[Archived] England's Next Manager?

Recommended Posts

I hope Southgate does a good job obviously as I'm sick of being rubbish. I won't hold my breath and we're scraping a deep barrel for English managers now. Think it was last year in under 21s stuff it was very similar to euro 2016. We romped the qualifiers then when I watched a few of the tournament games under Southgate we were terrible and finished bottom of the group if memory serves. Could be the system that's wrong or we're producing bottlers on the big stage at both levels.

6-0 should be an absolute minimum vs Malta but I suspect even if we rag a 1-0 I suspect the job is southgates.

Interesting stat. Jonjo shelvey is the last player to play for England whilst playing for a club under an English manager (Gary monk) about a year ago. And even that was for a Welsh club. So god knows who was the last English player to play for an English club under an English manager was.

Well I didn't really bother to watch any of it, but the result shows how pants we are. We should be putting double that amount of goals past Malta. I know the lesser teams have improved over the last 20-30 years but that was pretty poor. From what little I saw Rooney was chuffing like some sort of diesel train shunting carriages around a yard. The spark has gone from him and only sentimentality keeps him in his position. He does work hard and tries, but his ability is nose diving.

Italy only beat Malta 1 nil in the Euro qualifyling for 2016 twice

These games against Malta are very pointless and boring for viewers to watch

The games not pointless to a very proud country of some 500 people, its not all about the England team chaddy.

At least a 3rd or half of these international are pointless/non competitive games. Boring to watch and not exciting games for People who attend

Wenger has said he isnt interested in the England job.

For me, an Englishman should be in charge of the England team.

I think Southgate would be decent choice.

Pardew is decent option..

Howe is too young yet imo.

McClaren no thanks.

Hoddle is an option and has done the job before.

Redknapp no thanks.

So do we appoint Southgate and give him the job long term and back him even if he fails at the World cup.

What has Southgate done in management to deem him worthy of the England job?

You could say that about most managers who have had the England job previously.

Southgate did win a tournement this summer. The Toulan tournement. First time in 20 years.

Like Ive said before that it should be Englishman that gets the job.

We had experience English manager like Hogdson or Foriegn expensive managers like Eriksson or Capello and we gone no further forward.

Southgate knows the FA system and the talent coming through.

Howe too young for it. Pardew has said he not ready for it.

Or do you some foriegn manager who doesnt know English football???

It was competitive game though i.e. a World cup qualifier and we got 3 points, so it was not pointless.

Wenger is the next England manager, Southgate is just keeping the seat warm

How are teams supposed to qualify for tournament finals? Let sky sports and Fifa / Uefa pick the best 24 every 4 years?

So games against football minnows are pointless? cough cough Iceland or should they not be allowed to compete on the same stage as England?

I think there should be a pre-qualifying group. Whilst the actual World Cup or European Championships is going on, the bottom 10 ranked countries on each continent should be playing their own tournament or league and only the winner should go through to the qualifying proper. It would stop this slew of boring, pointless, training session games but would allow the best of the bad bunch a chance to progress and improve.

A bit like cricket. There are technically 105 cricket playing nations but thank god the major countries don't have to go through the rigmarole of playing them in qualifying before every tournament. They have their own separate qualifying and the major countries only play the best few.

A bit like the AFC qualifiers for the world cup then, so applying that across the board lets go the full hog each confederation have the same number of teams in the final competition 4 each (ok Oceania would struggle so 5 from UEFA, 5 from Comenbol, 4 from Concaf, AFC, CAF and 2 from Oceania) .

Be pointless England playing any qualification games when there was possibly no chance of being in the final 5 from UEFA , fair?

Iceland got to the Euros.

Did Malta?

Maybe smaller/worst nations like San Marino, Malta, etc should play a tournement(about 12 nations) to see who the best teams are between them and a top 4 go into group sections with the better nations?

Did you attend chaddy? Can you say that it wasn't exciting for those who did?

It's pretty arrogant to assume that England should not have to play England's minnows. Maybe Iceland shouldn't have been allowed to play England either?

By that same logic, the FA Cup should be scrapped, or seeded.

I'll be honest with you, I'm not following your logic that Southgate is ready for the job and Eddie Howe isn't...

You do realise that this was the first time that Iceland have qualified for the finals of any major football tournament don't you, it was not that long ago they were ranked only 40 places higher than Malta currently are.

How do you think they improved? by only playing against teams ranked around the same in competitive games?

In your dreamworld of over hyped Premier League type world football they might never have improved.

Maybe the reason the game against Malta was not entertaining enough for you was the failure of the England team to put them to the sword, or maybe a team picked to appease sponsors was not they way to go. But I am sure it did Southgate no harm to be the next manager

Define viewers ? Did you go to Wembley ? Because your opinion is that if you don't attend the game you can't have a view or does your own rule not count for you ?

Or do you some foriegn manager who doesnt know English football???

Now I know my grammar and spelling ain't the best but give us a clue .
