I agree that we need an attacking midfielder but with no money to spend in the transfer window, maybe a couple of loans and possible 2 free transfers at best you arent going to get a quality attacking midfielder in. Thats why we should have got Adam Forshaw as part of the Rhodes when we sold him to Boro like I mention at the time

We need a midfield.

Yet again without proper investment we will never get pass ok standard. Not talking 10 mil but 3 or 4 million should be enough to bring the quality. But very unlikely to ever happen.

This is what i just don't understand, 3 or 4 million plus sensible contracts won't break the bank and shouldn't push us back into embargo yet it could make a massive difference. Especially when it is just reinvesting from sales and budget cuts yet they are happy to throw contracts at the likes of Brown, Greer etc. Might be short term but it's still wasting money that could be better spent.

Why ???

This is the thing. Nobody seriously expects them to spend £20 million a season on new players on Premier League money. I don't think anyone really expects them to spend on a level with the parachute money boys or the likes of Newcastle and Villa. Not even on the same level as Derby or Sheff Weds.

But when you've brought in the neck end of £40 million through sales in the space of just over 12 months it is absolute madness to reinvest none of it into a fresh crop of players. No other club has received so much money through sales and yet spent so little the other way.

God knows where our wage bill stands these days. With our squad and sales it really should be down towards the bottom end of the League yet I get the sneaky feeling it will still be up in mid-table or top-half. How galling would it be if we were paying bigger wages out than clubs like Birmingham and Huddersfield with the way they are performing this season?

Clubs like Brentford have it down to a fine art. They know they can't compete financially with most clubs in this league and know they are a conveyor belt for young players to improve before they are sold. Yet year on year they lose their better players and yet continue to perform admirably in this league through sensible reinvestment into good young players. They've lost people like Tarkowski and Grey to Burnley, Dallas to Leeds, now Hogan is the latest who will leave for big money. They won't try and mislead people though. They won't actively try to sell players, but know if a bigger and richer club does come knocking they are likely to lose players. Rather than mislead people and come out with all sorts of nonsense like we've seen here with fake contract negotiations and stunts in the media they just get on with it and bring in someone else who will do a job.

Actually. You look for bargains and players with less than 12 months on their contacts. Then fee not too much.

Like Alan Judge who I believe has 6 months on his contract at Brentford. I would be looking at him for sure if money there or look to sign permanent in the summer on a free.

Newcastle are after him so very unlikely to come here. But I was highlight the sort of player we should be looking at and his contract situation.

When does Gallagher leave?

Hes not.

Judge would maybe fit better into Coyles style of play so he might be worth a punt but with interest in him he'll be asking daft wages now probably.

Get the welcome mat out for Giles Barnes on a 2 year deal. It's coming.....

Gallagher is on loan until the end of the season, so long as Southampton don't want to pull the plug on it. However if a big money bid comes in for him or a better team want to take him on loan then there's nothing to stop that happening.

Emnes is here until January, I expect Swansea won't be bothered about keeping him, but again if someone else offers them money for him or a bigger chunk of his wages then he might not stay.

I really couldn't see Gallagher going by his own choice at the moment, everything he has come to this club for he is getting, 1st team action, goals and learning. If he was a centre half playing really well but the rest of the defence/ goalkeeper was letting him down then yes, but scoring goals and developing his game is actually being achieved here regardless of results.

Southampton must be quite happy with the development they are seeing in his game, as a loan player I don't think he needs to particularly worry about results for this club, nor does he have to worry about the owners and the madness that comes with them, just his own personal development. He runs the risk of playing less and in turn developing less by ending his loan here and going to a higher placed team in this league.

More win bonuses may just turn his head, unless he is unlike almost every other professional footballer out there and doesn't care too much about money.

Well that depends whether his head is tuned in to short or long term gains. Keep personally performing well here for the rest of the season being one of the first names on the team sheet or risk moving to a team further up the league and potentially not playing as much. In a nutshell do well this season and hopefully he will get a long deal (with lots of win bonuses) from next season be it at Southampton or another club.

Hopefully when Hoban is fit we can play him and Lenihan at Centre back with Evans and Mulgrew in centre midfield would be good imo. That would give us a solid midfield

Mulgrew in central midfield? The guy is miles better in defence, he has shown that plus he was miles better at Celtic at centre back.

Lenihan has done ok at times but we are conceding 3 a game and he is a constant. Certainly not undroppable and partly responsible for Readings winner.

For me Mulgrew and Hoban would be an excellent defence pairing with Williams on the Left and Nyambe on the right.

Right now under current circumstances I would start with

---------Steele---------

Nyambe---Mulgrew----Hoban (when fit)----Williams

---------Lowe-----Lenihan----------

Marshall-----Emnes-----------Conway

-------------Graham/Gallagher--------

Translation - I can't really refute that!

Mind you my issue would be you're asking for 3 injury prone players to be key men in the team. This to me is a tad optimistic - in fact I bet not one of the three plays the majority of the season.

Are we all pretending Emnes is an experienced left midfielder or left winger here? If we're forgetting everything logical I'll opt for Hoban on the right wing even if he is unfit.

I'll be honest, I thought that was his position at Swansea and Boro

I would be looking at bringing in Fulham midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe. Out of contract in the summer

He is box to box midfielder and would be deffo starter in my team if sign.

Light up Ewood last time we had him.

Giles will be signed and hailed a big signing by clownpants and the Partick mouth to justify the contract they give him %%%. I think it's nailed on as soon as they've got Marshall through the door. A freebie on say 10k pwk replacing someone on maybe 15k+ who goes out for a bit of a fee.

They'll be chomping at the bit for this and sad thing is he'll probably do more than Marshall in an attacking sense short term seeing as Bens mind left the building months ago. Long term though probably another injury prone plodder on the books :(

I remember seeing Giles Barnes a few times when he was young and thinking this guy can be awesome. Fast good dribbler decent shot and very direct but raw. When he was established he would drift in and out of games, mainly out and never really lived up to the promise, and that was 8 years ago. I dread to think what he's like now. It's a no from me. Whose his agent lol
