oldjamfan1 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Bookies do get it wrong on occasions but they are usually a fairly good guide and it is difficult to argue with that Sky Bet prediction.

Backroom DE. Posted July 18, 2016 Backroom Posted July 18, 2016 same odds that had Blackpool as favourites to go down and actually got promoted Burnley under Dyche when he got them first promote they were one of the favourites to go down. Also look at Leicester odds last season to win the leagues. Odds don't matter in this league but its actually winning games and putting points on the board If you can't see the difference between the teams you're talking about and our club in its current condition you are in for a huge disappointnent.
JHRover Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Sky Bet Odds as of 18/7/16 1. Newcastle United 2. Norwich City 3. Derby County 4. Aston Villa 5. Brighton & Hove Albion 6. Sheffield Wednesday 7. Wolverhampton Wanderers 8. Cardiff City 9. Reading 10. Queen's Park Rangers 11. Ipswich Town 12. Brentford 13. Wigan Athletic 14. Huddersfield 15. Bristol City 16. Fulham 17. Leeds United 18. Nottingham Forest 19. Birmingham City 20. Preston North End 21. Blackburn Rovers 22. Barnsley 23. Rotherham United 24. Burton Albion Shocked by the prediction? You don't really have to be a football expert to put this list together. The top six contain the 3 relegated clubs and the 3 clubs that missed out in the play offs last season. The bottom 3 contain 2 of the promoted clubs who are usually expected to struggle, and Rotherham who will always be the favourites for relegation. After that it is more or less a rehash of last season's league table. Top half containing Cardiff, QPR, Ipswich and Brentford, bottom half more or less the same teams from last season. The only 'surprises' in their prediction are Wolves (believed to be on the brink of a big money takeover), Birmingham (expected to struggle to replicate last season's success) and Wigan (expected to have momentum carrying them on from last season). We've just been chucked into the bottom half/mid table nonentity category along with the likes of Huddersfield, Leeds, Fulham, Forest etc. Not deemed good enough to push for promotion but not really tipped to go down, just weaker at the moment on paper than some of the others.

rog of the rovers Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Maybe a better question..... Would you take that position if offered now?
JBiz Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Maybe a better question..... Would you take that position if offered now? Survival would be an achievement of some sorts but not really. I still think we have enough quality to be top half. Thing is though, a few long term injuries could make 4th bottom a real do!
blueboy3333 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Maybe a better question..... Would you take that position if offered now? No. Player for player there isn't much difference between the teams from Wolves down. We've probably got better attacking options (1st eleven) than a lot of those teams. In Graham we've got one of the best strikers in the league. Coyle is the big unknown in all this. If he replicates what he had going on at Burnley we might surprise a few. No point raising the white flag yet.

When it's laid out like that, it just shows we haven't got a cat in hells chance of promotion.Alot of much better teams than us in the league this year. We are in for a rough season.

I'd have saved your money re Graham....
chaddyrovers Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Wolves have had a takeover and will be splashing the cash so I expect they'll do better than expected. I'd have saved your money re Graham.... No takeover yet at Wolves. Squad very short on number. Only 1 forward and no left wingers in squad. Is Jackett going or staying? Who knows. Local paper says Takeover confusion http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2016/07/18/takeover-confusion-as-wolves-land-in-ireland/

Do you know why? 80/1 on Graham seems worth a flutter.

Assuming some batnuts goings on at Fulham, Forrest and Leeds, plus either Preston or Brum are only a few injuries away from struggling, so there's plenty of competition still for those bottom 3 places still. (But less than last year - we're slowly slipping into the mire, even if it's unseen by the powers that be.) Shows we also totally blew our best chance of promotion under the 2 years of Bowyer.

JHRover Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Huddersfield closing in on 15,000 season ticket sales. Amazing what can be achieved at a 'small and unfashionable Championship club' when you've got a clued up chairman who wants to improve his club. Also shows that plummeting gates and 8,000 crowds are not inevitable if you conduct your business properly.
chaddyrovers Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Huddersfield have make some very good signings this summer. Dark horses for playoffs for me
BrisRover Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 They've signed Aaron Mooy on loan from Man City. A player i wanted to see come to Rovers. Will be very interested to see how he goes.

Key thing is continuity I guess, they've had some decent managers and players - sold a few and reinvested well. It's a long term thing though, for us to recover like that would take the correct decisions over a long period - a lucky promotion might bring a lot back though, I suppose that's the difference with growing your fanbase to re-enthusing your fan base.
