham and Stokes for free (yes I know there are no freebies) 1 highly rated loaner and potentially another one signing shortly.

All signed before we've even returned to pre season training.

I suspect we will brought crashing down to earth with signings like Feeney but judging on what's happened so far, I'm pleasantly surprised.

The only kicker is that I wish Lambert was the guy bringing them all here.

Hang on - Stokes hasn't ever cut it in England - 4 in 61 I think? - and this other kid hasn't ever played for West Ham, and whether through form or injury only managed a half dozen games for the mighty Southend last season (or Scunthorpe or some other giants.) Either way neither are proven at this level so to say they are excellent signings is a stretch at best.

If we look at Graham - and I accept he is an excellent signing - then that's the standard of an excellent signing; someone we know has performed well in this league/will perform well in this league. Stokes and Henry offer no guarantees of this, or much evidence to suggest they will do. I admit, I'm intrigued to see if the Stokes gamble pays off, but that's what it is, a gamble as it could fall flat on it's face just as much as it could work (4 in 61...)

Oh, and the fact that we're still short in our squad and this is remedial action means we can't be too pleased even if they were excellent signings. Looking at the squad Bowyer had at the end of his final full season with us and compare it to now, and even on that alone shows you how far we've fallen. At best we're still 2 strikers short, any sort of creative midfield influence, a bit thin defensively all of which still needs work on. And that's assuming Henry and Stokes come good. Excellent - no. Better than hoped - well as we have one quality signing I'd say yes to that, but it's far from rosy even with the current transfers.

I did post later on that i would not be getting carried away and that i would be waiting for the window to shut before judging our business overall.

In terms of it being excellent so far, it wasn't solely based around how i rated the players. Taking everything into account, timing of the arrivals (before pre-season) transfer fees spent (none, yes no one is free) etc.

Regarding Stokes, he wasn't a raging success in England but that was back in 2009. He's gone to Scotland and scored goals, he should have gained experience and matured as a player. He's a gamble but that's the market we are in.

The West Ham lad is highly rated, i am not saying he is excellent but he deserves a chance to show us what he can do in a Rovers shirt.

Goalkeeper imo. Did somebody mention Rob Green the other day ?

I will keep saying it but for right back.. I would not mind Bennett in there, he has played there and looked good during his Norwich days.. if anything he is actually better defensive wise when compared to Marshal.

Agree with the rest to a degree, but I would have a goalie in there, we lost Eastwood so need a third or we could be in trouble if Raya or Steele gets injured.

I would not be surprised though if we pick up Powell, he did well under Coyle before so might be worth a shout. Key for me is the loanie, Bryne or/and Roberts would be ace.

For me we need a good goalie as much as we need another striker.
