[Archived] England's Next Manager?

Recommended Posts

He's picked Rooney as captain, thats reason enough to call him into question, maybe you think Rooneys a good choice, maybe you don't really care, its just about results, but he had a chance to make his mark, put his stamp on things but he towed the party line.

Not exactly slagging him off speedie, just trying to talk over his first big decision, but it'd be easier nailing custard to the ceiling.

Bottom line I want England to in. I don't care how. I didn't feel too good after Iceland. If playing for free kicks and corners gets those victories then so be it.

I've no issues with Rooney being captain. He's played loads of games for England so knows how it operates. He's a stable hand, and with the dearth of quality players being produced it makes even more sense.

Most England squad's have a surprise in there. This one is Antonio. It's happened for years.

At international level results are all that matter, give me a tournament win playing hoof ball and id be over the moon.

I'd also say Jagielka is almost as big of a surprise, no idea what he's thinking with that selection.

Rooney has about 30 caps to many in my opinion, he's been very much hit and miss at Utd in recent times, and very much miss at International level throughout his entire career for me when it mattered.

I'm playing the ball not the man K-Hod, I've got a locker full of anti-Allardyce rhetoric, but I'm judging him on his England career in international week which is quite simply lost on you and a few others sadly.

Sacking him worked out well for us didn't it Gav ?

Totally lost on me tbh.

If you are playing the ball let Sams team at least kick one in a competitive match before judging.

If not doing it already watch the Cricket now!

Did you with coyle?

I'll judge Sam as England manager once I've seen us play a game or two under him. What he did at Rovers (or any other club for that matter) is history now.

Was coyles history not discussed on here before a ball was kicked

If they had appointed one of the real managers who wanted the job then it would have been different

Fact is we'd still be a Premier League club if he were still our manager - Venky's or not.

Your vindictive hatred of Allardyce defies common sense.

Your vindictive hatred of John Williams was even more baffling, at least I had a valid reason for Allardyce :tu:

What about England? are you happy with Rooney as captain and Jagielka being called up?

I don't think I did too much..............Regretfully!

Anyway I also don't think I would want to associate Sam with Coyle in a discussion on football management.

Why try and compare an Apple with a Turnip?

Who else could you see as captain material in the England squad?

I don't see anyone else.

Good question which none has tried to answer yet. Not ideal but I would stay with Rooney, his England career will be over soon enough and I suspect that Sam will phase him out.

England captaincy is a weird one. It's just symbolic. I wonder if any other country cares as much about who their national team captain is as us. We should have 11 captains in that team.

The Italian captain is the player with the highest number of caps. Thats it, no debate.

Frankly, couldn't care less who's captain, or in many ways how we play in the qualifying group as long as we qualify. Its results in major tournaments we need. There's hardly a manager in the country who couldn't qualify England from the group, so we are 2 years away from declaring if Sam is a hit or a failure IMO.

Let's see how it goes shall we? At least the over-rated Wilshere has been jettisoned, although I'm disappointed Barkley isn't in there. Don't understand your 1st sentence.

So do you believe the present attendance stats, also I think Gav may have been referring to the numbers who travelled away. I know I gave up long, expensive, away matches during Sam's tenure. It was Sam's way, I am not criticising him, I personally would just not pay for it!

No I don't believe the PRESENT attendances and no logic in assuming I do.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but I'm not happy with Wazza cheerfully announcing 2018 will be his last tournament, it sort of blackmails Sam into having a moral obligation to play him until then.

If I was Sam I'd announce in return "Hang on a minute matey, 2016 may well turn out to have been your last tournament - unless I decide otherwise!"

I doubt Sam does 'moral obligations' ^_^

Just read the last two or three pages. Gav you are genuinely funny. :)

Had me chuckling. Thought you loved that plank Hodgson? Even after helping relegate us?

You are right in some respects but way off in others.

Rovers were terrible away under Allardyce. Saved all our juice for home games. Bad for the travelling fan. Great for home season ticket holders. Like Rigger said, just Sams way of coping with little funds. Didn't sit perfectly with me either, but the bigger picture was...the bigger picture. Not sure you got that bit.

Rooney as captain? Pretty laughable in my view and a suprise pick by Sam, but in the abscence of choice Hart? Cahill? Kane? Not sure what he was meant to do.

Jaglieka is one of the fastest defenders we have. Chuffed he has been chosen. Highly rated within the game. Very quick defender. Getting on a bit. Trust Allardyce with defensive picks.

Sam will improve our mental strength and come up with a plan / identity. Will it make Smalling suddenly a world beater? Or Hart error free? Let's face it we have some poor players at that level ranked amongst our finest.

Nzonzi :)))))) go on Sam. What about Distin?

Big fan of Sam chuffed for him. A tad disappointed to date by events, but he may not wish to change too much too soon. Genuinely trust him to give us some effing pride back at least.

The major problem with SA that i can see, is his abilty to win games against the top opposition. If you look at his club career and esp at Rovers-he was excellent at beating the teams below us and around us, but how many times did we beat the bigger/beater teams.

So I can see him easily winning the qualifying group, then winning the group stage at the Wcup with say 7 points from 9, winning a scrapy 2nd round game before loosing in the 1/4 when we finally come up against decent opposition. Still, should be interesting to see anyway...

His ability to win games away from home must also be of concern and the fact he's never won anything as a manager in his career, have we ever had an England manager that's never won anything?

Allardyces aim every season in the premiership has always been 40 points, not qualifying for Europe, not winning cups, but 40 points. In no other profession would finishing 4th bottom be tolerated, but due to money, and money alone it's accepted in English football.

Allardyces issue at international level is his inability to coach a team to hold the football. His natural instinct is 'Get it into the box' and we all know that won't work at international level against the better teams. It'll work in the poor group we're in probably, but not in the World Cup.

I wish him well, I'd like nothing more than to win the World Cup, but his appointment is a backward step and doomed to failure sadly.
