Rovers holding out for close to £2m for Marshall. The risk is it could go through too late to bring in any other players.

Isn't that the plan rather than the risk?

Coyle now flogging Marshall to anyone who'll listen.

He's done the full rounds on this transfer and he's now shifting the blame to Marshall and saying its better for everyone if he goes.

Classic bullplop from a classic bullplopper.

That's a professional and honest answer from a professional and honest manager in Paul Lambert. No messing about, no nonsense, it is what it is. Everyone knows he's interested in the player but he's not going to be messed about by anyone, and certainly not the cretins running Rovers, and isn't going to allow his current club to be held to ransom. That should finish off the laughable rumours that Rovers are going to get anywhere near £2 million for him.

Compare and contrast to the oaf managing Rovers who can't give a straight and sensible answer to even the most basic of questions without embarking on a five minute ramble that is impossible to make any sense out of.

Indeed it seems that Coyle is now onto the final stage of the Marshall out process. Increasingly desperate measures. Dropping him from the squad on the basis of a lack of commitment didn't do the trick as he's missed most of January and yet is still here drawing a wage, so now he's onto shifting the blame onto Marshall's shoulders and advertising his availability to all and sundry in the hope that someone will stump up the necessary dosh to tempt Venkys to sell.

Venkys probably still think they are going to get £2 million for him. That's how clueless they are and probably the reason Marshall is still here. The question is will they back down in the next 24 hours and in desperation accept Wolves' bid of £300k or so, or will they really keep hold of him and lose money?

Am I bothered? Not really. Whether Marshall stays or goes, we can be sure he won't be replaced adequately and whatever cash we get won't be reinvested.

To be fair, we can ask for what we want, he's our player and is currently still under contract. It is incredibly stupid of us but it's hardly disrespectful to Wolves.

Agreed. Lambert should stop whining. We're not here for Wolves, benefit  but from our point of view if Wolves were at any point offering anything around 1m we should have taken it.

In general we need to get rid of all the dross and players that don't want to be here like Marshall, Feeney, Lowe, Brown etc and give the youngsters like Raya, Wharton, Mahoney, Tomlinson etc an extended chance. They can hardly do worse than those who have been playing so far and and if we did go down playing a young side at least you've a chance of bouncing back stronger in the long term as opposed to persevering with a bunch of no hopers.

In theory I agree with you, but unfortunately we've got no chance of 'bouncing back' regardless of who we have on the pitch. Not with these owners and set up. If or when we go into League One it will matter not one jot whether we play the kids or go and spend £10 million on new quality players. If they persist with this structure it will end in failure.

Of course it would be good for their development and in theory good for BRFC if several of the U23s were given runs in the team. However it depends on what the motivation behind that is. If they are being put in the team because they are deemed ready to step up and perform and the club wants them to develop and perform for the betterment of BRFC then great, however if the motivation is that these lads might fetch a few million between them and there is pressure from above to play them purely so they can get games under their belt before being hawked around rival clubs to try and make a quick profit on them then I'd rather not.

Unfortunately I'm now suspicious of everything this club does and have little faith decisions are being made for the betterment of BRFC in the long run. Decisions appear to be made with only the short term in mind and with other issues taking priority over the football.

If we look at the fees we've had for the 'prized assets' in the last 18 months it's easy to see why Venkys are probably daft enough to expect a few million for Marshall.

If they signed him for £1 million as was rumoured under Bowyer 3.5 years ago they probably expect a profit on that (that was probably the only reason they sanctioned the deal in the first place). They are no doubt extremely reluctant to let him go for less than he was signed for.

Hanley for £6 million, Duffy for £4 million, Gestede for £6 million, Rhodes for £10 million, Cairney for £3 million - all nice healthy profits on 'Bowyers boys' just as Desai was promised when she got her chequebook out. Probably tough for them to take losing money on Marshall, but that's what happens when you refuse to offer him a new contract in time.

You never knows what's in these transfer deals that makes them ask for more than they should. Money still owed on him, add ons, a contract pay up that clicks in if he's sold by the club. Oh and the good old agents fees, don't forget the Rhodes deal nearly fell through because of that. Daft as it sounds it might be cheaper to let him go in summer rather than now unless they get a certain amount to cover everything.

Still think it's just bull to cover the fact they don't want to sign replacements though. He'll go 11th hour for about 500k with some add ons.

This is ridiculous.

for weeks we've all expected marshall to leave for around £250-£350k (rising to over a million with add one that will never happen) at the last minute.

this nonsense and back and forth is all a game and I'm sure we all expect that to happen.

they must think we are idiots.

Yes they do think we are idiots. If this was the first transfer 'saga' in years unfolding then perhaps people could give them the benefit of the doubt and believe that they were striving for the best deal for the club.

However we're way beyond that stage. We've seen it so many times over the years where it is dragged on and one before being done at the last minute meaning no funds are available for strengthening.

Even today Coyle has been attempting to win over fans to the project by claiming it will be in the best interests of all concerned if Marshall leaves and if he does then that frees up some money for arrivals (yeah right).

Its all so predictable now. The most ridiculous part of the whole thing is Coyle still claiming that they offered him a 'very, very good' contract to stay but he chose to turn it down. So Venkys are suddenly in the mood to start handing out improved contracts? Seems to contradict everything they have done in the last 2 years and is almost certainly a blatant lie from Coyle in an attempt to shelter his bosses from further criticism (unless he genuinely believes they made him a good offer to stay, which makes him more of an idiot than expected).

They'll find a way of contacting the elusive Venkys at 10pm tomorrow to ask if Wolves' £350k offer is acceptable, however won't find a way to get permission to sign even a couple of loans to help try and salvage the season.

PS anyone notice how two of Burton's January signings in Dyer and Christensen made outstanding contributions in their crucial win at QPR on Saturday? That's what can happen when you strengthen in January.

Personally I think we're quite correct to hold out for as much as we can for Marshall. It's only conjecture from Nixon that we wanted 2m and Wolves may never have offered the 1.3m figure that wasbeing bandied about, they may only ever have been offering a relatively nominal fee.

However Coyle has completely undermined our position now by saying its in everyone's best interests if he leaves. Honestly, if brains were dynamite................

In a normal world I'd agree. Players move for huge fees now - even at the end of their contract. The problem is every sale weakens us.
