Brilliant

I don't know whether you are sincere or sarcastic with this one.

The England job is part time. The boss should be a motivator. Shearer would fit that bill. He's still well known throughout England, understands international football, and has media experience outside of "the lads played well today" after a game. Clement or A.N. Other would coach.

You'd have to think that it's Southgate's to lose. Nice easy start against Malta for somebody. I'd certainly take Shearer over that plantpot anyway. Ever seen him run a drill?

Or maybe one of those undercover Telegraph trappers can make the step up?

I did wonder why he'd resigned.

A look at the league table would explain why Tony's left. SISU, the owners have gone all Oyston on the city banning the Coventry Telegraph from the press meetings after it had a front page saying something along the lines of 'for f--k's sake sell up and go'. The academy at the Alan Higgs centre may be bought up by Wasps, and then City will have to rent it. I think the council as well as the Alan Higgs Trust who run the site will have the final say about whether they sell up.

So Coventry City may end up with no ground (last idea was to buy the Coventry Rugby ground, the Butt's Arena. A stupid idea), no academy to produce young players to be poached for a pittance and owners who just will not leave.

Those are the real reasons, but it depends on his agent whether he'll get the England job.

This is why they, and Rovers and Blackpool, are doomed. I'm not sure if they are being vindictive, proud, or just arrogant enough to really believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

Why stay were you are not only not wanted but literally hated. Can't be good for your karma.

I think England FA want Wenger and he their 1st choice but IMO Southgate is their second choice.

Didn't Rangnick apply for a job here around the time Schuster applied for the manager's job?

I think you are right

Now Rangnick is now director of football at RB Leipzig

I think the job is Southgate's to lose. If we breeze through the next 2-3 games in qualifying, which we should do, and sit top of the group then there will be momentum to maintain and a position to keep and they will probably just task Southgate to carry on the good work rather than risk destabilising the squad and qualification campaign by appointing an outsider. Likewise Aidy Boothroyd has been promoted to take charge of the Under 21s and that job will probably be his to lose if Southgate gets the top job permanently.

Southgate will already be popular at Wembley having immediately confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be captain, which is what the men in suits want.

They'll be keen for him to succeed and get the job because he's their sort of manager. Someone like Allardyce or Capello are less flexible and more independent, strong minded individuals who follow a 'my way or the highway' approach and aren't afraid to speak their minds and upset members of the establishment. That's because they have track records of success to fall back on and won't be told how to do their jobs by people who know less than they do. There's no way Southgate would cause any trouble. All the while the FA get credit for entrusting the job to a supposedly bright and up and coming manager rather than going down the route of giving it to a 60 odd year old again.

I watched the rugby league at the weekend on the TV. It was fantastic.

Been watching Rugby League and Wigan RLFC for over twenty years now and will be setting off for the Grand Final shortly. It's a great game. Not without its problems but a great game nonetheless. I had Rovers and Wigan season tickets for a while but the rugby has gradually taken over.

It won't stop my love of Rovers, though, and a determination to play a part in getting rid of Venky's.

I've seen England play at the old Wembley but I don't get too worked up about the national team, although I want them to win when they play. Funnily enough, I have more interest in them now than when the 'old guard' were picked every game, i.e. Terry, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham etc. There's a freshness about them now and with the right manager (not Southgate, but you never know) in charge, they could be on the up.

Even by England's standards Southgate is a rotten choice. There's not much you have to do as an international manager apart from motivating and inspiring the team to go out and play and I can't imagine him doing either of those things.

Wenger has said he isnt interested in the England job.

For me, an Englishman should be in charge of the England team.

I think Southgate would be decent choice.

Pardew is decent option..

Howe is too young yet imo.

McClaren no thanks.

Hoddle is an option and has done the job before.

Redknapp no thanks.

So do we appoint Southgate and give him the job long term and back him even if he fails at the World cup.

Remember watching a TVs show on Southgate's foreign holiday home. They were buying a massive chandelier for above the hall and staircase. He came across as just another brain dead footballer with too much money for limited talent. I always thought of Delboy when they showed the light fitting.
